Some thinkers, such as Martha Nussbaum, have challenged the idea that objectification is a necessarily negative phenomenon, arguing for the possibility of positive objectification. While treating a person as an object (in one or more of the ways mentioned above) is often problematic, Nussbaum argues that objectification can in some contexts take benign or even positive forms, and can constitute a valuable and enjoyable part of our lives. In her forthcoming work, Nancy Bauer questions the very idea that it makes sense to specify the marks and features of the term 'objectification'. Such an attempt, she argues, will only distort the phenomenon in question
You seriously, as usual, don't know what you are talking about. Objectification and dehumanization are different things. You can dehumanize a human because they are a human, but you cannot dehumanize an animal because they aren't human. You can howeverobjectifyan animal, because they are not objects.Firstly, you're conflating objectification with dehumanization. Objectification is an intermediate step towards dehumanization.
Secondly, you're still constantly conditioning your brain to think that way by doing those things, and then add in the fact that male brains are more likely to be structured to think that way in the first place, mix in some neuroplasticity and you've got a recipe for a lot of the behaviors we see.
Again, I said I wasn't ascribing positive or negative values to the behaviors. That's just fancy talk bullshit for the idea that everything is an object first and only in your mind do you attach a feeling to it and create a subject.
I agree they're mostly subjectively judgmental which makes them worse because it's not a reality based way of thinking, it's magical thinking.Again, I said I wasn't ascribing positive or negative values to the behaviors.
I'm just saying the kermit meme is wrong, women don't "objectify" other women, generally.
Kermit knew exactly what he was getting intoKermit didn't do shit. Mist just had to bump one of her threads before it fell off the first page so she did what she does best.
Are you saying Kermit was asking for it?Kermit knew exactly what he was getting into
Men don't notice how much they objectify women because men objectifyeverything. The propensity for men to objectify things is just side effect of their neurobiology. It's not even up for debate, especially here of all places; this is a forum where there's 2 entire threads devoted to pictures of women's butts and buttholes, largely sans faces.
Gotta love how Mist is okay with different neurobiology in the sexes when it fits her argumentand then add in the fact that male brains are more likely to be structured to think that way in the first place, mix in some neuroplasticity and you've got a recipe for a lot of the behaviors we see.
