Think it was already researched awhile back and its not the app but the recording/overlay portion that is causing the loss if memory serves. Unless somethings changed since then.

Update: just saw the 3rd link mentioned that.
I made certain to at least turn off the overlay G-Force feature within the thing even though I'm not running a new app, I'm trying to make certain to do the most bare Bones install of the older driver, and still nothing.

That's why I think it's just set something weird up, and I've tried to go through every menu in Windows that I can possibly find and try to read on what the different settings do if it's something I wasn't familiar with.

Problem is when eureka stuff online it seems to be kind of all over the place with the issues people are having. I'm not getting games crashing or anything but they definitely stutter or is before no problems whatsoever.

Starfield probably being the last graphics intensive game that I was playing, and when it came out it didn't run very well but that was on their end, then when they patched it a bit it ran smooth as butter. Even it does the weird deal that maybe about every 30 seconds it'll big down.

Could use something like DDU to completely uninstall all display driver files/apps and start clean. Rolling back also a good option if you can to see if the problem persists. Wonder if its how the shaders for the games got compiled between drivers too so looking into how to manually remove cached shaders might be an option also.

C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\Cache

Delete the contents. Then, start the game again, which will force it to rebuild the cache.

Are you running MSI afterburner? If you are, see if it’s still running stock clocks and hasn’t randomly locked itself to 25% power limit.

I thought the Nuclear installer deal did that already, didn't use DDU. Guess I need to give that a shot then.

Don't think so, not even sure what that one is. I'm assuming it's something specific for MSI products maybe?

To add on top of this the nvidia shader cache folder looks to be in
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\LocalLow\NVIDIA\PerDriverVersion\DXCache

It's an MSI program that anyone with an nVidia card can use to tweak clock speed, ram speed, power limits, etc.

Check your nVidia app and see if the "Power maximum" is below 100 (mine is 5% below from what I did in Afterburner to overclock a tiny bit and reduce power that wasn't increasing performance).

Hmm I use MSI afterburner on my Power Color 7900XTX Red Devil AMD card with RivaTuner to get FPS readings on games. Not sure it matters what team you choose. What does matter is you get the program FROM MSI and not www.bob's-its-really-the-program-not-a-virus.com because a lot of scammers use the program to give you cooties.

Got one for you guys. Parents called, their PC just died. Wont turn on, no lights, no fans nothing.

I show up. Test with different cable(that worked), make sure outlet works. Unplug ram and GPU, still nothing.

Use paperclip in 4th and 5th pin of 24 pin cable, turn on PSU and case fans come on, still no leds on motherboard, I assume this is because I still had 8pin plugged in. Paperclip with nothing plugged in and PSU fan spins up. Not a power switch either, as shorting the 2 P:SW pins on mobo does nothing either.

So I am leaning towards the Mobo just being dead but curious if any other tricks I could try. Unfortunately I do not have a spare PSU to test.

do the case fans also spin up? or do they die right after or not even at all?

So all the case fans spin up and run , if I use a paper clip in the 4/5pins of the ATX(24pin) connector while its unplugged and turn on the psu. THe 8pin is unplugged. The cases fans are all routed into a 4pin power cable that plugs directly into the PSU(instead of into sysfan connections on the mobo).

It's what makes me think the PSU is fine, as it powers itself and all 6 case fans.

Just does nothing as soon as you plug the 2 cables into the mobo(24pin and 8pin). Doesn't even power the fans anymore.

mobo is ded or you could be lucky and it has a short, maybe your pops dropped a screw in the case, take the mobo out of the case and put it on top of a cardbox and try to power it on

Yeah I took it out and tried to just run it like an open bench, still nothing. Oh well. Will just tell them to buy a mini PC or something. Since this was my old PC and it was a huge tower with a 1070 and they dont need all that for just browsing the internet. It was 10+ years old, so got a lot out of it.

Thanks for answering.

Chromebook, it's where all old people end up. One day you'll be on one, to attend your mandatory reeducation classes and play RuneScape 5.

For next time things like this come up, you might want to pick up https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Support-Connector-Voltage-AC-069-OO1NAN-A1/dp/B0CZ2YF2FR

I have the previous version. $50 and more than worth it to test PSUs. Especially if you think it could have fried much more expensive hardware.

Hey, some do end up with ipads. One or the other are my go to recommendation for old people computers.

Was gonna say, get them an Android tablet, they are cheaper (no i-tax) and play nice with PC's. I recently bought a Samsung tab 9 w/ the pen and I love it.

i have a bunch of firehd's, i really like the firemax

it's metal so it feels like a real tablet and not a plastic toy

if you have an old tablet you don't want or even an old alex, you can slap that on for 20% off and if you wait for a sale (like thxgiving, etc)

you can come off w/ big discounts

then you just follow a guide and download a few apk to get google play store on there

I got a Galaxy Tab S10+ a few months ago and it's great, but I would still recommend an ipad over one for old folks. The android ecosystem for tablets is better that it used to be, but ipads still have them beat for ease of use and compatibility.

yeah I thought about that after I typed it. Androids let me do what I want , iPads do what it allows you to do but it is easy for older peeps to pick up.
