With the advent of the internet it's really easy to say shit you would never say in person.
It's also really easy to find other stupid people who believe the same stupid shit you do, and therefore reinforces your belief that the stupid shit you believe is actually true.

Certain internet forums are filled with kind of thing. Not naming names though.

No it wasn't. The problem is the breadth and reach of communication. In decades and eras past information was hard to transmit, so it was buffered, digested, curated, and edited (real media), so most of what was out there mattered to someone. Now we have Twitter, so the entire population of the world is instantly privvy to what Average Joe thinks while he's taking a shit and we've somehow allowed ourselves to care about it.
But Joe Rogan told me that big media curation is mind control.

But why, why do people read a stupid far out there tweet, or someone offended at something completely normal, and care? There's not much fucks to be given in the real world, yet for some reason people read a stupid tweet and that becomes the baseline for what needs to be politically correct (not that it's called that anymore)
StupidTweeter001 becomes my mental model for "them".

I have family that is always telling me about these horrible right-wing extremists running around licking people in public to spread COVID for example. She's getting this from TikTok, and its a single story from early on in 2020... but she doesn't know or care about any of that. He represents "them" the enemy. There a legions of them you know...

Exactly. This kind of stuff is rampant across the entire socio-political specturm, and it's precisely the kind of thing no one would have heard about prior to the internet age because in no universe would the story have pased Walter Cronkite's lips.

Information is insanely consolidated in a way not seen since before the advent of the printing press. The internet might as well be a handful of apps to 90% of the population that are incredibly censored and curated to push only a specific ideology.

Websites like FoH are a relic of a bygone era.

FFS. There were 3 TV channels for 3 decades.
Yeah I wasnt talking about just tv. I said information, the entire spectrum of information distribution tv, magazines, newspapers etc. All of it has become incredibly consolidated in the past few decades all the while being replaced by a handful of internet apps.

You mean like the Hearst newspaper monopoly?
Yeah, I think Big P needs a history lesson about the Spanish-American War, McKinley, Hearst, etc.

We're certainly reliving a lot of mistakes from that era but it's not a new phenomenon. While there is a lot of consolidation at the top end of the most profitable media outlets, more people have a voice now than ever. Including a lot of really fucking stupid people.

Why are you like this? The only voice people have is when they speak the approved narrative, heres the best example;

The irony being the cdc itself said just a few months after that yes, cloth masks are indeed worthless.

If "censorship" really was as pervasive as you think it is, do you honestly think you'd even know about this? 100 years ago they sure as fuck didn't.

Censorship isnt about outright deleting information, its often just as much about shaping the narrative, establishing what the "truth" is and who is "truthful". For a special person like Rand its kind of hard to silence him altogether even if they wanted and that would have been true 100 years ago.

You on the otherhand? shadowbanned or just banned in short order.

I'm not naive to that fact, but the USA was different. At least for a while it was. Now it seems at least as bad as everywhere else.

Well in contemporary times, it's the elite who've fucked up and it's the masses who are saving humanity by waking up.

Ah the direction a thread about activision/blizzard goes. Sometimes this forum has a one track mind.

The question is whether Microsoft going to take the Blizzard label off of D4. OW2 is too close to launch before Bobby and the boys are out (2023). D4 isn't.

Kind of the elephant in the room and sadly prevalent in everything. Hard not to trace a problem back to it's source in a thorough discussion.

Sincerely,
Someone who ripped themselves away from continuing to go off about it earlier in the thread

If the Politics forum was a country it would be like Haiti but with more AIDS.

I bet Microsoft separates Blizzard and Activision into different brand "houses" under the overarching Xbox / Game Pass banner.

The classic Blizzard IPs will go back to being Blizzard IPs and not associated with Activision.

They may eliminate the Activision branding all together and move COD IP under the main Xbox banner.
