This is my 2 cents on the Alpha coming from a guy who clocked countless hours on halo 1-3 and the 2 side games.
Played every class to max, explored everywhere, and did countless hours of matchmaking in the Alpha.
This game is really smoke and mirrors, and why I think Bungie is so brilliant.
It is the best part of all the Halos combined into one game. It is not , however a MMO.
Now let me explain that. The story mode is not a persistant world. It is not a server where you will ever see the same people. When you go to an area where the game allows more then your fire team it only lets a set amount of players into that instance.
Even the Tower is like this. You will never see the same tower twice, or the same players again. It is essentially like every other Halo except instead of 2 person co op it allows 3 people to play much like reach. When you go to a instance with other people I believe the max is 6.
So it's just a very detailed story mode, or campaign mode. It of course adds things like exploration to spice it up, but in the end it has more in common with a Diablo then an MMO,
I personally love that.
One thing that is still there from the last Halos is the ability to gimp content. AFK one of your team ,and you never lose. You can just spawn rush shit down. All the mobs are on short leashes as well so can just run past a lot of shit.
On the competitive side, and I really cringe when people call this pvp, it has all the trappings of matchmaking from all the other Halos. The biggest difference is instead of putting weapons on the board you have ammo crates that spawn, and only some of them are in set locations.
One thing I do miss is having multiple grenades. Nades were a huge part of Halo, and only allowing players to have one grenade on a cooldown is my only gripe.
The one shot melee weapons being gone doesn't bother me since that was always broken. Now everyone has a regular melee blow.
They also got rid of people being overwhelmed by vehicles due to everyone having a cooldown to dispose of them.
It is funny seeing all the same bugs from all the other Halos in this game tho. You can do the quick reload bug, and Headshot people by hitting the shoulders. People are already doing the desync shit where there character become invulnerable.
One thing I noticed is people play it like COD, when Halo is all about jump firing.
That's one of the reason I miss grenades so much /le sigh.
The matchmaking allows the player to just play that if they want to. Everything you get from the campaign mode is just decoration much like they did with Halo 3.
I'm hoping that Bungie goes back to the godlike ranking system of Halo 3. I really hope they do not wuss out, and let people play this game competitively.
When the masses only complaint is that Dinklage did a poor VA ( which is asinine), you know you have a good game.
Can't wait for this to launch so I can play Halo again.
