We should really stop calling these women sexual assault victims until somebody is found guilty.

Sexual assault accuser would be more accurate, and would respect the possible innocence of the defendant.

I mean, just look atthis shitthat is happening to Kanye West right now.

He had the audacity to tweet a fundamental truth, saying 'Bill Cosby is innocent', and is getting torn apart for it. As far as I know, the accused is innocent UNTIL proven guilty. I don't give a fuck how many women come forward. He may LOOK pretty damn guilty, but as it stands, and until it changes, Bill Cosby is an innocent man.

People seem really quick to forget about this shit when vaginas are involved.

That's the point slavov zizek was making about communist regimes, it's not enough that you obey you have to love the party line, they use love against you.

I'm just giving you the perspective of Feminist Canada. As far as they're concerned, too many women are afraid of speaking out about their assault because of what that puts them through. Since they believe false claims of sexual assault are minimal, they're ready to make a blanket statement and say "We believe you" to anybody willing to come forward. It seems as though, as far as they're concerned, whatever damage might be done by believing someone who's lying (which is, arguably, none since they have no legal power and their belief doesn't count for muchexcept"feels") is worth contributing to an environment where victims feel more comfortable speaking out.

This is the closest I've seen you come to trolling, Quaid. I'm honestly not sure if you're serious here.

West made a statement that he had to have known would have been interpreted as "Cosby didn't do it!", of course it was interpreted that way, people got upset at him for saying something stupid, and here you are with "Well, if we look at the legal definition of 'innocent', what he said is technically correct until we can prove otherwise". For fuck's sake, putting aside the fact that the legal definition of "innocent" is not the only one, if he was trying to say what you're suggesting he could have said "COSBY INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY" and had enough characters left over for triple the exclamation points. He would have still gotten flack for it, but at least you would have a point.

You're 100% right about one thing: Logic and reason often do go out the window when vaginas are involved.

Yea but don't worry guys. Tanoomba just wants "emotional support" for women by saying "We believe you no matter what." It's not totally a step in that direction, at all. Or anything. Just believe.
Citation definitely needed.

Citation of what? That you're defending feminists that just want sexual assault victims believed no matter what?

Oh wait.. you're not "defending them" you're just.. "correcting misconceptions" ?

Let me spell it out for you: Feminists offering emotional support to victims of sexual assault are not demonstrating the mindset that led to lynchings.
Your statement about whatIwant was made up bullshit. I even went out of my way to point out that I neither defend nor endorse what these feminists are doing, but simply take issue with bullshit equivalences. Shame on you.

Tanoomba, the context of the tweets that started all of this is the crazy idea that cross examination is abuse. 'Abuse' was a deliberately chosen word. Had she said they "welcome moretrauma" that would completely change the meaning and actually make the statement reasonable. 'Abuse' implies it shouldn't be done. Which also implies the defendant shouldn't be allowed to defend him or her self

No, the context of the Tweets is that some people believe it is far too difficult for women to come forward about being sexually assaulted. You can agree or disagree, I don't give a shit. The people that believe this are attempting to counter the challenges faced by victims of sexual assault by offering unconditional support and belief in their claims. Again, you can talk about how misguided or wrongheaded that is all you want. I don't give a shit. It's not lynch mob mentality. That's it. I'm not defending them. I'm not supporting them. I'm not agreeing with them. It's. Not. Lynch. Mob. Mentality. Anything you have to say that isn't a direct response to that is a straw man.

No need to get all cunty about it. I'm just discussing it with you.

When you look at these tweets and the general sentiment in many corners of the media about the cross examination being unfair, it's pretty obvious that there is a bit of an issue with due process. Perhaps these tweets alone wouldn't amount to that, but in the broader discussion they do. I'm not taking it all the way to lynch mob mentality, but it seems you're defending the tweets far short of that

As we've pointed out, it is a mob mentality because is discourages dissent, discourages questioning accusations and facts around accusations, and encourages you to join the group and support someone regardless of their credibility. It's literally trying to silence criticism and encourage groupthink regarding sexual assault allegations.

I'm sure you'll handwave this away and argue semantics, but there it is.
