Heres the problem. He's mixing imagery, characters for a storyline that doesn't fit. like, some of the usual suspects are complaining about Superman sitting around, looking tired, bored, and not leaping to action. and the dark drab coloring. also wrong S.

the pose, etc is clearly referencing All star superman. The entire origin of that story was Grant seeing a tired construction worker taking a break.

The monster in the sky is clearly Solaris the Tyrant sun. from.. all star superman, and DC one million. (all star is a prequel to dc one million)

All Star Superman is the best Superman story of all time. its top 5 comic book stories all time in general.
This storyline and imagery do not mesh with Whats so funny. stealing these foes, and imagery for that inferiot story is stupid, and mixes themes/metaphors.
this is the same problem with the wrong S. thats the Kingdom come S with yellow instead of black. Iconography matters.

This problem is going to be compounded.

"whats so funny with truth, justice, and the American way" didn't understand The Authority in the first place. it didn't tell its story well either. Superman beats the Elite with might makes right, not with his actual values anyway...

To make things worse, they merged Wildstorm and DC. so now, suddenly the Elite and The Authority both exist. The Authority's characters all get rewritten to fit into DC proper, which ruins them all. This stupid movie is now merging and rewriting them even more. totally shitting on everything that makes those characters who they are.

Superfriends was wildly popular when I was a kid. There was already Batman of course, Wonder Woman, Shazaam for a time and that old Superman tv show played on reruns. But put all of that and more into one show against all their arch enemies in a fight to save the Earth. Holy shit, all us kids were watching that on Saturday mornings. Before we would go outside to ride bikes or play ball, we had to see what Lex Luthor was up to and how Supes and his nukkas would stop him. It was easily the most anticipated tv show of my childhood. If Gunn can pull off Superfriends in a way that brings back some of that childhood wonder, then it won't be so bad that he fired that adorable sweetheart, Gal to do it.

Very surprising that they went with a white Green Lantern when the animated show had a black one. After looking up who Guy Gardener even was, it also said John Stuart has always been black, so no race swap would even be needed. Does that hint at who is going to get killed in one of the first movies?

Stewart is fine he's just a very one dimensional character, I liked Kyle but a lot of fans hated him but I think that might be because he was OP

He was good but, yeah, once he became a White Lantern stuff went a little off the rails. Especially the whole Volthoom storyline.

Guy has probably had some of the most development and despite being an asshole at the start became a real fan favourite. Totally agree on Stewart, maybe I didn’t read enough of his stuff but he seems very one-dimensional.
