my wife is half chinese, I just don't see you have any success at all in trying to ram these western dramas down. Mad Men, BB, Boardwalk, etc are just antithetical to most of the beliefs she grew up with plus the accents and cultural references will make the show impossible to really understand. Anytime she tells you she likes a show like The Wire, she is just trying to make you feel better.
my wife absolutely loves korean dramas, there are massive torrents of them (d-addicts.com is a good site) even though she doesn't speak korean they are apparently the tits, she'll marathon through 12 hours of that stuff on a weekend and be all weepy and emotional which is a good thing apparently.

As for success with western dramas... she really does enjoy The Wire. She has no problem letting me know when she does not like something.
But I can see why Arrested Development did not work out well for her. And Deadwood... I assume it was the slow start and the accents that made it unenjoyable.
She watches new tv shows, she has basically tried most mainstream stuff thats started within the last 4 years.
Apart from some of the drug slang (which gets explained to walt anyway) I don't see a huge barrier of entry for her to enjoy the show. But yeah... gonna watch the new episodes by myself and then wait for series to finish before introducing it to her.

Personally the depths of their cuntness would take eons of whining to truly explore, so I'm fine with every new cunt post. If it's one thing Skylar has some depth with, it's exploring new ways to be a cunt. (Seriously though, there hasn't been new episodes in months...Who cares what the conversation is? It's like your shtick to jump into any fast moving thread and preach about how banal the discussion is. )
In all seriousness though. Recent season SKylar=Best Skylar. It felt like that showdown with Hiesenberg made Skylar think rationally, and admit what she can accept and can not accept. Her actions after roughing up Ted have all been pretty refreshing. Essentially it's like she got Mike's "No half measures" speech. I was kind of hoping she'd find a spine and narc Walt out, rather than continuing to be a pussy about the difference between her wants and her actions (Oh, I can't have you around! But I only go so far as to fuck ted to hurt you emotionally....Seriously?)...But her taking the hardcore money launderer route was just as good.
So you can look forward to no cunt Skylar posts from me, probably--unless she returns to mid-season 3 Skylar.

You started on Skylar, then the cunt brigade came out--then the "that's misogynist" to hate Skylar brigade came out and they pointed out a lot of women get extra hate, then I responded to them that hating Skylar is natural and that bad characters tend to be women because of a certain set of tropes and that if youhadto apply sexism, it was the writing, not the audience (But again, my original premise is that there is no sexism in hating Skylar--people hate her because she's insufferable, not because she's a woman). That's not a crusade for women everywhere--that's entering into a discussion that's been on going for 24 hours, with an opinion. It eventually went on to pointing out how there is a stereotype in using women for that device though.
So, you were wrong about me causing the derailment (The conversation had been going on for a day+). My premise and even the context of the argument.

I concur with everything you said, though i will say that, because of the material, it's hard to write a good piece for women and they tend to revolve around Walter/Jesse (as it is their story--no one else). Back story for anyone who cares: My mom's friend has a son that works on Hollywood sets. Started out as an errand bitch boy, got promoted to the guy who yells "quiet on the set!", and now he's a personal assistant to the director or something. Anyways, my brother works for a car company and helped my moms friend get a discount on her car, so as a thanks this dude swiped some blue meth off the set and mailed it to my brother. Or it's total bullshit and he just mailed us some rock candy from Circle K, but I choose to believe!
Can't wait for the season to start, it's gonna be badass.

Hey I just caught up on Breaking Bad, you have to deal with being reminded that Skylar is a terrible character and almost all the female characters in the show are evil, ineffective, ignorant, weak and/or bitches.
I do like the Madrigal chick, though her trying to have Mike's guys kill Mike is pretty dumb but forgivable. I would've loved it if she spent more time being a corrupt beaurocrat and less time being someone afraid Mike was going to kill her. The scenes she did with Walt were great.
