That's the issue of course. Honestly I don't know anything about Representative King even though I live in New York, he may very well have questionable ideas but that quote isn't questionable in my view.

If people are putting things out there in the public space then that can certainly be used against them in my view. As I said in my examples, I already do such things myself. If there's a crazy guy harassing people on the street, I watch out and use caution. If there's a sex offender living down the street, I watch out for my friends and family in the area. If there's a person in a radical group, whether a radical Muslim group or any other, saying and doing crazy things, then I would be cautious about that as well. It doesn't have anything to do with being racist or bigoted.

I'm all for freedom, say whatever crazy shit you like, do whatever crazy shit you like, but I'm sure as hell going to be cautious and careful around your crazy ass. If that sort of public surveillance can help to save lives then I'm all for the government doing it as well.

Everybody deserves Due Process, even accused terrorists. Certainly our system is not perfect, no system will ever be perfect, especially when humans are out there trying to rig it or cheat it, but thats no reason to throw out the entire concept of innocent until proven guilty, and the due process that entails.

Who wants to bet the "administration and fundraising" areas of his non profits spending is above 50%, above 75%, above 90%? Or that he is running guns on his mission trips.

Uh, is this even possible? Not to mention its clearly unwinnable. You pretty much have to prove intent AFAIK, and there's no chance anyone proves the FBI intended to get people blown the fuck apart.

It was upon request from a foreign country apparently that he be questioned. There is an article on TPM that also talks about how Russia gave some information but they have their own goals with respect to Chechnya so it is tough to take what they say at face value.

Anyone who thinks violence is justifiable, outside of self defense, because of their beliefs. That is what makes them a radical-[insert preferred social, political or religious group here]

There are people who think perpetrating violence is fine, but do not affiliate with any particular group. We call those people murderers, or just violent ass holes. Once people of that persuasion group up under a common banner, now we say they are radical. This sucks because the threshold for violence lowers once any justification is found. No matter how outlandish or misguided or just plain wrong that justification is, people feel a lot better about hurting others when they have an excuse.

Simply watching radical videos or reading radical writings does not automatically make someone... anything. It may raise some questions about why they are interested in such things but that's it. Writing and saying that certain people should die or be harmed, in a serious manner, definitely plants someone further in the radical camp. In many cases that is enough for the person to be brought into custody. Despite what some may think, there is no such thing as unlimited free speech in this country.

But even if someone spouts off the most rabid hate speech, there is still one more distinction of radicalism; those who are willing to act on their beliefs. This is pretty hard to detect until someone actually commits an action. People can compartmentalize their beliefs and create false exteriors, especially when they realize their beliefs might be viewed with hostility from the rest of society. Finding people preparing to engage in dangerous activity is a full time job and unless they are writing things down or stockpiling physical materials, it can seem next to impossible to catch.
