No doubt that Jones was flashier and faster than Mayweather, but technically? Mayweather wins hands down over Jones Jr., technically. Roy was able to dominate fighters so easily because he was just so much fucking faster. The truly great technical fighters are still able to maintain their dominance once they age and their speed slows down. Once his age started to surpass his speed, you saw what happened.

Furthermore, Jones never really beat anybody impressive, outside of maybe Toney, Tarver (who whopped his ass twice later) Hopkins (he was like fucking 20 pounds heavier than Hopkins at weigh-in, so that one is questionable) and maybe Griffin?. The only other really notable victories were against an old Felix Trinadad and a 45 year old (lol) Hopkins. That was always my biggest issue with Jones. The dude fought almost noting but cans in his prime, because he never challenged himself once he got his big HBO contract. He was certainly one of the greatest of his generation and one of the most exciting/tantalizing physical talents the sport has seen, but his resume just isn't good enough to even hold a candle to guys like Robinson, Louis, Ali, Pep, Leonard, etc.
First thing Toney was really good when he fought him, and he embarrassed him. Because he made every pro look like a can, you think he wasn't good?

Are you fucking dumb. So let me get this straight the only way Roy could have been the greatest fighter of all times was to face another Roy. Guess what, that person never existed . Roy was way better then anyone when he was young. There still hasn't been anyone with that type of raw speed, and power ever. Who the fuck was going to beat him?? Speed, and power, trump defense. If you can break defense, and they aren't even quick enough to defend it, they are done son.

There is almost no boxer who ever lived that was both that fast, and that powerful in their prime. Boxers just have one of those traits, and they can be a god. Not both at the same time.

It's so funny how people categorize all time greats. Right now they are arguing on ESPN that a guy with a 48-0 record over two decades is not an all time great boxer because his fights are boring. wow....

Boxing would be far more entertaining if the rules stayed the same and they switched to mma gloves.
Fights like this should go til a knockout. With all the hype involved it's what people pay to see.

Had to go watch Tysons knockout compilations to remind myself what boxing should be.

The thing is it's a sport not a movie, or a musical concert. They don't need to entertain you, they just need to win....

I don't disagree with you, he followed the rules and won.

Hockey went though the defensive boring stage for years as well until fans got sick of it and the rules were adjusted to try and create more exciting games

Yeah they let them fight in Hockey, LOL, do you remember that?. I guess it gets to the point where are we just looking for blood sports now? are we such a sick society that we are only entertained by other people hurting themselves.

Maybe.

The biggest let down tonight is Pacman didn't live up to the hype. If he was the great fighter we thought he was then this fight would have been way more close, and exciting. There's just no way to know what's going to happen. You can't write the outcome in sports because it ceases to be a sport.

When Jones knocked out Virgil Hill with basically 1 body shot that was insane. Hill is a legit HOF boxer and he just got absolutely smoked.

This match is basically RIP for boxing. Huge hype, giant let down. Like someone on reddit posted, it was like the TI4 finals for DOTA2 ;p

I probably just watch to much UFC but Pac controlled the ring for all 12 rounds and was active the whole time. So I'm just confused why he lost. The defensive boxing on Mayweather's part wasn't very obvious to me.

Mayweather is the San Antonio Spurs of Boxing. You know is good but still boring as hell to watch.
The Spurs game against Clippers last night was freaking amazing.

In MMA analogy terms, Mayweather is the GSP of boxing.

He plan his fights in a way to a dull points win.

Time for real entertainment.

Coincidentally, Philippines has the best whole pig bbq (Cebu lechon) I've ever eaten.

There are plenty of bullshit UFC fights where the fighters spend a majority of the match cuddling up on the ground.
