That would be a bios setting I think?, fairly sure fast boot is disabled

Anyway, it's been stable all afternoon, first streaming soccer now streaming on twitch

I also think it boots up quicker and Windows seems quicker without the SATA drives plugged in, but could be a placebo effect
you got boot plugged into sata3?

usually boards are sata0 sata1 are sata3(datarate) and all the others sata2-6 are sata2(datarate)

maybe you crossed some streams and had it plugged into sata 4, double check it's on sata0

My pc was pre built with the nvme boot SSD and a standard WD drive, I added a HD from my old PC

Just plugged the WD in and according to bios it's on SATA 4.

Do the two SATA drives need to be on SATA 0 and 1 even if they're not boot drives?

Edit: might as well leave the first SATA drive plugged in and see what happens

It's a windows 10 "feature". To speed up boot times when you hit shut down it doesn't fully shut down the computer and instead puts it in hibernate. It's in the advanced section of the power and sleep options.

Ok thanks. It was set to shut down not hibernate.

I'll see how I get one with just the nvme and newest SATA drive plugged in

just do your nvme boot up drive

It was on just the nvme all day and stable.

Since your post about ports I've had one SATA plugged in and seems ok.

If I plug the next SATA in and start getting problems then presumably there's a fault with that drive (which makes sense as it's the oldest) but then both my SATA drives just hold my movies/tv no installed programs so not sure why it would crash Windows or cause the nvme drive to intermittently disappear

So perhaps the psu is failing and can't power the system sufficiently with all three drives plugged in?

be quiet! is a reputable brand. They do products based around keeping noise levels low in things like fans etc...

Yep, I ordered it through a place that specialises in quiet computers, it's mostly used as a living room media pc, the only game installed is dota 2, which is why I can unplug both storage drives without missing anything lol

Embarrassing question, but after messing around with my dual monitors to test my second screen an issue has popped up that I cannot recall how I resolved years ago, probably just a simple setting somehwere. My second monitor is to the right of my main monitor, and before today, I could move the mouse to the right and have it appear on the second monitor. Now I have to move the mouse to the left to get it (and any app windows) to appear on the second monitor. What is the setting to change the "edge"?

Edit: Fixed, just had to swap the position of the monitors in display settings.

Not placebo. If drives are plugged into the sata controller it has to waste cycles engaging the controller and reading the drives, with no drives connected it skips all those steps, saving a few seconds (8-15+).

Anyone have experience with your displays showing up as 1 below max refresh rates in multiple situations? Windows and DisplayFusion are showing my 144hz monitors as 143hz, while Nvidia control panel & the Windows menu to set refresh show 144hz. On top of this, I'm getting some slight fluctuations in frametimes even when it's a constant FPS. Dropping the refresh on both to 120 then introduces the same issue, but with them showing up as 119hz

My guess is the refresh rate is coming in as a float at like 143.9999 and your programs are displaying a truncated version. Can't say mine does that though.

That's my thought as well. I was only concerned about it due to some issues I've been having with fluctuating frame rates and frame times even when vsync is on, or capped in-game. Things have been jittery and weird for some time now, but I rolled all the way back to 385.69 yesterday and things are smooth as silk.

Check dns. If you can ping 8.8.8.8 it’s probably a dns issue. You can set your dns manually to 8.8.8.8 (googles dns).

Has anyone seen a frame rate graph like this before?

graph.PNG

Something is causing frametime to spike by 100% (~7ms to ~14ms) and not use 100% of the GPU (seems to cap out around 90%) in loaded situations. Staring at the ground or a skybox allows for the entire GPU to be used and the spikes go away. But, the constant spiking can happen at 100% gpu usage at times as well.

This is happening on several of the latest Nvidia drivers, but isn't on the old 385.69. (1080ti)

Problem persists across Win 7 & 10, and other games.

The screen is from DA:Inq which is also resulting in a ~10 fps loss from the newer drivers compared to the much older ones due to something throttling the gpu down to ~90%

Edit: Also, this is WoW set to max render scale just to get it to use the GPU:
