As part of SIGGRAPH 2020, NVIDIA researchers (in collaboration with the Visual Computing Lab at Dartmouth College) recently released a paper showcasing ReSTIR, a new raytracing algorithm capable of rendering dynamic direct lighting and shadows from millions of light sources in real-time.

Quite impressive

I use these and love it. They’re crisp, rich, and loud as fuck. It blows my mind they’re $149.

I don't want the stupid subwoofer though.

4900x 3080ti here I come

Pretty much this, I plan to splurge and since I just upgraded the woman’s pc I’ll just sell off my Azza cube setup with the 2080ti to recoup some of the cost. Likely be the last build till DDR5 comes to consumers.

Interesting a 200-300mhz upgrade doesn't seem, worth it currently.

Wonder how much longer till Carbon Nano-tubes or Graphene are gonna start being used for them.

2070 super installed.

It does run SIGNIFICANTLY colder than my Vega did. Right now its sitting at 39-42C. The Vega was always at at least 55C no matter what you were doing.

I would think that AMD is offering too many models--too much competition within its own line. But I've read this is all binning from the same wafer?

Also, 3800XT has the highest baseclock at 4.2GHz.

That's good. There's really no good reason to get an AMD card

Want to know the hilarious part? Buying the Vega + this 2070 Super was still cheaper than buying the equivalent nvidia card when I originally bought the Vega.

Moore's Law is Dead (Youtuber that I really like to listen to) postulated that this is just AMD making the entire brand new Intel line look bad before Zen 3 is even announced.

The 10900 only beat the 3900X by about 7% on average in gaming benchmarks and was torched in non-gaming benchmarks. The 3900XT looks like it will be enough to virtually match the 10900 in gaming. This seems to be purely stepping on Intel's throat.

Yeah. I really hope with 3xxx and beyond the prices normalize. Even buying my 2070S for $500 felt shitty. It dwarfed even my processor, which just feels dumb.

I remember buying my Voodoo 3 2000 back in the mid-late 90s for like $150--200 and that was a great card.

I went from a nvidia 960 to a Vega along with my Ryzen/Mobo purchase. Here's to hoping I can just stick with the 2070 super for the next 5 years.

Nah. No way. You're on the verge of the next gen of cards. That's at most a two year cycle? Five years you will be three generations behind probably.

Let me be clear here. I never once have ever attempted to have cutting edge anything.

With the next cycle of consoles coming out 5 years could be a stretch goal

I'm sure it will still be running new games in 5 years at decent settings

Then ya...you're good.

Also, I thought about this. PC gaming won't be going above 4k for the foreseeable future (like next 5-10 years). 1440p will be the new 1080p with this generation of cards. You probably ARE good if you care less about cutting edge, and playing at 4K.
