Just over clocked my i5-2500k. That was stupid easy. Not sure why I didn't do it earlier. I'm running Prime95 right now to make sure things are stable. Using a 44 multiplier, and temps aren't going above 65 C. Tried 45, and it blue screened on me pretty quick. Will go do some chores and whatnot while this is running. But 3.3 Ghz, to 4.4 Ghz with a few simple button pushes is pretty damn nice to me. Most games these days are GPU bound, but I might see a difference?

Damn my GTX570 is having a really hard time with The Division. I don't want to wait two months, but the 970 is still going for 400-450$ up here in Canada. Would getting a second 570 for 100$ for SLI be worth the trouble?

Not sure if it's been fixed but pretty sure I read the division was having issues with sli at release

970 was $349 at launch, 980 was $549. I wouldn't expect dramatically different pricing than that on the new generation - they're not going to send the 1070 up to $600. They'll probably launch 1070 under the $400 price point, 1080 under the $600 price point, and then a year later sell a 1080 Ti for just under $700.

Is it G-Sync? You're still in the dark ages for gaming if it isn't.

(congrats though)
Went with 2 of them, Asus PG279Q for the main and an MG279Q for the secondary. Cover both my bases with a freesync and a gsync, so we'll see where cards go in the future.

Now the first world struggle of finding good 1440p wallpapers has begun.

Damn Soy that 980ti is about to be seriously outclassed, shouldn't you wait?
I won't even look at the next gen cards when they come out. If you wait for the next best thing, you'll basically always be waiting. I'm only running a 1080p display right now as well, so the 980ti(even if outclassed) is more than I will need for quite a while. I probably could have saved a couple hundred bucks had I waited until the price drop(after summer?), but I can deal with that.

I'm OK waiting right now, and between now and then hopefully the SeaSonic power supply goes on sale for $85 again, and I'll pick it up and a cheap 970. Between the 970 and the over clock I just did, my pleb casual gaming ways will be good for another long while.

Apply promo code: EMCEHGT58 and it'll get even cheaper. Down to $573!! Sell Division code on Ebay for at least $35... shit starts making it pretty cheap. I only hope that Pascal will even blow the socks off these cards, or make these cards a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

Saw it from this post, but it works on the 980 Ti.

If you just want to plug & play and go, any of the ASUS routers are phenomenal, with great signal strength.

Wireless B/G/N:
Amazon.com: ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router: Computers Accessories

AC compatible:
Amazon.com: ASUS (RT-AC68U) Wireless-AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router: Computers Accessories

I've had the N66U for a few years now, and it's great.

If you want something that is super customizable with more settings than you'll probably ever use, go Microtik:
Amazon.com: MikroTik RB951Ui-2HnD 5-Port Wireless AP 1000mW: Computers Accessories

2nd this recommendation. I have the Asus N66U and the AC87. Both are awesome.

My experience with Modem/Router combos has been underwhelming at best, I'd advise against it if you can purchase them separately. I don't have any empirical data to back it up, but I just have had shitty experiences with the built-ins.

Can confirm, every experience with a combo unit has been ass. That said, maybe they're better these days, last time I tried one was like 5 years ago?

I have the SBG6580 and it works fine for me.

The reason I'm asking though is because my sister is looking into it. She has her/sig other and 3 kids between them and is looking for something that could handle all that with them streaming tv etc. Is the N66U enough or should I tell her to spend more on something like the AC68U?

I've been on the road a a lot(blah blah) but I finally got back to my home in an attempt to gather all my stuff and bring it to a condo i rented for the summer. Well needless to say my 5 year old Alienware(yea yea make fun of me) seems to be finally shitting the bucket and having all sorts of issues. Not to mention it's one of those giant towers I really don't want to carry around looking like some super dork gamer.

I did, in the last 2-3 years, but a 2-3TB HD and that pretty much has all my stuff on it. So in short, I'm in the market for a new computer. I can take the extra HD out of the alienware and use that as my primary storage drive on the new PC and not even lose any of my personal stuff. I don't want to really do Alienware again and while I am probably capable of building my own PC, I have zero desire to do it.

Does Amazon sell pre-made PC's at a reasonable price(I only ask about amazon because of prime shipping as I like instant gratification), or does someone else have a recommended machine/company that can ship one out quickly. I won't be at my current address long so a little sacrafice on specs to get it now is fine by me. I already do 90% of my life stuff on a tablet, and if it were not for certain games I wouldn't even want a new PC as tablet games are mostly fine and obviously I don't need a huge machine to surf the web.

What I do and what I want a PC for:

-SSD as the primary boot drive. My work laptop has it and now I'm addicted, plus I have the massive TB drive for generic storage
-Don't care about CD/DVD/old school disk input
-Don't care about wireless
-Would prefer to keep it under 1k if possible as I really don't intend to use it much
-I basically only use it to play MMOs. Currently that is FFXIV, sometimes my EQ nostalgia, occasionally try new ones, etc.. I do not care about running it with all graphics at the max, but maybe medium/normal settings but with NO video/frame lag. This current machine was showing it's age a bit in FFXIV and nothing is worse than video lag in that game where you have a .2second margin of error to get out of the red circles. So to everyone else I look like a noob standing there but really I had no chance to get out.
-I literally do not play any type of intense new FPS or graphic games like Witcher or whatever else is out there nor will I ever. No disrespect mean to the games but it's just not my thing. So pretty much only MMOs and the occasional steam game if it got good reviews(indie type of steam game like Dungeon Defenders or The Darkest Night....hardly cutting edge).

So since I have been out of the PC and gaming loop for a while wtf am I looking for when it comes to CPU/GPU? I know I can probably google all of this shit but like I said I really don't care enough to waste an afternoon on it. I want to click and go back to my life. If someone wants to build me what I need and ship it out or meet up for the exchange I'll even pay you cost + whatever for your time obviously

Edit: ohh and lesser concern but still a concern....it would be nice if it didn't look like a giant fucking spaceship or whatever these new gaming PC's look like

And I have looked on the alienware/dell/http://www.ibuypower.com/ etc type of sites but I just don't know what I need to do what I described in the above since everything is built to do 90fps on the newest games out there now and that's not me. Basically I do not know how much to "scale down" or "scale back".

Also don't need a monitor. I have some old pos i can use
