maybe just person preference but id look for an m.2 drive. if you dont want to spend more $ on 950 pro you can prob get an 850 evo m.2 drive. takes up less space in your pc, no cables, etc. 960 evo is coming out any day though....

I just installed the M.2 version of that drive on the same motherboard last week. If you go that route make sure you update the bios, as it didn't recognize the drive until I did. This was the first build I've done with a motherboard with a UEFI bios and I was surprised to see that I could check for bios updates and flash them all from the bios itself.

Get an i7-6700K for 290 at new egg. Huge performance jump over the i5.

i7 is a 100% waste of money for a gaming machine.
So this is where I think I'm leaning now that I want to do my own build. Haven't settled on a case yet, comes to about 1300 with win10 pro and no case. I also finally want to give over clocking a shot. Thoughts? I'm probably going to want to upgrade the cpu fan as well.

imo;

drop the i7 and get an i5 and use the difference on a corsair h110(pretty much best and cheapest 240 or bigger aio). Zero difference between i7 and i5 for gaming and it will be a cheaper, cooler, and best of all a quieter build.

If you need a case go with the Define S, pretty much the best case out there for standard atx unless you need more than 3 3.5 drives.

Id get a 1tb ssd over a 512, games are big these days.

So, i'm in the market to upgrade my GPU, ram, and prob new ssd or two. I need some consultants here.

EVGA's 1070 SC is sitting at 404 and not sure if I wanna pull the trigger, or should I be moving and debating a different one? too many choices.

pcpartpicker's lowest price history was around 490-ish? I don't even know if I should be looking at a different model, or a matter of the differences between all the different 1070's.

I was also looking at 2400 16gb ram sticks at 99, but doesn't seem they've dropped for any deals yet and have had a record low of 60$

Ended up getting it.I've never been a big graphic snob(I usually turn shit off or down in most games to get smoother frames, especially in MMOs with large pvp batttles). I figure with the 1080p and 144hz I will get a lot smoother ride on a 1070 , while that same GPU might struggle with 1440p in the same situation(high frames with lots going on on-screen).

Now to just hope for a good 1070 deal and then look for a new PSU. Also need to buy a cheapo desk to hold 2 monitors ;P

There's no issue in a 2 monitor setup if one is old as fuck(one I linked earlier) and that new one I just bought? The 2nd would just be used to keep broswer/music/voip etc on , so no more alt tabbing.

I don't see why there would be any problems. I'm running 2 old as fuck monitors without issue. It will be nice to finally retire the secondary monitor as it was scavenged from a former employer and the screen had been abused and scratched.

I understand there's little difference between the i7 and i5 for gaming, but if one can afford it, wouldn't it have the benefits of potential future proofing? And thanks for the advice on the cooling and case, going to check those out.

We're starting to see a 10-15% FPS increase going from an i5 to an i7 for some games, so I would whole heatedly disagree that an "i7 is a 100% waste of money for a gaming machine."

EVGA's have had some issues this time around, not sure if they have fixed it yet but couple people here have had issues with them now.

Dunno about other cards but I've been watching 1070's and they've been steady at around 400~ between all the brands for the last week, and nothing really special for BF thus far.
