Ryzen was not a dud, shit is a powerhouse.
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 vs. a 5-year-old gaming PC, or why you should never preorder
Looks like a huge no unless I am missing something.

General consensus is that if the only thing you do is game, then the i7 is still your best bet for now. If you do anything else at all (streaming, en/decoding, un/compressing, etc) that can take advantage of multiple cores, then Ryzen is what you want and it isn't close.
IMO , not worth it at all. You've gone this long on that i5 , and you can go longer. Wait for some bad ass shit to come out, if it ever does. You already made the biggest leap, and went with the 1070, so now just ride that sweet wave a little longer, and you'll reap benefits. So back to the original question - anyone?Basically will the jump be worth 700 bucks.
I can get the CPU for $299.
Mobo for 159
Ram for $139
New case and new 212 Evo and a small tube of Arctic silver.
It's a little late on the response, but I bought an EVGA 1060 SSC and I've got nothing but good things to say. It's slightly more than the ones linked, however.this card worth the extra 30$?

The cheapest seller of a 1060 SSC is $450? That seems off... It's got dual fans, but at that point, why not just go the 1070?It's a little late on the response, but I bought an EVGA 1060 SSC and I've got nothing but good things to say. It's slightly more than the ones linked, however.
I kind of wanted a 1070, but that would've been at least $100 more. And I currently only game at 1080p anyway, with no plans to upgrade my monitor.
I guarantee an increase in performance going from a 5 year old processor but it won't be as noticable as going to 144hz or anythingWell if I'm not seeing any benefit. I only ask now more because the 144hz gsync I have at 1440p was such a fucking awesome addition, I wonder what else I could be missing out on. But it's split. A lot say there is hardly any benefit.

But I'm just a computer engineer so my knowledge is limited
Oh, holy fuck. Hadn't seen just how bad the mining thing had jacked up costs. My 1060 SSC was like $250, minus a $10 rebate. The cheapest seller of a 1060 SSC is $450? That seems off... It's got dual fans, but at that point, why not just go the 1070?
No, lucky to be 35% between a 3570k and a 7600k.So a 60% increase?
