DayZ is a blast if you have a decent group to play with. I usually play on the BMRF(http://bmrf.me/) servers they have a good community of people. You have to get whitelisted to play on them too, which gets rid of most script kids.
Oh man, that's too awesome. I remember our group met up with a friend of a friend that we had just recently met. The dude had a ghili suit and some military weaps (this was before dupes were really around so ghili's were super rare). We ended up getting a bus running and were at the NE airfield. We stopped the bus and he relogged for some reason, and since the bus never moved he ended up logging back in under the bus and immediately breaks his leg/gets crushed. One of the worst things with DayZ was breaking your leg tripping over a fricken twig. I remember being geared to hell, at 10k+ health and breaking my leg from 1 zombie hit.
They changed the 1hit break/knock out in a patch. It's based on current health now (if above 60% or so you can't get 1 hit). I think they might have claimed that change in a few patches but did not get it working until later.
Still lots of weird shit happening if you log in/out while in vehicles though. And I have broken my leg 2-3 times in the last couple weeks just walking around so that bug's still in.

My best DayZ story was the one where it took days getting insane gear and had just spent an hour getting to this one location where I could pick people off in elektro. My plans were foiled when I stumbled upon a bicycle someone had hidden in the bushes. I didn't even think twice. I just hopped on the bike and ripped it through the middle of town - ringing the bell. People were taking shots at me the whole time, and I didn't care. I HAD A BIKE!

I tried their server last night. A lot of spawn camping going on. Not that it's difficult to spawn and rush a different town but plenty of assholes despite the whitelisting. Do they have more than on Origins server?
Quick share - If anyone is using DayZ Commander there is a weird issue that basically crashes your internet connection (as far as I understand it actually crashes your router). If your connection goes out when you are refreshing server lists, you need to go in the settings and turn down the number of allowed connections. It will slow down the refresh somewhat but not to a terrible degree.

With a counter that goes down until you "die". And maybe up when you eat a brain.
That would be a nice touch.
New favorite DayZ story is headshotting a guy at 400 meters with an enfield and getting the kid's M107, DMR, full kit including rangefinder, coyote backpack, night vision, etc. etc. etc. Kid was threatening rape, murder, ban for supposed aimbotting and a call to the FBI. Still haven't figured out what the charges would be.
That, or getting in an epic battle above Stary, murdering successive waves of people coming back for the corpses, and the random noob who got blown up when he rode in on a tractor to try and collect all the loot after finding out about the battle. Poor little guy, he got so close.

DayZ epoch has a zombie infection feature supposedly. Haven't experienced it yet, but people are telling me that you can die or get infected from a bite (not sure which), and you respawn as a zombie that can allegedly summon other zombies. Too bad the epoch servers seem to be mostly ghost towns and/or buggy as shit.
