the 10700k can hit upwards of 5.1 with a basic 240 aio, youre not gonna get anywhere near that w/ a hyper 212. heck that 4000d can even fit a 280 on top so you can go with an artic freezer ii 280 and be good with cooling, it's only like 115

$300 motherboard and $175 for 3200 ram is way too much for a ghetto Intel PC. Cooler is very weak for a 10700k, also you'll want some case fans for your airflow case to have...airflow.

Better performance at same/less price- 5600x/5800x + MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK AM4 ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg.com + 16GB 3600cl16 ram + lancool II mesh or Meshify C White (4000D wasn't great quality).

So you are saying the below would be a better build than the previous? Maybe swap the 5600X for the 5800X since the price difference isn't that much.

Pretty shocked that it is so difficult to find a system to buy. Now that the 3060Ti is out, I figure I might as well wait til its more readily available. All the system sellers I've went too have them on "pre order" status that extends build / ship time by 6 weeks or so. What is causing this? Is the Chinese market just sucking up all the cards? Did some chip factories get totally shutdown?

Since I am looking to buy a built system, I am curious on what type of cooling I should be looking to have placed in the system. My current system is so old that pretty much anything is going to be a good upgrade, and so far the i7 10700K seems like a popular cpu for the systems I've looked at. Yet, I'm not sure if the default cooling that the builders list is at the "bare minimum" level or actually good. I'll never overclock the cpu beyond switching on the Turbo Boost, which I guess will require that the ram be able to handle it?

I built this system with a corsair water cooling system back in 2012, and it was decent until it failed and almost let my cpu fry. Since then I've been using a Hyper 212, which has been working like a champ all these years. So, for a i7 10700K, what would be a really good air cooler for it? I've seen BeQuiet coolers listed as options a lot, as well as current H212's.

yea i was about the same w/ a corsair water cooler, like you i said fuck water cooling and so many points of failure and went w/ massive heatsink

be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, BK022, 250W TDP, CPU Cooler

i have 3 em, theyre the best looking coolers (i never really cared, but, why not)

their performance is practically the same as a noctua d15

without looking so ugly, installation is easy on both (noctua of course is going to be a tad easier), and you only have to worry about clearance issues, these are BIG chonky heatsinks.

Just as good for most normal usage scenarios.

Having a bigger cooler than you need does not actually make your computer run any better. Most CPUs are not maxing out a 200W TDP cooler, the extra 50W headroom worth of TDP from the Pro is not necessary in most cases.

Bigger cooler = bigger fans. More cooling capacity at every level. Better cooling at the low end of temps + big slow fans = quiet. Quiet = good.

chonky cooler=big thermal mass and usually more heatpipes (in this case the pro has 1 more heatpipe)

You're missing the point. Most people don't need that much cooler. The non-pro 4 already blows away (pun extremely intended) most other air coolers aside from the big noctua and the dark rock pro, which are complete overkill for what most people are doing with their PC. Most people are not maxing out an OCed CPU at sustained 100% loads.

10700k (11700k & 11900k) are mostly just 9900k s. If you're being smart and getting a R5/R7 5000 series, then yeah a monster cooler would be fairly pointless in gaming.

G-skill

Difference between RAM brands is mostly the heatsink, chips come from wherever is cheapest that day. On Newegg you can pay 100$ more for corsair, stare at out of stock for Oloy, or buy some Crucial and find out that they mostly make single rank with no way to know until after you get it.

Dual rank only helps if you're buying a 2 stick kit, and that's all the brands selling 16gb 3600cl16 sticks.
