Looks like your most hated DC is now making $1.4 million a fucking year for a DC... Holy... Shit... Either Tom Jurich is a mastermind genius and Grantham turns into a star, or I may mark this down as one of the very, very few fuckups Jurich has done (the only other one being the Kraigthorpe hire). He's the probably best Athletic Director in the nation, but this is just... Wow

His defense at Louisville got blown up by every good team he played, just like it did at Georgia. It's in-fucking-sane. Dude is the Lane Kiffin of defensive coordinators.

I do not think he is worth near $1.4mil. I hope Jurich doesn't let us down with this decision...

Signing day is 2 days away, folks. Here are how the top 25 recruiting classes look as of today, it'll be interesting to see what changes after the official signing day.

But why would you EVER say that to a recruit, or someone who you are trying to gain favor with? Poor salesmanship at it's core.

99% of universities let in athletes with lower academic standards than the general student population is required to have. Mizzou requires a 24 ACT score unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances (very high GPA, top 10% of graduating class, etc, then ACT score can be lower)

Or obviously, if you are a D1-calibur athlete. Everyone makes exceptions. Hell, I doubt the kid meets the minimum requirements for Nebraska if he wasn't a football player.
I took the ACT between my 6th and 7th grade: I ended up with a 24 composite. This adult is about as intelligent as I was at 12. That's depressing.

Butch makes signing day boring. We have like one kid we're in on and we already have 29 commits.

I love how different the two major recruit ranking sites are.

Over/under on how many of those teams will be unranked mid-season with such amazing recruits?

Hoping we have a few more teams again like GT (ranked #46ish last year and no better before) demolishing top 10 recurring recruiting classes.

That's pretty much Mizzou every year. We've snuck into the low 20s recruiting classes a couple times in the past decade but our classes are almost always in that 25-40ish range. We definitely do more with less.

We should end up well into the top 20 this year though if the #2 recruit in the country, DT Terry Beckner Jr signs with us as signs seem to indicate.

The scariest part about looking at recruiting rankings isn't the fact that Alabama is #1 for like the 5th year in a row, but look at how FAR ahead they are of even #2. The total point difference in those various ranking systems show a bigger gap between Alabama at #1, and whoever they have at #2, than #2 to about #7-11 depending on which service you look at. Alabama is so far out in front at #1 that they should in all honesty be like 5-10 spots ahead of #2, if the numbering system could work that way. Nobody is even close to sniffing them in recruiting.

With most other schools, a couple kids flipping one way or another could move you up several spots, or down several, but most of the teams #2-10 have roughly equivalent recruiting classes, there isn't a big separation there. Alabama has the big separation, they could probably split their class in half and have two top-25 recruiting classes, they have so many high-level recruits.

Point system has been around quite some time - of course, recruiting hype has been over the top retarded for a while.

The main thing people forget is the star system isn't just about the potential or ceiling of the recruit, but also about how ready they are to contribute immediately to the team. Also position comes in to play - a 4/5 star running back or defensive end has a much better chance of seeing the field as a freshman than a 4/5 star QB or offensive lineman.

So teams with lower recruiting rankings (and arguably more reasonable expectations) redshirt their 3* guys, give them a year to develop and these guys stay until they are seniors and have caught up physically to the freaks who were damn near fully mature as freshman.

Agreed, the only 5-stars that generally see the field as Freshman are usually WR and RB, positions where the main commodity is speed and agility, which time in the weight room isn't going to change significantly. It's really, really rare that a lineman or linebackers can come straight out of HS and hold his own in college. You pretty much have to be a once in a generation freak like Jadaveon Clowney to do something like that.

Also, the 5-stars likely to see the field as Freshmen tend to be the ones that go to a school that isn't already littered with high-level recruits. A 5-star RB could walk into Mizzou and start as a Freshman, If he chooses to go to Alabama he's sitting behind a handful of other 5-star upperclassmen RBs that are older, bigger, stronger, and already know the offense.

What Alabama is doing is recruiting is scary, because they are getting so many high-level recruits that they can redshirt 5-star kids, sometimes having them sit for several years before they see the field. Most programs would be under intense pressure to get those kids on the field ASAP.

No doubt - and this year it has actually hurt us at a critical position, offensive tackle. We have a top notch group of interior linemen coming in, knowing they won't start for at least two years, possible three. But the pure tackle prospects are being sold immediate playing time at other schools (hey, it happens at Alabama too when you're a three and done sure thing like Cam Robinson this year). Bama also slow played a few lower on the board - pretty sure that's going to bite us tomorrow. We'll have to hope one of the guys this year can develop into a LT or get a good prospect next year because Robinson is gone after 2016.

Looks like Butch Jones and Tennessee will sign 36 4- or 5-star prospects in the '14 and '15 classes. They signed 14 total in '12 and '13.
The joys of having a competent coach again.

Well Cowart committed to us, hopefully that signals a few other good announcements today. We need some serious defensive help.

I'm really only going off of Rivals, but holy hell, Tennessee seriously is signing like 4 QB's. I'm pretty amazed that none of them have really taken a second look at the idea of competing with 3 other high quality guys along with a high quality guy already starting. Either way, great class, and I am really excited for the defensive side of the ball for the Vols.

Thanks. It's odd how drastically different the recruiting services are. ESPN has Beckner as a 5-star, #2 overall recruit in the country, and Rivals has him as a 4-star, #36 recruit, and 247 is in-between at having him #13 overall.

Regardless, if he's anywhere near as good as the last 5-star D-lineman we got(Sheldon Richardson, NFL defensive rookie of the year), I'll be quite happy. And it doesn't look like he'll have the qualifying issues that Sheldon had, we should have Beckner for multiple years.
