Who knows. The devs have created their own client/engine from the ground up.

I don't know anything about this game other than what people randomly post here. On a totally seperate note I found some random fansite with an FAQ and saw this:

What's the maximum level a player can achieve?
There is no level capacity, but once a player reaches level 50 they may find it very difficult to gain additional levels.

How does the leveling work?
Rather than gaining experience points from quests like most MMORPGs, experience comes primarily from killing monsters. Quests give separate beneficial rewards.

Interesting? Maybe annoying. Probably stupid. If combat is fun to actually play, it might be ok. TERA almost did a pretty good job keeping me interested in grinding shitty mobs for an hour or two.

Well, the Sorceress gameplay looks very badass, though I have no idea the amount of keyboard gymnastics will be required to play as well as we see in the videos, or as well as Steparu played...but I'd be willing to try.

The games may have some major flaws but they are at least attempting to move the genre forward some. Unlike all the regurgitated shit we have been getting from developers here.

I haven't paid much attention, but move forward how? Graphics? Meh, least important part of MMOs. Or you mean combat? Cause that just looked like a lot of dodging/rolling and probably abilities that move you in a direction you specify.

Though like I said I haven't paid much attention but I haven't heard anything about some new exciting feature or mechanic, all you hear about this game is how good it looks and character creator.

Combat is huge. aa combat is dogshit.
I agree. I think combat is vastly more important then graphics. Thus why I asking for carlification from Kedwyn, about "moving the genre forward". As this just seems like pretty graphics and action style combat(with a lot more movement it seems) with the usual "fighting groups of enemies cause every attack is a AE". If its anything like Tera combat, I am all for it but not seeing the "moving forward" part.

This and EQ Next are about the only thing left to look forward to. The world is gorgeous, the combat looks fun. I'm still waiting for more info about grouping/raiding and loot etc.

I honestly don't mind old school grinding as long as I'm having fun. All that action combat makes it hard to chat with friends though.

I have really no idea about this game other than it looks pretty, has action combat, and has a lot of sandboxish elements. I think by moving forward he means doing something different. The only thing that can move the genre forward is some form of a dynamic world. A game that can make GW2 like events on the fly.

Well there is supposed to be mounted combat and parkour style stuff. The parkour stuff is new. Not sure about the mounted combat though.

Yeah, I enjoy mindless, old-school grinds here and there as well. However, games with combat systems like this make that a lot more difficult. It's tough playing Devil May Cry for the 5000th trash mob you have to kill.

I don't know enough about this game to say but my reference was more in what has come from that area of the world recently and how they have been pushing the envelope far more than what we have gotten from state side developers.

Tera being an obvious big one with its action combat and overall varied class design. Now there were flaws but there is a lot to like about certain components of the game despite the flaws. BAMS were pretty cool in concept if utilized poorly and there were some good excellent dungeons. After a certain point, if you stood in the red or didn't watch the mob's tell, you were dead. Easy if you pay attention, not so much if you don't. Gliding. Some cool things in here I want to see again done better.

AA has an excellent class system and excellent farmville. Something you don't really see much of anymore is a deep and varying class system. Most of the crap that has come out recently has been pretty bland and companies seem more focused on a small handful of classes as opposed to a much harder to balance open design like AA. Ship combat and the general idea of how things was supposed to work was also solid and not something you see in games developed here as its seen as risky. The risk reward was all jacked up and there were some major issues with PvP but there was a solid base there for a good game. More so than some of the other shit that has graced us like NWN, Wildstar or TESO.

GW2 had an interesting living world concept that ended up being poorly implemented but could be modified and changed to not suck and perhaps help change up the hub to hub questing we've been force fed since WoW. They also refined the siege game to the best I've seen since DAOC although the static map and resetting victory limited that enjoyment there was still a lot to like.

Anyway, when I compare some things from games like Aion, Tera, AA to what we got with NWN, Wildstar, Tera or even WoW I'm seeing far more things I like in those Asian games despite some ridiculous stupidity like the crafting grind. At least there are some different concepts coming out like action combat or a step back to more advanced classes with options and actual viable paths. Even sandbox elements starting to poke their head into games and its a refreshing change. Hopefully some of our games developed here take notice and start doing more than trying to copy WoW.

I don't think that AA had an excellent farmville. They just hadafarmville. I would of liked to see a more robust system, but overall it was pretty simple and limiting. AA's class system was good, but to me it really was a kind of more free-form RIFT class system. I think the best class system we've seen over the last 5 years is probably TESO and/or TSW.

Ship combat I agree is pretty awesome. I wish that the game that came out like 10 years ago was more like it. I can't remember the name.

Anyway, I agree basically with everything you said.

Yeah, the "next big thing" (as close as one can be now. I tend to think you're just going to see a myriad of niche games. Not unlike we're already seeing and like we've seen with kickstarter/indie stuff) in the MMO world will likely come out of Asia, simply because they are the only MMOs trying new concepts/reinventing old ones. Western MMOs tend to keep reiterating what we've been used to for over a decade.
