Also I finally sat down and watched most of an Alabama game this weekend. Anyone else think their tailback has shades of Trent Richardson? He was a tough runner who was impossible to take down but it seemed like dude had less than zero vision. He kept bumping into his own blockers but since it was Bama and their O-line kept opening mile wide holes he managed to get through.
100%.

I think we've definitely established at this point that Alabama's all-NFL O-line could pretty much give any RB behind them a 1500-yard season(assuming 1 guy gets the vast majority of the carries)

All those "great" Alabama RBs aren't panning out overly well in the NFL.

Trent Richardson was a huge bust
Mark Ingram has been decent, but not great. Only 1 of his 4 years got anywhere close to 1000 yards
Eddie Lacy has been good his 1st 2 years, but has slipped a bit this year
TJ Yeldon isn't doing much, but he does play for a terrible team

I think Derek Henry is maybe the 3rd or 4th best RB in the SEC. I'd definitely take Fournette or Nick Chubb over him, and maybe even Jalen Hurd of Tennessee. I think all 3 of those guys will be better pros than Henry

I wasn't even sure where the tailback was being projected. I just assumed that some people would see the stat line and declare him a great back but from actually watching the play on the field I'd be nervous to spend anything better than a 3rd round on him.

I mean, he's pretty fast for his size. But he's huge for a RB, and Alabama's O-line guarantees that he doesn't get touched until he's dealing with linebackers and defensive backs. Going to have some nice stats doing that.

ESPN is driving his Heisman push hard. 260 yards sounds great until you find out its on fucking 46 carries.

Its either QBs or SEC running backs.

Look at Le'Veon Bell at Michigan State, the dude had like 1800 yards rushing and over 1k of that was AFTER first contact. I remember watching his tape going into the draft and thinking, why was this guy so under the radar nationally? Well we know what he is in the NFL now, so its easy to see how the national title hunt + certain media perceptions (ie ESPN pimping SEC over everyone else) create this

That's a good comparison. Wisconsin under Alvarez and Bielema always had beast O-lines. Anyone back there performed well(and usually underperformed in the NFL, Montee Ball didn't do crap in the NFL)

It's kind of the equivalent of some of these crazy spread-offense quarterbacks. Just because you threw for 4000 yards and 50TDs at Texas Tech doesn't mean you're going to pan out to be an NFL quarterback

I think the problem evaluating is that it is pretty obvious that a spread QB is using a completely non-pro system. With the Alabama tailbacks they're lining up in pro formations and gaining yardage but the problem is the holes are 3x bigger than they'd see in the NFL so it makes it really hard to judge vision. But like I said from my recliner with no scouting experience it felt like to me Bama's RB was unnecessarily running into blockers -- but to his credit he'd often times bounce off and find the opening.

The 46 carries for 271 isnt the biggest deal on paper, but if you watched the game he gave every single bit he had in that fourth quarter to eat the time away and seal that game up. Derrick Henry and that O-line ate up every second they could to prevent that comeback bullshit Auburn likes to do. The O-line has also been ...not as good... this year on the eye test.

They also did a similar thing the LSU game that ate up like 10 minutes in the 4th quarter. If you can drive the for 10 straight minutes in the fourth quarter by running the same off guard run you are special. At the end they had 9 people in the box and they still couldn't stop him from getting 4-5 yard chunks. Auburns D sold out completely on the end of that drive to get that ball back. It was a real throwback.

This kind of talk really makes me hope the Spartans end up playing Alabama in the playoff(if they beat Iowa). Either way, I'll be more than happy to play against non B1G QBs.

This kind of talk? It's just what happened. They did the old school run the clock out grind the D down kinda shit.

I also would rather have Mich St than Iowa or Clemson. I hope Clemson takes a big stinky fucking loss this week.

Just curious...

Do you all prefer to see playoff/bowl matchups that put two contrasting styles against each other, or two similar styles to see who does it best? Would you rather see Michigan St vs Alabama, or see something like a Michigan St vs Baylor?

I kinda like wildly mismatched styles going at it, although it usually doesn't result in close games. Someone usually blows the other one out.

I'd prefer to see the most appropriately seeded team vs another appropriately seeded team. I don't really care about style clash. They're bound to happen anyways with so much diversity in NCAAFB.

Whatever the matchup is, my money is on Sparty. Plus we already know they can beat the Baylor types.

So it's looking like Ohio State is projected to play Stanford in the Rose Bowl. That seems like it would be a pretty boring matchup. They should send Iowa or Michigan State there to really up the snorefest. I'd prefer Ohio State to play Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. I think it'd be much more entertaining. Plus there would be the added bonus of Lurkingdurk's tears.

Of course it would just be amazing if mayhem happens and the Buckeyes sneak back into the playoffs.

I can dream, right?

MMIC says the Missouri will name Mike Bobo head coach by end of the week.

Grats Joe. You getting Bobo, bro.
Everybody is passing up/being told no by the next elite coach, Herman. Things are shaping up nicely for December 2016!
