Yhorm is easy even solo, if you know about the weapon. He is slow enough to get good distance and use a variety of tactics on. I am having the same issue as Kruegan with the dragon, but I am practicing fast switching to and from 2h with the MLGS to get good damage on that guy. Honestly, the camera bullshit is the thing that makes that fight hard. If I could see the fucking monster and read the tells, I would have dropped him by now.

Most of my problems with bosses in this game are "I CANT SEE SHIT"

That Old Demon boss I was basically looking at his nutsack the whole time

Yeah, definitely don't lock onto to anything during dragon stage. The hardest part was learning which 'flight' was flame breath and which was just him flying around like an asshole, but the simple solution is to just assume it's death from above every time. I think the roar the dragon makes while taking off is the key to knowing what he's about to do, but I beat him before I was sure about that. The crackle of lightning telegraphs the worst moves NK himself does while on the dragon too.

And I definitely did not know what I was doing with the weapon. I beat Yhorm before I realized you could charge it and let go of L2 to move around freely, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with my dozen or so failures.

That was another weird area. I died more times to the miniboss on the way to Smoldering Lake than I did to the boss at the end of it. And the fucking worm literally just attacks the air in front of it if you come from the bonfire behind, to the point where it's practically impossible to take damage at all during the fight.

Used Dark Souls as an example in one of my classes last week about how difficulty can make things more memorable and interesting. This morning I had 6 students all talking about Dark Souls, with 3 of them being new players and ranting about how impossible and frustrating it was. Love it.

The miniboss I weirdly one-shot, but the demon boss took me like 6 attempts or so. The worm I killed on the way out after fully exploring the smouldering lake caves.. which was very weird. It seems like theyj ust cut off the smouldering lake at the end. Like you get the FUGS, go across the bridge, fight a black knight and then a cave in and that's it. Felt like there was supposed to be more. Maybe DLC will be there.

For the worm I just kept attacking and everytime I heard the woosh of the ballista I just did a few dodges left and right.

When I first played DS1 I couldn't believe how hard the normal hollow mobs were. I firmly believed the game unbeatable.

What a sweet summer child I was.

You never shut off the ballista? That's the point of the area behind the black knight. What pissed me off was that I shut it off, then realized there was a ring hidden behind a wall that only the ballista could break, so I had to go all way back up there, turn it on, go back down to the lake and get it to break the wall, THEN RUN ALL THE WAY BACK AND SHUT IT OFF AGAIN. At least the final run up there was through a cleared zone, but it's still a goddamn hike.

Heh, download the Nioh demo if you want to relive that experience. It's basically Ninja Gaiden difficulty in a Souls-esque world. Downside is that the controls are completely different, and I spent most of my time fighting against that more than the enemies. Other than that it looks pretty promising.

The Corvian Greatknife is really cool. Picked it up on a new character and it puts in serious work. Can't wait to see what it does at higher levels!

Huh.. is there a switch or something? At the end of the bridge it was just a cave in and I didn't see anything. I might've overlooked it because I saw no way out. Also at that point the ballista no longer mattered.

There's a pair of ladders that take you up to the ballista. Not much in the way of loot up there, except between the two ladders there's the best bow in the game.

Not much sadly, it doesn't look like there's a single infusion that scales better than D even at +10.

I actually arrow cheesed the lightning worm (and most of the Demon mini bosses) and cleared the demon boss before I ever even touched the caves under Smoldering Lake. There is a lot of shit in this game that you can make easy with a bow. And Demon Souls basically toughened me up for everything that followed. The flying island area was, for my money, the hardest thing in any of the FROM games until the DLC blizzard area in DS2 came along. The only are in this game that compared to DeS in this game for me was the opening run after the frozen dog boss on the bridge, that others have bitched about here. That area was seriously fucked.

Few people have told me the PvP is awesome in this game and I'm just not seeing it. I've been invaded by one competent player since release and the rest have been total scrubs. Invading hasn't been any better really as most of the people suck and the invader tends to have a rather large advantage most times.

I'm starting to think people just enjoy mopping up the PVE players because there hasn't been much of anything else that I've seen. I've heard about summoning rooms and such, that holds a bit more promise but the general PvP in this game is pretty bad.

What PVP/summon level are you?

Most hid behind NPCs and chugged their estus dry like faggots because greatshield + straight sword is > katanas and stupid hats.

I spent most "PVP" trying to ditch aggro mobs.

I assume they mean straight sword nerfs, dual wielded straight sword nerfs, and spell buffs?

EDIT: Oh, dagger buff supposedly. Sunlight SS safe.
