No, my key wasn't the one on that site.

EDIT: It seems it was a misunderstanding, the seller issued that key twice and offered a brand new valid key in it's place.

Not super on-topic, but what do you guys use for a computer chair? I'm using some piece of junk I got at a Best Buy like 4 years ago and I can't actually stand to sit on it anymore. Anyone have any experience with those gaming chairs? They look stupid as shit but the internet claims they are comfy at least.

I have a luxury problem, I have no idea what to use my xmas bonus on. I basically have ~$500 (whatever one of the 2 major consoles costs) to spend at an electronics store... but there isn't really anything I want or need. I was THINKING about upgrading my GTX760 to a GTX970 (assuming it fits in my case)... but I built this computer only a little over a year ago, and am not entirely keen on replacing ~1/3 of its value so soon.

Thoughts? Is it worth it?

Edit: Alternatively I could probably put that money towards a 980 and kick in the rest. Is the price/performance between the 2 worth the cost?

Why types of games do you play? What resolution is your monitor? Those questions will determine if its worth it. If you play FPS where horsepower matters, a GTX 970/980 will be a HUGE upgrade over what you have and run at higher resolutions. If you play MMOs, those tend to be CPU bound and don't require the massive GPU grunt.

my monitor is 1920x1200, mostly everything (aside from sports and racing games). I would say I probably tend to play FPS's less overall because I play a few of the single player ones and overall am not a big fan of AAA games. However, there are a few games that I have sunk hundreds of hours into that might benefit from the horsepower (Rome 2, Borderlands, X:Rebirth).

It might all be moot though, I have an SG05 case and it seems none of the better 970s (nevermind the 980s) will fit in my case, even the shortest of them, the MSI, is about 7mm too long.

Don't get a 980. The 50% additional price is not worth the 10% (at best) more performance over a 970.

That being said, I love my 970, but I also game at 1440p. I would estimate that the 970 would be darn near double the performance of your 760. The 970 is a hell of a card for $350 or so.

I'm looking for a budget GPU upgrade for my GTX 560 Ti. I just rebuilt my system last week. Everything is new but the monitor and GPU. I'd like to keep things in the 200-300 range. Here's the rest of the build:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ender4212/saved/wH2BD3

Suggestions?
G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
$77.99 -$11.69 FREE $66.30 Newegg

Double it. Your board can support up to 32GB and on Win 7 you should be using 8GB as a minimum even if it is possible to run less. If buying more of anything aim for 12-16GB's.

A 560 TI is fine for a budget but a Geforce GTX 760/770 is a decent upgrade in the $200 - $300 range. If you want anything more then that then you're looking at significant price jumps.

Yes, I plan to....but right now I'm asking about a GPU upgrade. Also, running 8.1.
If your budget is truly $200-$300, then just spring for a 970

PNY VCGGTX9704XPB GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card - Newegg.com

30 more bucks and its a LOT more card than anything you would buy for $200-$250. Honestly, if you can't quite afford $330, then I'd just keep using your 560Ti for another few weeks/months until you can afford that extra $30.

Heck, I'd even scrap the aftermarket cooler and put that money towards a 970 if you have to. Or at the very least, get an aftermarket cooler that is $40 less, and put that towards your video card budget. $75 for an aftermarket air cooler is a lot of wasted money, IMHO. You could get something that performs the same for half that price(or less)

The massive leap that you would get from anything that costs $200-$250ish to a Nvidia 970 at $330 is well worth it.

This is correct. If you don't plan on overclocking your Intel processor then the stock fan is actually perfectly fine for it

Everything in that link is already purchased and assembled. The Noctua was I think $15 cheaper when I bought it. I purchased it to OC. My 4690k is at 4.5GHz currently and I haven't even bothered to get into the voltages much, so there's surely room to go further.

If the 970 is that much of a jump over the next tier down, then I'll just spring for one of those most likely. I just haven't looked at video cards for nearly 3 years I believe, so I'm unsure of the latest trends, etc.

Thank you. I do really want one, unfortunately it seems like it won't fit in my case unless I get the inferior performing "itx" models

I am contemplating modding my case or maybe even doing a slight rebuild. More money though for a computer I only built a year ago... although I might be able to sell the case, power supply, and cooler which could help offset the cost.

Actually, I think I might make a custom case out of acrylic or polycarbonate... might be a fun and interesting project. We have some cardboard lying around, I should mock it up.

I'd use a premade motherboard tray, either a replacement part or rip one out of an old case.

Gigabyte has a small GTX 970 that would fit your case.

Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More - Newegg.com

But I'm not sure I'd use a non reference card in a small case. It is still a viable option though. If you didn't wanna go that route can get a card and another case that'll accommodate the longer cards with better airflow and still come in at the $500 mark.

Thank you for all the advice. I looked into the many options (including the custom case) and decided that I should either mod my current one to fit the card or just forget about the whole thing. The ITX cards run hot and loud, and they don't quite hit the speeds of the full sized versions.

I suppose I could probably buy a new slightly larger case as well, but I have the SG05 set up just the way I like it, it fits perfectly into a small space near my desk and I am loathe to change the whole space.
