I've been playing on Origins the past week and I'm hooked again. Origins made some really awesome changes to the game and seems like their anti-hack code is solid. Refreshing playing on a new map with a lot more vehicles too.

What's the population like on your server? On BMRF (50+ people almost all the time I think) finding boats or cars (not even gonna mention helicopters) is a bitch.

Our server caps at 36, and in the evenings it usually sits pretty close to that. Lowest I ever really see it is 20-ish. It's called The Honey Badger.

I've had a blast playing Origins over the past couple weeks. The mod and Taviana map are awesome, but I think I'm done playing. Died 4 times over the past 2 days due to glitches/bugs/lag, fully decked out with gear. We've probably spent 10-15 hours over the last week just recovering from getting fucked over by glitches, and it's getting too frustrating. Vehicles desynching and dropping/killing people in random places, randomly exploding, helicopters all of a sudden showing up as inoperable after landing in open fields on islands and ejecting you when you change seats while flying. It's just too irritating to play what otherwise is an awesome mod.

Well at least it's recognizing Origins. I had some trouble early on and I think what fixed it was a manual wipe and install of Battle Eye and the beta patch. It's pretty quick to try.

Also I think origins still needs the 2nd to last beta patch, not the latest (ends in 419 i think). Make sure that's what shows up in commander.

For all of you that have quit out of disgust, I suggest maybe trying to tough it in the newest vanilla version. Zombies are genuinely challenging now with the increased risk of infection, knockdown, and the absolute scarcity of antibiotics. The removal of the one shot rifles is pretty nice, too. I hadn't played in weeks, but gave it another shot last night on a 48/50 person US server. I'll relate my epic tale of survival, woe, ZTD's (zombie transmitted diseases) and mass murder.

It started on the shore, as it usually does, between Cherno and Elektro. I immediately rushed to the barns to equip myself, as I was already hearing gunshots in the distance. No dice in any of the barns, save for the stash of 3(!!!!) antibiotics sitting in the corner of one of the long barns. Antibiotics are like solid fucking gold nowadays and I didn't want to lose them, but there didn't really seem to be any safe places around and I was already dangerously close to Cherno with no food, water, backpack, or even a goddamned hatchet/crowbar. So I said fuck it and sprinted for the cafe on the outskirts of town. Nothing except a can of beans, an enfield mag, and a bible. I'll take it. I make my way further into town, strafing constantly to avoid the dickheads doubtlessly scoping me already. Turns out my caution was warranted, some asshole with an enfield is already shooting at me. He's a terrible shot, but dangerously close, but I figure he might just get himself killed with half the city of zombies chasing him now. I make for the hospital tents and he finally nails me. Shit.

Next spawn, even closer to cherno. Run for a barn again and praise jebus, an enfield. Decide to go get some payback on the offchance dickhead's still at my corpse. He's not, but it's still there and unfortunately I've gathered quite the horde of zombies on the way. I make for the closest tent to juke them and lo and behold, who do I find staring at a pile of bandages? Douchebag McEnfieldstein. I say "PSST" over direct and shoot him in the face, loot my goddamned bible and antibiotics and bump the fuck out. Armed with the gospel, 3 enfield mags, every tool I could need, a czech backpack, and an astounding 7 cans of beans and 5 cokes, I set out to get the fuck out of cherno ASAP and head for berezino. As I'm leaving, I take a hit from a zombie. Infected immediately. 1 antibiotic later, I'm good to go, with 2 left. As I'm making my way through the forest towards Berezino, I hear two dudes talking over direct. 2 ghillie guys, one with an m4a3 and a PDW and another with an enfield (???). They don't notice me and I shoot one of them in the stomach, who falls over dead. The other combat logs. I loot the m4 and PDW, the spare ghillie he had in his backpack (ghillie hoarders?) and am about to leave when I'm struck by another zombie. Infected again, goddamnit. 1 antibiotic left now. No antibiotics on the dead guy, but he did have morphine, painkillers, bandages, etc. Feeling pretty good at this point, I continue on to Berezino.

Get there, it's a ghost town like it usually is, and I get the run of the place, but there's no loot worth having. Continue on to Krashno before hitting NEAF, and looking for a stupid cantine and accidentally going prone, I take a bunch of hits from zombies, break a leg, and get infected. I kill off the horde in the market, patch myself up, and use my last antibiotic. Shit. Infection rate is pretty high in the new patch, but this is just horrible luck. It is nowhere near this common. Oh well, will just have to be careful from now on.

Get to NEAF, find an SVD with 4 mags on a bugged standing ghillie corpse and some SD rounds for my m4 and a frag grenade. Righteous. I'm running low on water, so I idiotically drink from my non-boiled cantine. Try to interrupt the drink but it's too late. FUCKING INFECTED AFJIOWEAJ:LEFJF:EAJKFSDSF. Check the corpse again, no antibiotics. Fuck, fuck. Blood loss rate with infection seems cruelly rapid now, so I'm getting very anxious about my chances for survival. Make my way back to Berezino hoping that maybe I'll find some antibiotics in the hospital, and near Krashno I get shot by some noob with a double barrel from a relatively insane distance, and unfortunately pass out with 2-3 zombies on me. The timer is short, so I wake back up after they break my leg and kill them off, expecting at any minute to be shot in the face from aforementioned noob. I hurriedly use my last morphine and patch up, and see dude is trying to loot the market. Turns out, he used his last shotgun round on me and is frantically looking for anything to finish me off with. I sneak up behind him and pop him in the back of the head. He had literally nothing but a can of beans and a hunting knife. No idea how he made it all the way to Krashno with that shit.

I'm dangerously low blood now and I have to eat my remaining food just to deal with the blood loss from infection. It doesn't really help. I keep heading for Berezino, murdering any stray wildlife I can find just to replace the blood I'm losing and get myself to above half blood. I've got to do something quick, the infection is going to kill me one way or another. I get to the outskirts, decide to hit the military tents first thinking maybe there will be a player corpse with some antibiotics. Scope out the area first and notice aggro way up by the apartment buildings. It's some guy with a british assault pack and a CZ550, so I'm hoping he's decently geared, and praying he's got some antibiotics, or at least some animal meat.

I set up in a field with my SVD and wait. He takes his sweet fucking time looting random houses and trying to sneak around zombies, failing badly. Finally, finally, he starts to approach the military tents (which I'm about 300m from). I notice he's been hit and bleeding, so I wait for him to bandage. While he's trying to do damage control, I destroy his face with the SVD. I'm way below half blood now. No antibiotics, but a bunch of beans and some goat meat. I gobble it all down and get above half blood and even snag some morphine. Nothing in the military tents, and I'm about to go to the hospital when I notice more aggro! At the base of the hospital! The fuck? There's a dude on the roof with an AK looking at something, which I'm hoping is antibiotics. I shoot him in the stomach and he dies, but I take some hits from zombies who aggro from the SVD shot. Low blood again. Clamber up the ladder and see the guy was looking at goddamn empty tin cans and of course has no antibiotics. Things are desperate now. I take more hits trying to get down the ladder and have lost all color and am shaking. No way I can make it even to the next town without dying from blood loss. Check the tent near the hospital in the vain hope that there will be, well you know. There's an M14 with 2 mags. Never have I been more angry to find my favorite gun. Market is empty and I have to kill doctor zombies and their undead patients hoping they have antibiotics or cans of food. Fucking empty tin cans and painkillers. Passing out every 30 seconds or so now.

And there my poor bandit of circumstance remains. I just logged, knowing I'm probably at 500 blood or less, ridiculously geared out but utterly unable to save myself. And there I will wait until I get one of my friends to come rescue my sorry ass. Overall though, I was happy with the session. Just about all my actions after a certain point were done purely out of necessity to just fucking stay alive. No PVPing out of boredom, no lootwhoring, no obsession with getting the best gear possible. Best way to play, IMO, and that's why I can't even fault the ridiculous infection rate because it forces people to, you know, focus on surviving in a zombie apocalypse survival game.

Plus, it completely absolves me of the sins of banditry.

"When it's done."

I think it was supposed to come out of closed alpha/beta/whatever sometime last month, but that didn't happen.

At this point, I'm pretty down on the stand alone as it still is essentially ARMA2. The animations are just wretched. Just horrible. Seeing animations (and lighting) in ARMA3 make me long for the stand alone to be on that engine.

That's fine on the "when it's done" comment, just seems like all news just stopped. There for awhile we were getting updates or comments or dev videos about once a week.

That's very interesting Disp, I might have to check that out.

So my friends and I got griefed pretty bad by the admins and a bunch of people last weekend on the server we had been playing on. One of my friends decided he was sick of getting screwed over by shit admins, so he bought an Origins server that we started up yesterday. If anyone is interested in checking out DayZ or Origins, you should check out our server. Origins is an amazing mod and is ridiculously fun, and we're active players. Only thing we need now is people to populate the server. With Origins there is no central hive, so characters, vehicles, and houses are saved on the specific server. Origins is on the Taviana map, which is better in every way than the standard Chernarus map.

In DayzCommander search for the Origins server #AOW Tequilasunrise. I'll get the IP for it later this evening too, but it's a brand new server as of yesterday without anything established, so everything is free pickings.

I just started watching twitch.TV summit1g dayz streams and I'm a bit confused. Why are people donating money to watch other people play video games?

People get whole computers built and make a living by playing a game and streaming it. Half these people aren't even any good, they just pay attention to the lonely people in the chat rooms and talk to them.
