HAHAHA, it all makes so much sense now.

On another topic, lets discuss recruiting shall we? I'm looking over recruiting rankings for next season and a few things stuck out to me: First, A$M is killing it. They've always managed to field pretty good classes, but it wasn't but a few years ago when they were competing with OSU/Tech etc for a large number of recruits. OU/Texas still got pretty much everyone they wanted from Texas, and left the rest to Big 12 teams, LSU/Arkansas etc. What's interesting is during Stoops' first 5-6 years he ALWAYS had top 5 classes. Every big, fast DL or LB it seems would end up in Norman. As of this morning - their class is ranked 30th. That's crazy to me. That is where OSU used to hover around (even during Les Miles' era). Pretty shocking fall - wonder if any OU guys care to weigh in? OSU btw is at 19 - pretty normal for us, and I believe A$M is up to 7th... an amazing development (even better than UT's class).

I know recruiting classes aren't the end all, be all in CFB - but they are certainly important. Can A$M's move to the SEC REALLY have that big an impact on their recruiting? If so, why do some perennial SEC powers not recruit (objectively) that well? Most of A$M's class is from Texas - but I didn't think the impact would be so significant so quickly. It's worrying to say the least (especially to the OU's and UT's - OSU has stayed in roughly the same range (15-20th ranked classes) for about a decade, and I imagine Tech, TCU, Baylor etc are all roughly the same. A$M, LSU etc are pulling these kids directly from UT and OU.
First, a lot of teams that do very well year in and year out recruiting don't hit the top 10 until close to signing day since plenty of top ranked recruits wait until late in the signing period before committing. Since the big named schools are in on a lot of those guys, they stay lower until the late push.

I think most recruiting rankings are bullshit though. I refuse to follow recruiting because it is biased towards the large schools and who they pick (even OU). I would much prefer to get guys that fit our system, have a good football IQ, and want to work hard every day then the guys we have been getting lately that have lots of athleticism and unrealized talent. Also, as noted in the FOH thread, I wish OU would go back towards bigger, meaner LBers and DLine. Also, I want big OLinemen again instead of the hurry-up crap we recruit these days and then run 3/4 of them off every year because linemen hate working out that much.

Not being a dick though. Take off the fan hat for a second and tell me how Texas is better than A&M.
Longer tradition/history of winning and being relevant. Football most notably, but basketball/baseball too. The gap has lessened in the other sports lately (most recently track, women's b-ball) and it *appears* to be lessening in football. But they are stillTheUniversity of Texas. Nothing is gonna change that. Their ceiling is bigger, and their floor is higher. Just the way the world works.

My stepdad played QB at A&M. The Letterman building is named after him. I grew up going to almost every single A&M game, all the home and most of the away. I went to school there and it was the best years of my life. You won't find a bigger fan. I despise UT. But it's still UT. They will always be bigger in Texas. Same way I think Florida's ceiling/floor is higher than FSU's. Sucks, but that's life.

Taebin gets it.

Texas just needs Mack to leave. Hopefully one more year to go.

@Rengak - He committed, decommitted, still had UT number 1 and then UT randomly pulled his ship offer with no public explanation. It was a strange recruitment, his AAU coach ran it which is shady and his father decommitted RSJ without him even being aware. He called Mack asking for insurance in case he gets hurt. Mack said his ship would be good even in the event of injury. RSJ said he would call him back. When he did, he told Mack he got his insurance from a booster. Mack told him he was no longer being recruited by Texas and hung up. Or that is the story anyway.

I agree with everything you said up to the "will always be bigger in Texas" part because they are not bigger at this very moment. A&M has the better team right now and is pulling in the better class. Texas has institutional and geographical advantages over A&M and over a long sampling of time will produce the better teams, but A&M is the better team right now and will be the better team for the foreseeable future.

Don't be afraid to make the *football* argument here because that is where you have the advantage. History and facilities haven't won Texas shit lately.

Coaching - A&M by a *lot*
QB - A&M by a *lot*
OL - A&M by a *lot
RB - Texas? But the A&M running game is better by a *lot*
Receivers - A&M

3 of the 4 most important assets in College Footballs (coaching, QB, and OL, 4th being DL) and A&M is a mile ahead of Texas.

I'll admit that I don't know either team very well on the defensive side of the ball. Texas somehow convinced the media to prop up their defense and ended the season in the bottom half of the ledger in scoring defense. A&M was much better. Advantage A&M.

It isn't even close. Now, Texas has doubled down on the same system that got them into this pit in the first place. One team's future looks bright. One team's future looks like more of the same.

A&M graduates like three first rounders including a top ten tackle and a top ten defensive end and both their lines are full of upperclassmen. We'll see how the team evolves in year two and three of Sumlin but he certainly seems to be stocking the cupboard.

The center is a senior. The two OT's and Damontre Moore are all juniors, and nobody knows what they are going to do. Moore and Joeckel are probably going pro though.

so yeah, if it's team, A&M fielded a better team than Texas this year... obviously

5th place in the SEC and a meaningless trophy don't make a shadow.
