you edited it out but there was a definite mix in ESO. Grinding mobs, killing bosses for the hidden quest xp, etc. SW:ToR was questing.

The place this dicussion is going is that when you have "hidden" quests in the world, people will just find them in beta and plan their grind route to match.

id be surprised if you could find a game in the last 3 years in which someone grinded to cap and made it there first.
Hmm. Teso was close. I know the first 50s all grinded and the early VR levels. Though it was better to skip questing and just do PoIs/anchors and dungeon grinding once you got like vr2-4+. Hell most did vr7/8 to vr10 via one dungeon , running it over and over as that was insanely fast compared to questing.

Only other game in last 3 years I can think of is FF:ARR and fate grinding was (Which is just killing monsters)faster then questing. I'd bet the first to cap there did that + story.

I think wildstar is the only one where you can't really grind your way to top in any kind of efficiency.Though I am not sure, I didn't really follow that aspect much.

i mean in recent memory you quested in wildstar, swtor, rift, TSW, neverwinter, tera, i dont follow WoW but i dont think people have been grinding mobs in expansions.

also i wouldnt call fates mob grinding. Your killing mobs over and over but your also completing a task over and over then being rewarded for it. half the fates in ffxiv were "escort mob from a to b", "kill big man A", type of stuff.

Level 45 fates were specifically not completed because they spawned infinite waves of mobs that everyone would just AE down.

Same thing with rifts in Rift, with xp/planarite in mind.

AE grinding in WoW for Cache Keys and Rep as part of the end game leveling process. Also certain PL spots in the Barrens cliffs area.

AE Grinding in Archeage for coin purses as part of the leveling process (as noted in my sig)

Ae Grinding in Neverwinter on player generated content, which would spawn waves and waves and waves of slow moving monsters.

AE Grinding in Wildstar definitely is a thing at certain locations. In the exile lvl 35 range there are very tightly packed groups of 5 cats with substantially lower hp, they drop leather and other amenities which at the time were quite valuable.

I believe each pack of 5 was like 2.5% of a level making it pretty decent leveling speed depending on player saturation.

I'm sure I can list more.

Same thing with rifts in Rift, ae farming for planarite etc.
same applies, rifts/fates arnt really a mob grinding spot more than a quest location. Its a fuzzy middle ground.

AE Grinding in Archeage for coin purses as part of the leveling process (as noted in my sig)
you plan on ae grinding to max level in archeage?

Ae Grinding in Neverwinter on player generated content, which would spawn waves and waves and waves of slow moving monsters.
lol, forgot about this but it was quickly considered an exploit and fixed in patches. Clearly against what was designed.

but again its a small part of what youll be doing to get to cap.

I plan on skipping all the quests aside from farm quests and gilda star rewards. If that counts as grinding to 50.

Justified by experiencing all the quests in Alpha/Beta.

i dont think youll make it in the first group of 50s without group questing.

A highly exploited level process trivalizing grinding fuzzy middle ground.

Back to your original point of hidden quests and beta research trivialization, I agree, it's a wasted effort. (If that's the point you were trying to make)

There are a couple games that got this right though, for instance, after grinding a certain amount of mobs you could go to a bounty hunter npc and claim a reward.

Also, Everquest with its CB/DF Belts and Gnoll teeth etc. Which were quite valuable.

PQ's/Fates/Rifts/Dynamic Events are just exploited at this stage of the genre

I could see grinding in archeage keeping up with questing, especially any kind of aoe grind. Mobs, iirc, were usually around 1/10th - 1/15th in exp of the quest reward(OAing everything) or so . Worst part is finding a good spot where questers are not hoarding spawns and spawns are plentiful enough.

Let's be real here we all know I'm going to be camping the banana docks for gilda stars day one.

Anyways, I was just offering an alternative point of view on popular games and not getting busted by the Grind MAXers

Carefully removed from the video, a modestly outlined window to the right side of the screen about halfway up filled with the following text

---------
Jindar's Bounty
Orcs 1/10

Atop the tower!
Seek out the old man at the top of the tower 0/1

A belt for winter
Bear Asses 3/8
-----------

If there was any desire to play an MMO again, this would be the only one I know about that would have me play. But like Cinge said, probably a solo MMO.

It looks pretty, but when the combat started...I got confused. It was almost hard to follow the action and what was happening.

I think I'm getting too old for this shit.

It looks gorgeous though.

More News:Daum to bring Black Desert next year to the western market | Black Desert Online

Yes, it's true.

Black Desert is coming much earlier than expected to the European and North American markets. Daum Games CEO Sean Hong announced on a press conference that their goal is to bring Black Desert to the western market in 2015! Brian Oh from Pearl Abyss also confirmed this to us today.

The reason why Daum is bringing the game to Europe and North America prematurely is probably because of the increased hype and positive feedback from the western community. Daum is actually a Korean publisher, but they decided to expand to the west because they couldn't find a suitable publisher in EU/NA for Black Desert. Since Daum is publishing the game in Korea as well, we can assume that Black Desert is going to be a Free-to-Play title, just as it is in Korea. Let's hope that Daum can meet the appointed day.
Color me skeptical. We'll see. Good news if true.
