I offloaded mine to someone here on this forum that lives in my town at a pretty steep discount. I had 2 3gb 660Tis, one with a reference blower(EVGA) and one with aftermarket cooling(Galaxy), sold them both for $150, but they go for about $100-$120 apiece on Ebay, but I didn't want to screw with Ebay(my Paypal acct is shut down, long story)

Honestly, my 970 has been fine at 1440p for several months now. Why would a 4GB card run out of memory just past 3GB though? I get that there is probably some reserve overhead due to windows, DirectX, or whatever, but a full 25% of your RAM? I never remember having significant performance issues on 2GB cards when getting close to that 2GB mark.

Everyone is using that specific benchmark and msi afterburner vram usage reports. I'd like to see the source of that bench (not that I'd know what I'm looking at) and some very clear posts about how that vram usage is calculated / reported before going crazy and selling / returning my card.

It's running out right at 3.5gb. Windows Aero takes up about 300mb and then the other 200 is probably some driver overhead of some kind.

I had to flash the BIOS of my Strix 970 so the card would stop acting fucking retarded. It absolutely refused to go over 48-50% power draw no matter what settings I had it at, and the framerate performance in games showed it. WoW would be at like 35-40 FPS out in the world (in WoD) and DA:I was nearly unplayable, both at 2560x1440. Now it's 70-90 FPS outdoors in WoW (WoD is a bit of a hog, get nearly double this FPS in old world) and DA:I runs smooth.

970 controller can only address 3.5GB full speed. Once it exceeds that, it has to start contextual swapping. NVidia had this exact issue with one of their earlier cards.

So if I didn't want to custom build a PC, do any of you guys have a good pre-built pc that would be awesome to get? Honestly, it doesn't even have to be top of the line. Mainly I play CS:GO and LoL the most. Sometimes I will randomly get a PC game like Tomber Raider or Witcher but I have a ps4 so many of these new titles I'll just get on ps4 so /shrug.

I'd love to get a solid state HDD just because the whole ~15-20 sec startup time would be awesome as well. Although, even getting a pre-build PC and just adding in a Solid state could work as well since I should be able to do it.

Also, should I just wait til Windows 10 is out (or 11 or w/e the hell the new one is) before I buy anything new??? I can use newegg, tigerdirect, amazon, etc etc.

Couple things...

What do you have right now? Its possible all you need is a video card upgrade if your PC is under ~5 years old.

If you don't want to build a PC, you probably don't want to buy a pre-built and then swap in an SSD, that's almost as complicated as just building a whole PC. Not that reinstalling windows is hard, but that's honestly about the most complicated part of building a PC, getting your boot drive set up in the bios and installing windows. It's all easy, but thats one of the more tedious of the easy steps, that's like half the trouble of building a PC right there.

Had a bit of a panic today. I shut my computer down cold for the first time in months and the fucker would not start back up. Press the power button repeatedly, nodda. I had to remove the power cable 2 or 3 times before it finally fired back up. Very strange!! I hadn't planned to upgrade this damn thing until Skylake at a minimum. It has probably been the longest I have ever owned a PC without upgrades (besides my SSD).

Nearly three years strong:
3770k OC @ 4.5GHz
16G of DDR3 OC @ 2400MHz
2x nVidia 670 in SLI

Yeah, I wouldn't even think about upgrading that anytime soon, other than video cards at some point, unless something flat-out dies and has to be replaced.

Basically my PC is some parts I've had for a long time and some parts I've won during random starcraft2 tournaments lol. (Video Card & Motherboard) I've been away from custom building PCs for such a long time I'm unsure of where to even start, hence why I was tempted to buy something pre-built, but /shrug. Guide me my Rerolled bros!

Yea, the only thing on my radar requiring system upgrades is a bootable M.2 SSD and 4K. Probably still a year out until IPS 4K is even remotely affordable, let alone the Video Card hardware required to push it.

It's possible your PSU is dying. I doubt there's anything wrong with the rest of the system.

Also, don't bother with the bootable M.2 SSD. Good bootable PCIe SSDs should be coming around in time for the next intel chipset to support booting from them. At least that's what I've heard.

Yeah, if it was a brand-name pre-built PC to begin with, they are notorious for having cheap/shoddy PSUs
