I think given the FFA nature of the Dregs, the winners should be determined not by the organization you're in but the ingame prowess you demonstrate during the campaign. How do you do this? I dunno.
This is where my doubts come in. So many games in recent memory have tried to tally a score for PvP, which is often problematic and turns PvP from mere survival to a sport (you're no longer fighting in back alleys, but in a ring). Some people like this, sure, but I find it doesn't seem to reward fairly or accurately, and takes too much away from my personal motivation (which is to kill and survive, not to earn points). But I also recognize the days of having in-game reputation between players and simply pvping to survive and be able to play the game at all isn't a tangible enough victory and has too much bad press.

So I don't know either. My hope was that EK was as they said: a trophy room. But, you had to earn those trophies in the Campaigns. Your guild want a castle? Build one in a campaign and if it's standing by the end people will respect the accomplishment and you'll get to have that castle in your EK. Stuff like that, that is still hard to balance, but is at least directly linking campaign accomplishments and the EK.

Instead, I fear we'll see a system where you're basically just slap fighting in campaigns to earn points, high score means the larger percentage of mats go to the winners, etc. Your accomplishment is getting a high score, not standing over the corpses of your enemies.

In the end, when you're fighting for very survival itself, there's motivation to push on. When you're fighting for a score, there's less motivation and people try to find ways to exploit the system for points or just give up on that 'match' knowing there will be another soon.

Summary for Vitality: I fear EK's will be some some pussy ass shit, and campaigns weakened because of it, turning the game into a 'match' where you exploit/abuse the system for max points to pad your score and be declared the match winner to earn artificial rewards like mats to build unearned/unchallenging Disney Castles that are of no consequence. Doesn't get my blood flowing for some "pvp" that's for sure.

They actually have more KS backers but less $ per backer.
I imagine the number of failed and canceled Kickstarters have people more gunshy about putting up as much money, too. That new car smell done worn off.
Could be. I think CU was able to monetize better than CF. Maybe I didn't pay as much attention to it, but it seemed like people thought that paying into the KS for CU would guarantee a alpha/beta slot that would be very limited, where as with CF they seem completely up front with the idea that anyone can buy into alpha at any time.

It also seemed like the land rewards they had for CU are more valuable than the equivalent EK ones because they exist in the legitimate game world. I don't think this is a real downside or mark against CF, they're just less able to monetize the rewards. This will continue to be a problem for their bottom line, but I feel like the primary people responsible are trying to build a legacy-game rather than make a ton of money.

I wasn't as happy with this interview as the last one. But it's kind of hard to direct a 3 person interview interviewing three people and I personally missed a few points I wanted to get on. Got some good stuff out of it though. I think the show overall was fantastic though, especially after last nights great show. We hit about 500 viewers or more when you combine streaming on twitch and hitbox.

I liked that Thomas Blair was on. He was able to talk about some more specific mechanic choices, rather than bigger design theory that J Todd Coleman specializes in.

Good job overall! Hopefully you can get them back on every so often. Would be neat to get some other developers too, like Billy Garretsen (UI Designer) and possibly even some art folks.

Thanks Teekey! It's always great to be able to talk shop.

Draegan felt like you were trying to keep us on track so much we missed some questions too. Like when you said lets talk about the beginning of a campaign and then jumped to Lakez who asked a completely different question.

This is exactly why I stopped following this game. It's too much like GW2. I don't want to PvP for points, I want PvP to be organic and just part of the game itself. That's why I feel these games need PvE. No because I dislike PvP, but because PvP just for the sake of PvP is really boring. If PvP actually has a meaning (like fighting for the best PvE areas/dungeons/resources in the game) it becomes an integral part of the game, and not just first to 50.

Yeah, I had to organize everyone's points into one timeline and sometimes things got jumped. I tried to being it back to the topic later on.

I'd like to do it again soon when the KS rush is over.

I 100% agree with your Tera comments. I played a lancer to cap and put up with the terrible zerg swarms killing the world bosses for T13 gear.

In the end I quit over the terrible +gooderer weapon enhancement RNG system that all Korean mmo's love to put in.

But that combat was fantastic and what kept me playing so long.

That's also my feeling tbh. I'm still a backer but I'm not as on-board as I was during the beginning. Without PvE, we essentially have a Planetside 2 where a "winner" gets more points for his personal housing instance. Still good if the gameplay is fun, but not exactly what I hoped it would be.

Regarding the kickstarter, did they have articles on gamig news websites at all? I dont read any of the mainstream sites so I wouldnt know, but that would certainly bring some money through the sheer amount of exposure. Pantheon and CU had those I think (not that it helped the former). Maybe it's just my impression but compared to CU, SotA and Pantheon:rofl they feel low profile.

Does anyone ever remember the Wolfpack team taking shots at Mythic during SB development or at any time ? According to some people it happen.

I'm not sure if anyone has asked them this, but I wonder if they are looking and designing it from an esports angle. If true that yea, it's not really all that different from PS2 or GW2. I'm still backing it but I do feel that it's never going to have this immersive 'world' feel like a typical MMORPG. Now to their credit they've been completely upfront about that but I get that sense that's not what everyone wants.
