To elaborate on what Tarrant just said, here's the article.
Marvel is excited to announce an all-new era for the God of Thunder in brand new series, THOR, written by Jason Aaron (Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin) complimented [sic] with art from Russell Dauterman (Cyclops).

This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel?s ?big three? ? Captain American, Iron Man and Thor ? Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mj?lnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe?

?The inscription on Thor?s hammer reads ?Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.? Well it?s time to update that inscription,? says Marvel editor Wil Moss. ?The new Thor continues Marvel?s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn?t a temporary female substitute ? she?s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!?

Series writer Jason Aaron emphasizes, ?This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it?s unlike any Thor we?ve ever seen before.?
I bet she'll be a hot 19 year old blonde like the Valkyrie chick from The Ultimates 3.

I haven't been keeping up with Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor at all, but wasn't Angela (from Spawn) recently proclaimed a long-lost relative of Thor and Loki? They wouldn't be going that direction to give Angela a boost, would they? I liked Angela a lot in Spawn, haven't read her at all since she came over to Marvel, but hopefully that isn't what they intend. Grimmlokk is probably closest to being correct, but I figured I'd ask since you never know what stupid ideas they'll come up with. Like making Thor a chick.

yeah. general assumption is Angela.

Black eyes/lips though. Makes me wonder Hela herself for some reason.

no. It was a big "thing" the fallout between Gaiman and Macfarlene, and character ownership.
Have some fun with google on the matter. its a long story.

Macfarlene didn't own Angela, medieval spawn. Miracleman might show up in Marvel now too.

Well Marvel bought Miracleman a few years back as I recall. Was just curious why someone from Image would be stepping in as a huge Marvel character.

what must thor do in order to not be worthy of mjolnir? a few years ago beta ray bill (who wields stormbreaker, the same as mjolnir) had his planet eaten by galactus, so he took revenge by destroying the intended feeding targets of galacus to starve him. he would evacuate the homeworlds, the last straw was when he forced a world off planet by infecting them and giving them the cure when they left, stormbreaker deemed him unworthy then. (eventually stormbreaker deems him worthy again)

oh and the pic i linked in the new thor.

Because Todd McFarlane was kind of a douche to Neil Gaiman so when he got his characters back he sold them to Marvel.

its.... not clear...

Thor in general is a bit murky on some levels.

Like, who IS Thor?

theres a link around talking about it..
But, the original had a doctor, Donald Blake find the hammer, and inherent the powers of Thor. calling himself Thor. And in some alt versions, a women does the same thing, making a female Thor.
That eventually got retconned, so that Donald Blake was just a pocket personality of the actual Thor, who lost his memories of being Thor, etc, when he was banished. Wandered the Earth, and took the name Donald Blake on.
This is alot like Captain Marvel/Shazam, really. Where, for the longest time, Marvel was totally someone else entirely. Like Billy and Captain marvel switched places, at best, or worse Billy physically and mentally changed into Marvel. Eventually this was changed more, into Marvel is just an adult Billy, but still mentally Billy, with just wisdom, and knowledge of the ages added in.
So, back to Thor.. Many people have clearly gotten Thor's powers when picking it up, becoming "Thor", as if "Thor" is more of a title, then an actual person. Others, pick it up and get a costume, and powers, but are still themselves.

The only thing that bothers me about the new Thor is that Thor isn't a title. It's his name. All the press releases seem to think that it's a title of some sort because their like "It's no she-Thor, or Thorina". Well duh.

It's like somebody new taking over the Captain America mantle and having to change their name to Steve. It wouldn't make sense.

Edit: Just read Caliane's post.

Guess that makes sense too, seems like a stretch with current continuity though.

The roll of Captain America will no longer be played Stever Rogers, nope, Marvel has decided its time for a change. So the new Captain America will be the black guy called "The Falcon", set to happen this November.

The mantle of Cap has changed many times, it always comes back to Steve and this will be no different. Maybe when Stevie boy gets his powers back Falcon can turn in to US Agent 2.0!
