Of course correlation is a valuable observation tool. It is used to create hypotheses, which are then tested using the scientific method to see if they pan out. If you don't go through that all-important step of putting the hypothesis to the test, then your theory is only good for sharing with people who already agree with you and are more than happy to consider your theory feasible with no proof. Don't expect it to count for much in a debate scenario, though.

When did feminism "take root"? Are you talking about first wave, second wave, or third wave? What other social changes took place over that time? I'll bet you could find a shit ton of shifts, changes, technological developments, world-changing events and various miscellanea that occurred the same time feminism "took root". How are you measuring people's happiness? How far back can we measure general shifts in societal happiness? What reason do we have to believe that this decline in happiness (which itself is not even a given) is due to feminism? Jesus Christ, a lazy schmuck throws out a lazy correlation and I'm the bad guy for having reasonable doubt.

Not nearly as lazy as throwing a haphazard correlation out and expecting it to have value JUST BECAUSE.

Edit: Also, it was a fucking comic strip. I didn't draw it, but I certainly saw how it was relevant to what was being said. Also, "phrase du jour"? This is the first time ever (as far as I remember) that I've pointed out that correlation doesn't equal causation. Sue me.
