Depends what you value. I prefer more beautiful images to motion quality in almost every game I play. But you're right. If I played an FPS or MOBA competitively then perhaps I'd care about 120hz.There is literally no comparing the gameplay experience of 40fps vs 120fps in a first person shooter of any kind. Fuck, even D3 plays unbelievably better at 120 fps. I don't play MOBAs but I assume they'd be the same.
The only thing where FPS doesn't matter that much are MMOs, because their UIs are generally scripted less efficiently than the renderer so the input speed is not directly linked to rendering speed.
Presumably there is some reason you aren't looking at IB-E 6c/12t or waiting for HW-E? Or ECC RAM (and Xeons)? Do you need full FP64/CUDA performance (if so, why 780) and that much GPU power (even $100 discrete can drive 3 or 4 monitors for desktop use)?I've been asked to assemble a computer for work that will be used for scientific stimulus presentation & control. Basically I've been asked to put together a beastly computer with a $2500 budget (monitors etc not included, just the stuff that goes in the box) that needs to be able to drive 3-4 monitors at once off ONE video card (2x cards won't be OK). I priced some parts out @ Newegg, but I'm really out of my element here. I realize SSD only @ 1 TB is a big cost, but the argument for it is better reliability over spinning metal as failures rack up other costs very quickly. I measured the computer it will be replacing at 18x18x8 inches so something in that range for size would be nice for a case. It would also be a plus if it WASN'T gaudy (plain is better). A hardware sound card is required for the applications it will be used for, but I know nothing about them at all (Haven't had one since the 90s).
Processor: Core i7-4790K 4.0 GHz LGA 1150 339.99
Motherboard: ASUS Z97-PRO LGA 1150 187.99
RAM: 32 GB (4x8GB) PIN DDR3 2133MHz 319.99
CASE: ???
SSD: SanDisk Extreme Pro 960GB 599.95
GPU: NVIDIA/EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB 589.99
BLU RAY / DVD: LG Black Blu-Ray Drive 49.99
SOUND CARD: ???
PSU: EVGA 750W 80+Gold Modular 114.99
That is $2200 so far without a case or sound card. Where can I improve?
Thanks. I'm thinking of buying it to go with my rift dk2 so I can have enough horsepower to chug through everyone's shitty unoptimized demos (including my own).I would wait.
This GPU cycle is all fucked up, and the 880s getting released in October are still on 28nm. Rumour has it that there will be a GTX 880 v1 & v2, with v2 being released early 2015 on 20nm. If you don't have a game worth upgrading for this fall, it's almost certainly worth holding out 6 months in this case.
Ugh, I don't like hearing this. The LMB/RMB are unresponsive and sloppy and the thumb buttons are too sensitive and poorly placed.
The cord is high quality, and the scroll wheel is nice though.
It could just be me. It got very positive reviews.Ugh, I don't like hearing this.
