Game looks great. Can't wait.
Wait Draegan wants to play a quest hub, korean mmo that ends up with endless grinding and rng upgrading?

On a side note I really want to get a hold of this or find someone that has played extensively already. Since after graphics, people's only slightly good comments are on things like horse breeding and trade packs. After that all I hear about is endless grinding(Because there is no level cap, so you literally have to grind forever to stay competitive). And the grinding is not just levels, you need to continuously upgrade your gear(Which is RNG after a specific minimum), again no caps that I hear about and you have to keep up because gear is extremely important it seems(ie a +15 will completely destroy someone in say +10).

I really want to hear/test myself to see if the reviews of it being extremely hollow after cap are true.

Also hopefully, their cash shop doesn't have things for the upgrade system, or it will just turn into ArcheAge all over again.

Holy shit these streamers are bad players...
Yeah B&S had the same issue for most streams, in fact one of the few good streams was a korean pro gamer that won the 2014 pvp tournament and speaks broken english. He had 200+ ping and was still better than pretty much every other stream, it was kinda annoying.

From quickly going through BD streams, shit's the same, it's a lot of people mashing buttons and being terrible. Plus the current content is apparently all very easy since the game doesn't really start until 50(and not like typical mmo 50, since apparently getting to 50 takes less than a day). Game looks great though, graphics wise, but nothing new here. It also has a ton more classes than when I last checked(during korean beta). Not sure what the western version will launch with, but it's more than I expected.

Full list in korea atm is: Warrior, male only sword+shield or 2H sword melee, Valkyrie which is the female counterpart of the warrior but uses different skills like holy based attacks, Ranger which is female only archer, Sorcerer which is female only shadow based short range caster/monk-like hybrid, Giant which is male only large race brawler/barbarian type. That's basically the early cast, though Valkyrie was added a bit later. Then they added Tamer, a female only caster that can summon shadow beasts and then they apparently stopped doing gender locked classes and added Blader which is like a samurai type character, Wizard which is your traditional elementalist caster and Ninja which is well, a ninja and all of these can be played as female or male with the same skillset(though the names differ, like Wizard/Witch and Ninja/Kunoichi, not sure about bladers).

We're probably not getting all of these for our launch though, but it's a fair amount of classes being added.

To be fair the game is fucking confusing. I've been playing for just about an hour and I still don't know wtf is going on. They don't really explain anything and the same exact skill will kill one mob in a single hit and then take 50 hits to kill the next, it's weird. I have 8 skills and not one of them is consistent in any way and there aren't any damage numbers anywhere for me to find out what the fuck is going on. So, yeah, so far I run around and just mash shit and hope stuff dies, which is what I think most people are doing.

The game is sexy as hell to look at but so far the UI is absolute shit and the gameplay isn't anything to write home about. It was a lot more enjoyable watching videos and drooling over how great it looked than it has been actually playing.

It's odd to see a mmo push graphics so hard. Maybe Korean avg specs are high? Iirc the avg computer for US gamer is meh and would probably cry over this game if you don't turn everything down. I was watching someone play and every time he swung his sword I thought there was a big fireball explosion going on,could barely see what was going on.

After soft cap, it's all about PvP (specifically nodes and sieges). Everything else in this game is just kinda background noise. (There's also the titular desert, but when I ask my friend what's in the desert, he just says "sand." Guess there isn't really anything in there yet.)

Problem is, PvP has extremely tight restrictions on it unless you declare war with another guild (who has to declare war back). If you kill someone who has not declared war on you, you lose a ton of Karma, and I've heard that killing two people is enough to drop your Karma into the "bad zone." When your Karma is in the "bad zone," guards will beat the shit out of you, and when you die, your gems in your equipment have a chance to break, which is a huge deal because those gems provide significant stat boosts.

Also, grinding to get Karma back up is allegedly worse than reducing Infamy in ArcheAge.

Hmm weren't they doing away with that system or something? Can't remember. I dunno, if there is only guild vs guild to do besides endless grinding, doesn't seem like it would have much appeal.

I just wish there was more concrete info out there. I read all these things about them removing world bosses, making housing instanced, removing player-shops etc but can't find any evidence to back them up. Plus people are saying its doing bad in Korea(probably why its being rushed to NA/EU).

If you want PvE this is the wrong game, that's for sure. People like it for the PvP and the combat system. Not sure they're doing anything about Karma, but people are hoping that they do.

I think it's being rushed to NA/EU because Blade & Soul finally announced a launch date and they know that if Blade & Soul gets their audience, they're going to get wrecked in NA/EU.

I definitely recommend following my friend's Twitch (Twitch), if you catch him while streaming, he'll answer any questions you have. He's played KR, RU, and is playing NA Alpha right now.

Yeah , cant see going into the game without a good guild. As that seems to be the main content.

The most heinous thing is that guilds have to mutually declare war. What nonsense.

I've always said that I could ignore shitty quests if the combat is fun. The rest of the game is suspect but its probably fun for a few weeks.

Leveling is done fastest by grinding (In RU I've been skipping all quests except the Black Spirit quests which are the tutorials for the different game mechanics), so you don't have to do any quests while leveling, but quests do grant something called "contribution points" and while I don't know what they're for, they seem important.

When I tried this MMO any PvP fight outcome was determined by how many potions you have on you. PvP mechanics were very bad : stupid restrictions, nonsense karma (PK) and potion spam (no cooldown on health / mana potions). The game was very gorgeous and beautiful but everything else had awful design / bad implementation. What changed ?

I forgot : I you think potion spam is bad PvP wise, hear this : you can use potions while controlled, and they heal you more when you're being controlled :

Black Desert sounds a lot like Archeage : Beautiful graphics, PvP content is there but developers are idiots.

Archeage atleast had some interesting sandbox / FarmVille elements, and exploration was fun for a while. Haven't heard anything of this sort with black desert, so it sounds like outside the fun feel of combat it's going to be a very shallow game with shitty pvp

Have some abilities that block potion use for 10 seconds. Easy fix for pvp. Plus while it will be a pain in the ass it is no worse than having a healerbot buddy following you around and it will cause a monetary penalty for griefers. I have noticed that many asian games have that idea, every single thing has a cost.

Hmm I will have to see how it plays. It will certainly benefit the prepared player.

back when i followed this game it was totally a full sandbox mmo, literally all I heard was that it was sandbox, so not sure why you haven't heard about this, or if they changed the game design since they first announced it years back.

shit like player run silk road style trade routes, player cities/conquest/sieges, etc.
