Are both the machines the same OS? Specifically have you got Vista on the laptop? Have you tested other DVDs in your laptop to make sure it's not the drive?
Yeah, same OS, Win7. Tried other DVDs, they were fine.

I'll probably just try to exchange it. Might be a bad DVD.

Thats a shame, i was thinking of selling my ivybridge zenbook prime and getting into a haswell alienware... But if that's what I have to look forward to ill just keep the zen.
Mine have never had issues like this.

Have you tested the RAM, Alpha?

More than likely that's what it is. There's minor differences between drives but that shouldn't matter when going from disc->disc. More than likely the disc is just shit. They shouldn't give you any issues at the store, just have them open the shit and give you just the disc.

My Alienware m17x has been a pain in my ass since day one. BSODs out the ass - BUGCODE USB_DRIVER and INTERNAL CLOCK INTERVALs happen daily. I also get system hang ups about 5 times a day where the shit just crashes and the only thing I get to see is Kernal Power event 41. Oh and if I close my laptop lid the system hangs too. I've changed all my settings and rebooted the system with a fresh windows 7 minus all the gay dell shit. Not really sure what to do at this point.
How long have you had it? That sounds like bad hardware. If you're getting full system hangs and it isn't even creating a dump file for the crash my money would be on bad ram.

My issue was the software that comes with the killer nic. I finally caught the bastard when I had the bsod screen not auto reset. I did ram tests and checked my temps and reformatted. Took about a week to finally get it all straight.

Gonna move this here since it is a problem, I know a number of others have asrock z77 extreme4. Has anyone else gotten suround sound working from it using an HDMI cable. I downloaded the latest audio driver for it and when i test it in my audio settings i can hear a tine from all my speakers but when i play a video of any kind the back 2 don't make any sound.

I have windows 8 and the receiver is a Sony dh810 7.1http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...w_bottom_links

I have tried everything I can think of, again on the test I hear all of them but no movies music or video comes out the back 2

Now that you mention it, I had a similar issue with my m11x. That Killer driver that ships with the system is bullshit. Got the latest from their site and no problems since.

You are saying you are able to set test tones out via the audio settings in your computer to all 7 speakers?

If that was succesful, I would ask what your source videos are. Not all movies are encoded 7.1. You are far more likely to find only 5.1 (no rear channels).

So I have 5.1 in my family room and then speakers 6 and 7 are in the living room, I guess as a separate Chanel for music. I have 3 different configurations to choose from in my audio settings for my receiver 7.1 which correctly sends a tone to each one, and two versions of 5.1, one using the living room speakers and the other using the back 2 family room speakers. I set it to 5.1 using only the family room speakers and the test runs the tones through all of them correctly but again not for videos. Most of the videos I have are from the internet, I tired it with videos I got that specifically said they had 5.1 encoding encoding and got nothing, I also tried 5.1 surround sound test videos on YouTube and again nothing. It does work through the external dvd player and the Xbox so I am guessing it is just the computer and either a mobo issue or maybe an HDMI issue.

Nevermind you were right I needed a video with real 5.1 to get it working I guess the others were lies

I got my new computer all built, and my wife reminded me of an old computer that she wants me to pull some pictures off of the HD. I had already started to pull that computer apart, and would prefer not to have to put it back together. Is there any chance at all that I can plug in the old HD to my new computer, not to boot off of it or anything, simply to pull the pictures from it? Or will it simply reject it and not be able to access anything on it?

Good to know. I will let you know if it works once I get my monitor here.

Just make sure you attach the second HDD to the slave IDE cable, if you put it on the master IDE cable you may run into issues with booting as I assume it was a boot drive and will have a conflicting MBR. There is a chance I am talking out of my ass, as I've never tried this.

You know I was wondering how it will determine the boot drive on startup. I have the mSATA SSD plugged into the motherboard, and just plugged in the HDD to one of the SATA slots. No clue how this is going to go! I figured I would just go into the BIOS at bootup and figure it from there?

Bios will have a boot order, but even so sometimes with multiple boot drives in a system you may face conflicts

Well, my monitor showed up a few days early, so I should be able to give it a test tonight. Will report back with what I find.
