We are proud to announce our partnership w/CuriousFactory to help promote #CamelotUnchained throughout Asia & Europe!http://bit.ly/XV9JGB

March 7, 2013, Virginia - United States: Indie game developer City State Entertainment announces that, via its foreign publishing partner CuriousFactory, it has opened the launch site for its game project "CamelotUnchained" in Japanese, German, French and Korean.
City State Entertainment will develop "CamelotUnchained", which is a working title for the final game. The studio was founded in March 2011 and led by Mark Jacobs, the former founder and visionary of Mythic Entertainment?, developers of one of the most successful and beloved MMORPGs of all time, Dark Age of Camelot?.

"CamelotUnchained" is a game that pits players against one another in a Realm vs Realm? context. It is a departure from the concept of paid-for items and leveling that have become a staple of MMORPG culture these days, instead aiming to return to the "good old days" of MMORPG gaming. At the same time, the game aims to incorporate innovative components such as crafting and housing, which are fully integrated into RvR-theme of the game.

In order to bring this project to fruition, City State Entertainment will be launching a Kickstarter campaign (www.kickstarter.com) in March 2013 - seeking to generate global support. Updates will be published in newsletters (you can register for these athttp://www.cf-publishing.com/camelotunchained/), on Facebook and via Twitter. City State Entertainment also has a partnership with CuriousFactory for foreign promotions.

Feedly's okay, though the widget doesn't display as much information as I'd like, and there doesn't appear to be a way to change that. I was using gReader before, which had a widget with a long, simple list of recent news items -- not very pretty, but conveyed a lot of info. Also eyeing newsblur as a replacement, I kind of like their web UI better than Feedly's. Anyway, sorry for dragging this off-topic. :b

This all sounds good and anyone that has known Mark from his previous involvement knows he lives for opportunities to "write things up" and provide public postings. I'm cool with it and I've actually enjoyed the reads but he's not shining any new light here. Bottom line, it's cool, i'll continue to read but we've seen this before and then it doesn't work out when the attempt to execute these ideas.

I hope their ideas work out and we get the second coming of World of Dark Ages of Everquest Next but we'll see just like everything else.

One of the elements I took away from his latest blog that sounded interesting was this: "While we will lay out the world's topography and we will place a limited number of some key structures throughout it, it will be the players who will determine where the vast majority of the structures are placed and how they will be arranged, what their function is and even their power. "

I have to remain cautious knowing how bad the WAR crafting system was even if it wasn't his intended design or iteration of it. At least he's thinking about crafting well before the game is released and not an afterthought while already in beta like WAR was.

I don't know what this is supposed to mean.
I think the intention is CU +Hartsman = Draegan's Dream

I'm not going to lie, if Scott came out and said he was apart of it, I would consider it more and lend more of my attention but I'm not sure how likely this is....

This whole game just reeks of failure on my end. CU + anything = Draegan stays away.

Hartsman is not infallible. After what became of Rift through raids, class management, game direction, I'm not as gung ho on Scott as I used to be.

Hartsman seems less of a creative influence and more of a nuts and bolts sort of guy. He seems to pull it in and be a tad too risk averse. Overly cautious, maybe. But that's a good thing. Projects NEED that to be more than pipe dreams or they need it when shit is so unfocused that it's jumped off the rails in completely uninteresting ways.

They do also need something else. Maybe he needs a partner to offset him, I dunno. But I honestly do think he needs someone around to tell him that there's probably a better way to go about QA on his content. That shit they pulled in rift was way too god damn wet towel locker room for me. That shit was straight up adolescent. I'm not sure why anyone thought that was a good idea.

I'm not taking his poster off the ceiling above my bed just yet. Rift had its flaws but I didn't feel like he stole my money.

You are absolutely right, that interplay between people(usually the positions are something like Creative Director and Producer) is critical. A proper balance is desired, if the Producer is too much of a 'no you can't do that' killjoy then you end up with a stale, soulless game... if the Creative Director has too much power then everything costs way too much, nothing gets finished, and a game that 'could have been great' gets released.

I am generalizing heavily, not all producers and creative directors are like that. Generally what the nuts and bolts guy does is force the creative guy to make tough choices and concentrate the team's efforts on what makesTHISgame something worth playing. Of course I am assuming that everyone is good at their job, a shocking number of people aren't, but that is a different discussion.

Hartsman was famed anyway for taking a mess (EQ2) and improving it. We have never seen him, until Rift, start from the beginning with something and be "the guy". I thought he did better to some but didn't live up to his expectations. It may not be fair but everyone receives a report card in industry and even still I would think people have some confidence in him which is more than I can say for a lot.

Actually Scott did not start from the beginning with Rift. He came in and saved Heroes of Telara that was in dev hell and launched it. He has yet to be the head guy from the beginning on any project.
