Can also recommend a level 1 run: It can be a fun mission by itself to min max a level 1 without spending souls on stats.

I would not recommend a SL1 run to a new player LOL, that is such an unreasonable difficulty for someone learning the game.

Can't wait for this. This is literally the only redeeming factor to having a PS4 right now

No code showed up for me either, think I tried all of them, even tried pressing the information button on all the videos in case that was a requirement, but nothing. Googled it though. Can confirm EU code works.

US Code: J4ND-DJNH-K3C7 (Available March 11)
EU Code: PBGA-HJNC-LQ99 (Available Now)
just redeemed the US code, its not a dynamic theme is it? I still like the free 20th anniversary theme more i think

I wish you could set up rows of games on the main dashboard

Interview with Jun Yoshino, the EU producer:
I liked the explanation of the combat now. The faster combat seen in trailers made it seem somewhat hack and slashy, as enemies seemed to die real fast too. Made wonder about how they would adjust the difficulty around that.

One of the things I've always enjoyed about FromSoftware's games are the areas that are most unfriendly to the player and really challenging, such as the Valley of Defilement from Demon's Souls. Are there any areas in Bloodborne that will be similar?

It's difficult to keep it spoiler free (laughs). Different people experience different parts of the game in their own way and that's what's so good about it. But, I think,in terms of unfriendliness and difficulty that people enjoyed in the Souls games, it's now a completely different dynamic in how you fight. The combat is a lot faster and doesn't rely on defence as before. So it's not a certain area within the game, it applies to everywhere. That's one bit that people can expect to feel straight away.

Using a shield seems to be a strategy that is out of the equation in Bloodborne. Considering this is a vital piece for many play styles in the Souls series how much can this affect the defensive style regarding its gameplay?

I would be lying, when I would say there are no shields, but even if there are, they might be crap (laughs). As for the standard setup, you have a melee weapon in your main hand and a gun in your offhand and that's the key difference now. I think some of the more experienced players will figure out straight away that the gun is like a weapon you can parry with. The fire of the gun is like a parry. It's not the main weapon; you don't have many bullets, so you have to use it wisely and sparingly. In terms of play style there is a lot to explore
Also nice to hear that he confirms that the world is open world. I liked the world structure of the Dark Souls games better than Demon Souls, with areas being connected. This time it is a mix with a hub area like the Nexus for leveling in its own instance (guessing the house seen in the first 14 minutes trailer), but everything else is one world.

EDIT: @Spronk
No, not dynamic. Just a different color background with a still image.

The big concern I have is what is the reason for doing the chalice dungeons if mobs don't drop items anymore. I know the dungeons are made with materials, with different combinations yielding different dungeons, so maybe you just get mats to make the other ones?

I just hope the implementation of the procedurally generated dungeons is solid and has enough mob and layout variety to keep it interesting after the 4th+ run. There wasn't anything mentioned about NG+ changes either which makes me a little nervous.

Regardless I have faith in From to make a great game and at least there is something for end game rather than just more NG+'s.

Kind of disappointed after 40 hrs only 6 weapons and 6 guns found. I understand there will be a lot of ways to upgrade based on styles of play but I hope they missed a lot of secrets or they just plain sucked overall because I loved the tons of weaps/armor ls even if I didnt use them all. Was still cool to have. Super excited regardless just hope im not disappointed

I'd care more if I'd used more than 1 or 2 weapons ever in any dark souls game, especially Dark Souls 2 where, as we demonstrated earlier, a lot of people just stuck with Drangleic sword and upgraded the shit out of it through most of the game.

I mean I'd love to see more weapon variety but its clearly not that important to the dev team.

It is kinda shitty though.

40 hrs if you're new to things (and they imply even being experienced they changed the formula up alot meaning experienced people might be slowed up) hasn't been very far into the Souls games...

I never understood why newer games seem to restrict character customization so much compared to older RPGs, other than it being easier to develop for of course. Not a fan of the streamlining of stats being hidden behind auto level ups and limits on gear slots, which is why it is odd From is doing this now, considering they have scaled up the items you could equip and use each time.

In the article, they try to justifying lack of weapons with "you won't miss items hidden in hard to find chests". That doesn't sound right to me as finding those chests adds the to fun of exploration.

Also seems that the dungeon generator is replacing NG+?

The Souls series is one of my all-time favorites, but of all the changes, removing items, chests and NG in favor of a repeatable instance with no item drops.... That's messing with some core mechanics that made me love the games to begin with. Exploring a dangerous world and finding hidden areas with hidden items and bosses. Can't think of a single series that has done "risk vs reward" better, and these changes seem to directly impact that.

Have no trouble fighting a boss dozens of times to cut off a tail for a unique weapon I might never use, but wouldn't even consider doing that if the tail only resulted in getting X more of a consumable item.

Still getting it day one, but that article lowered rather than raised my hype.

This isn't Dark Souls so I don't mind the changes. As a developer I'd imagine making the same game over and over would get old. If the next Dark Souls game is a big departure then I would get the complaints. I'd rather see them try new things with a new IP rather than just reskin their old game.

Fine with there being a smaller selection of weapons if it's a case of quality over quantity. DS2 had a ton of bad/useless weapons.

Do you gentlemen think this game would be enough to justify getting a PS4? I don't console game much, but I did have a PS3 and loved The Last of Us. Maybe with Bloodborne and the new Drake game on the horizon I should just bite the bullet?

If you love From Software games I don't see why you wouldn't want to buy a PS4 for it.

For the weapon stuff, I'm not too worried since each weapon is really 2 weapons. I'm stoked to use the hammer/sword combo. Big powerful weapons have always been my jam in Demon/Dark Souls. I do wonder if slow swings will be bad news with how fast everything is with no blocking, but we'll see.

Not sure if one game alone would justify it for me, but it's a very nice console imo. Have had a lot of fun with resogun, dragon age, Diablo, and playing the 2-4 free games a month on psn. This game is icing on the cake to me at this point. There are a few other games on the horizon too I'm looking forward to, like project cars, gran turismo, disgaea 5.

If all the weapons in the game are actually viable I'm perfectly happy with less weapons. There are way too many junk weapons in the previous souls games especially the "Boss Soul" Weapons are particularly worthless.

True, and while I can get on board with less weapons, what about armor?

It is the mention of less chests and hidden loot that has me concerned. Just wondering if the entire game is more streamlined now. But, as others mentioned, this is a new IP, not Dark Souls 3. Changes and differences are to be expected.

Just added the funds and pre-ordered, so will play it on launch. A few days off for easter on the week after it, so that fits well, especially since I believe Pillars of Eternity release the same week. That's a lot of RPG goodness at once.
