Much like myself everyone on my friends list on Steam is playing Claptrap... hah
Hearing the wife playing him, definitely the most amusing character dialogue by far. But that's not really a character power thing.

That's been every BL game though.
No this one is worse. The areas are pretty sparse and you have to drive through what feels like a maze just to find the checkpoint. It is pretty annoying and is what made me turn it off last night after driving around looking for the path to get to my checkpoint.

There is admittedly a LOT more Mario Skillz to this one. They fully embrace the three dimensional nature of low gravity plus Oz kit jetpacking. I find myself OCDing in a big way in each area trying to get places.

Which I think is what Disp is basically complaining about. The game seems more focused on little jump puzzles and shit instead of just killing enemies and getting loot. When I enter some combat it is almost like "Finally!"

Yeah basically what I'm saying is you're never in one area very long. You constantly have to get into your car and drive around to get to the next area just to kill 10-20 dudes, then get back in your car, drive across basically a desert, and kill 10 more. Just hoping stuff is more consolidated going forward. As far as the dialogue, so far there are a couple funny things, but what I'm saying is it seems like almost every time a character talks to progress a mission, you've got to wait until they finish their dialogue to find out the next objective. You're constantly sitting there for 30-60 seconds while they talk before you have any idea what to do next. That happened sometimes in the first 2 games, but it usually updated the quest and you could start going to the next objective while the NPC is talking. Now it's essentially like watching a cut scene every few minutes where you just have to stand around doing nothing until you know where to go.

Not very far in obviously, so a lot of this could change, but I just want to kill shit.

This one feels worse because you're always backtracking to either turn in, or go back to a previous area because you hit a switch.
FYI You can switch quests while you're out and about so you don't have to go back and turn them in one by one. I like to do all of my optionals then the main story quest then make a run turning them all in. Doesn't always work out so perfectly but it may help.

On another topic I may switch to Athena from Nisha. Nisha's super is awesome and on a super short cooldown but shes also a Glass Cannon. Against that boss with laser burn damage I died in like two hits. If I kill a bad guy and then get downed right after I have a hard time killing something else that isn't near me since I can't zoom or use my special abilities. I'm going to try and fill out one tree before I switch but I'm not sold on her just yet.

Or hell Claptrap seems to have lots of Health Regen. Maybe I need to cave in a get a case of the Clap. I wanted to start a Claptrap character as a group/public group character though.

Just beat the first playthrough on Athena. First 1/3 or so of the game was so slow but the last 2/3 was pretty good imo. I like seeing how BL2 came to be.

Enjoying the game a great deal so far. I dig the new mechanics, I like the expanded loot system and I enjoy the dialog and more story centric parts of it.

Really not liking this game at all ugh. Just can't get into it.
Is it because:
-The dialogue is horrible and the humor largely forced?
-There seems to be more areas than not in which to kill yourself while in a vehicle?
-Vehicles ignore the new low gravity?
-The new guns are basically elemental SMGs with different particle effects?
-The game is bug ridden?
-The new mechanics are gimmicky and don't improve gunfights, even if you prefer to get in melee range?
-So many of the quests are "find a way up there"?
-They've learned nothing from the past two games about streamlining quests?
-Tarrant really likes it?

Where are you at? I found myself struggling to enjoy the game but once I got the Grinder and the Pickles quest the game seems much, much better now. Also the Stingray vehicle is so much better to traverse the zones than the buggy.

Stingray is indeed superior to the buggy, plus you can have four of them out in a multiplayer game which helps with those annoying timed quests. (Which are already much easier with several players)

Looks like The Baroness is a DLC character that was datamined from beta code on Steam. If true then there will be three chicks, one dude and claptrap. Gender inequality!!

That's about where I'm at. I have the quest to turn in 50 common items to the grinder and I think I'm at the Pickles dude. The missions just suck dick to me in every way and I think that's what's bugging me the most. So much "click a button way at the end of the zone, then click a different button at the other end, now go back to the first part, now go to the other end of zone, now go back to first part that you've been through 3 times yet again". Too much trying to figure out how to get to areas too where it just feels almost like a tedious puzzle. Like Deathwing also said, most of the dialogue seems forced and not very clever, and too much stopping action to listen to NPC's talk. I just can't pinpoint a single thing that I feel is an improvement over BL2, and everything feels like a step back.

Still gonna play all the way through, but I had to stop after 2 or so hours last night cause I was bored out of my mind.

You gotta turn those 50 commons into the mailbox btw not the Grinder. Seems very tedious but I may do it just for the legendary oz. I'm only at 10/50 and I got those 10 by blowing all my cash on the slots. But slots + Grinder means you can end up with some decent loot.

It's really hard to get used to Borderlands' reticules after you've been playing Destiny for a couple months. The characters' hands shake like they all have epilepsy, and it's so shitty to control that I actually switched to using the gamepad I have plugged in for Evil Within because some asshat decided to 'balance' mouse and keyboard precision by making the gun sway a hell of a lot more than it does when you use a controller.

The writing is pretty poor and not funny at all yet, and I definitely see what people are talking about with the annoying quest design.

Only have about 5 hours of play time in but the writing does seem a bit flat compared to the past series. Borderlands 2 had a lot of memorable moments within the first 2-3 hours (hell probably within the first 15 minutes to be honest) of play, this one hasn't and at the same price as all the other Borderlands games I would have expected that it'd be on par. Nothing about the combat has changed I rarely find myself wanting to use the slam attacks in low grav most of the time a sniper rifle is far more effective and leads to less bullshit deaths or situations where i'd needlessly die.

Still going to continue to give it some more time to grow on me but i'm feeling a bit burned, right now I would have probably saved it for a winter steam sale where it'll probably go 40 or 50% off at some point.

Not sure why the hate, but it's always fashionable on the intarweb to say what comes next is not as good as the original. So far this is what I would expect from a BL game, and I'm having fun. Glad to have something to break my habit of non-stop dark souls 2
