That might be true, but even if it is, why is it any of your business? Why do you get to say whats useless about those people? Why don't you worry more about yourself and let people live the lives they want to lead? People getting drunk and casually hooking up with each other are not hurting you, regardless of what you think. They might not be behaving up to your lofty standards, but you don't get to tell people what to do.

Why is itmybusiness? Because colleges have turned into a heavily taxpayer subsidized four+ year long party with very little educational benefit. It's all of our business.

So yeah, I am in favor of a lot less freedom for people supposedly getting an education on the taxpayer's dime.

I'm sorry, Cad, but this is just idiotic. We live in a society where what affects some of us directly affects all of us indirectly. Would you suggest we let pedophiles be pedophiles since none of us are children so they can't hurt us personally? Are we not allowed to have opinions about how society functions? Underage drinking (like pedophilia) is illegal, so why the fuck not discuss the negative impacts it has on society? You can't pretend it's harmless since it's part of the reason "rape culture" became a big-ticket topic in the first place.

College shouldn't be advanced daycares and they shouldn't be predatory havens. I don't think anyone is defendingrealrapes that happen. No matter if they happen on a college campus or otherwise.

The sole responsibilty of the college is to educate. It is not to socially regulate -- not this way. I've known guys that get better at doing calculus when they're toasty and I've known guys that write better when they're drunk... as long as they remember to edit when they're sober. It makes no sense to me at all and I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Some guys... their brains... it's fucking weird. As long as the college is producing competent graduates that will be of public professional use what does it matter what their private habits are?

The kids that binge drink and skip out will also probably be the ones that wash out. That's just not the responsibility of college administration to police. Of course laws should be enforced. But campus cops aren't actually cops. The proof is in the fact that if a student has done something that requires he be arrested, or there is enough suspicion of that, those campus cops will call the real cops to do it.

They may be young adults but the fact remains that these are adults. They may be using someone elses money, but the fact remains that someone else trusts them enough to give them money to fail.

What you have to come to grips with is that while you can equalize access and guarantee opportunity, you can NOT equalize or guarantee results. You could turn college into a completely dry and sexless 3 years (you literally could, there are colleges which do that). But the exact same thing that you're concerned about stopping -- that'll still happen. And what did it cost you to manage to change nothing?

I mean, if your college is handing out free 6packs at orientation... you might just be working at a party school. And if they're not, then what's the problem really?

I'd be very happy with just stoppingpromotingtheir bad behavior. Colleges think they're being "progressive" by promoting a culture where consequence-less sex and drinking are the norm. That's just reckless, not progressive, because there are ALWAYS consequences.

Well, yeah, I won't and can't argue with that. I don't know them specifically becuase it's obviously been a while since I've been in college... but there are some truly dumb motherfucking policies wherever you go.
