I’d probably go with Starforge for prebuilt. I have no experience with them myself but I’ve seen a bunch of good reviews. Gamers Nexus review is the one that made me lean towards them if I ever went with a prebuilt.

This got dropped into my lap. How can I remove hardened thermal paste? Used 100% acetone and alcohol.

Is it safe to scrape this off with a razor or knife?

Yeah, you can hit it with a razor blade as long as you don't silverback gorilla it. It's a nickle plated piece of copper you'd be scraping against. But I'd first just let a alcohol soaked piece of paper towel sit on it for a bit and then try a credit card edge.

Goo-gone brand adhesive remover on a cotton ball, let it soak 5-10 minutes . Should not even need a hard edge. Hit it with alcohol afterwards and you are done. Been doing that for 10+ years when I redo paste.

I would not have put acetone anywhere near a PCB. The finish on the motherboard is lacquered in some way.

91% alcohol should do it...

I'd advise against a razor, slip and you could cut a trace or a cap on the board and ruin it.

I always used a bread clip to scrape off old goo and spread out new paste. Works well in a tight spot and you can just throw em out after. Actually saved a few plastic ones just for that purpose since they're starting to use shitty paper ones now.

Scraped it with a razor. Came off in 10 seconds. PC back up and running after replacing his AIO.

Yeah.

Isopropyl alcohol works wonders, too. A big wet dab on a paper towel, wipe, turn, wipe turn..clean.

Is a ZOTAC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER Trinity Black Edition worth it for $800? Considering the rest of my circa-2019 PC:

Intel Core i9 9900K
ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming
32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 3000MHz
NVIDIA 8GB GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER FOUNDERS EDITION
Operating System: MS Windows 10 Home
CORSAIR 750X RMX SERIES PLUS GOLD

Or should I just wait a bit and do a whole new PC...

It depends?

The 9900K will choke the 4070TI - somewhat at 1440p, a bit more at 1080, much less at 4k, and in general the memory and CPU won't give you the best 1% lows. However, you will still see much improved FPS over the 2070. If you are okay building your own, no reason to not get the 4070TI now and then upgrade the platform in the future.

Edit: Choke doesn't mean bad FPS, it just means that you won't get as much FPS with that 4070TI as a faster CPU will.

I wonder if I should wait for the next release which might be out in a couple months.

I don't know when the next AMD cpu gen is due. It was 2 years between the 5XXX and the 7XXX series (there was no 6XXX on AM4 or AM5). The 7800X3D is probably the best gaming CPU on the market currently, especially for your autistic Factorio style games.
