Beat first boss and my total death count was only at 70... I'm a great player, obviously.

Anyone ordering from Amazon have an actual ship date? Ordered it last monday(I know I really should have gotten around to doing that earlier) and it's been stuck at "We'll email you when we have a ship date" under my status all week.

This game not having animation cancels is making me want to break my fucking desk
I thought you could in DS2, for long animations like back stab/pulling a lever ect? (Because you're no longer invincible during it.)

Or are you talking about for normal swings? I always liked the the lack of animation cancelling in DS1--it turned a twitch game into more of a strategy game. Instead of rewarding faster reactions, it rewarded anticipation and planning, which I loved (But I like slower strategy games more). I was worried about the changes in DS2 to that system.

Of course it doesn't have animation cancelling. Timing is the key to combat, which is why it punishes you for being greedy (trying to get that extra swing) or rushing.

I'm not saying I wish it had animation canceling, I'm just saying that it can cause rage at times.

10 hours in and I haven't cleared an entire area yet. I keep going back and forth mainly due to frustration.

Been playing this game since Thursday night - loving the hell out of it. My only concern so far: The bosses don't seem to be very difficult. I chose deprived, and my build consists of a tower shield with 100% phys. block, and a +4 Heide Sword. I've only struggled on one boss so far, and after about 6 attempts I was able to down her as well. If there is, in fact, 34 bosses; I figure I have about 24 more to go - and that makes me happy

Since this has leaked out pretty heavily, can we keep it very spoiler free until after the release. I like to read about the game but nothing that will taint the game come playtime. If you are going to post specific stuff please spoiler it.

Since dieing over and over seems to be a generally bad thing now, I don't have a problem with that. What about the normal enemies, is blocking until you get attacked, then one swift counter attack still the safest and easiest way of killing them?

Yep, I tend to do the dance around their backside with my shield out, and capitalize with a backstab or at least a swing or two once i dodge. Dont get me wrong, the game is everything I could've hoped for in a sequel to Demons/Dark souls....and actually - I just encountered another PITA boss I cannot beat. Im just worried I'm getting close to beating it, as my travel locations are all highlighted except for one (Unless there's a second page that unlocks once needed). Went in blind, so I have no clue what cool weapons I can make with all these boss souls I obtained.

Question for anyone playing:

Without spoiling too much, is there any bosses that reward you for cutting off their limbs/tails like the last game? I made sure I cut both of the tails off the scorpion chick before I killed her, and I didn't get anything special. Hoping therer are a couple of bosses with that incentive, even if it's just a cool looking gimmick-of-a weapon.

Well, that might be due to you being a veteran of Demon/Dark souls. First time I tried Demon Souls I died so much that I gave up on the game for a long time. Got Dark Souls, got addicted, and when I tried Demon souls again after I had finished Dark Souls, I did several worlds and bosses without dying. Initial bosses of Dark Souls aren't really difficult either (now). The "stay between the legs of the boss" is a valid tactic you learn fast (the hard way), but is usable by quite a few bosses in the games.

Ended up spoiling the game a bit for myself by watching a few lets plays of the initial parts of the game. The videos I've seen all make me want to play it more because people don't play the way I want them to

People seem to miss so much stuff. Only talking to NPCs once, not exploring. Don't really feel spoiled watching them, as much as excited to explore the way I want (Hit every wall, jump down every hole!).

Most seem to play melee, but came across this guy today who is playing a magic user.

Magic really seems to trivialize a lot of the early encounters. Aggro range seems shorter too, mobs don't seem to follow very far. Think the game would turn quite a bit more difficult if they did what MMOs do and reset the HP once you pull them too far from their spawn. That way you can't use the tactic the guy does in the video of pulling them to aggro range and blasting them in the back as they walk away. I don't think that would be entirely unreasonable.

Yeah, I can hardly resist clicking on this thread, but I don't really want any spoilers. Maybe console people can keep their game specific comments in tags - considering pc has a while yet to wait. But I can just learn some willpower.

True.....and I'm sure i'll make a 2nd character to attempt a dual wield build......game is still sick, and brutally unforgiving.

Starting swordsman and dual wielding from the beginning was a mistake, I was too rusty. Sword and board is much easier. I'm now level 53, 17 hours in (multiple hours afk) but still only one "major" boss killed. I have four or so boss souls and still have yet to be able to use them. I've found the blacksmith but not the ember for upgrades yet.

Awesome game. Maybe my favorite of the three so far.

Confirmed that heavy rolls are >70% equip weight.

Ring to increase hollow hp location:
Heide's Tower, go left at the 3-spawn and continue to the draw bridge. It will be at the top after you pull the lever to lower it. Don't go into the fog

So, thought I had lost all savegames for Dark Souls since I reformatted my HD before I remembered to backup my saves, but I had one save on the PS+ online thing.

Problem I have now is that I don't know what I have done or not. I remember I finished all of it, but the savegame I have now my character is Level 92, 69 hours in. However, I don't know what I am missing. The fire with the snake thing is lit, but the door isn't open. I went to Anor Londo, and saw that I still hadn't killed Gwendolyn. Is there any in game tracker of what you have done? I don't know what souls I have/have not used. Running to every boss to see if I have killed them or not sounds really tedious.
