You got little bundles of magically delivered loot for Baal/Meph/whatever runs in D2 if you cared to do them. You'll get little bundles of magically delivered loot for these mini-quests if you choose to do them. I never really got into the boss runs in D2 so probably won't get into these mini-quests but maybe they're more interesting considering boss runs were boring as fuck.

You know you can do that in D3 too, right? No one's stopping you from running Cathedral level 3 to your heart's content. It's inefficient, loot and exp wise, but you can do it. And it was inefficient in D2 also. The best runs were the ones I listed already. They were small and repeatable and basically like quests.

Here's the ironic part. While you're bitching about bounties, you've overlooked that they're getting rid NV stacks. Now wandering off and killing whatever is less inefficient compared to whatever will be the best, which I'm assuming will be bounties->rifts, otherwise why have them?

Ditch the rose-colored glasses, D2 was more similar to what you're complaining about than you realize.

I did a 40 min video about bounty and "maps", as a barb lv 70 (WW is dead atm). Nothing super uber to see but well since people wanna see how bounty work.

You could pick specific uniques in D2:LoD, target the mobs with the best chance of dropping them and get them without gouging your eyes out for 95% of items, the exceptions being the highest level chests which you did pit runs/baal/cows for or next to impossible to get runes (I had a great system for farming Runes - PL a party full of characters as vanilla D2 characters to Hell level Hellforge, change them to LoD characters then kill Hephasto for each of them separately - no act 5 or lvl requirements in vanilla - $$$$$). Straight Countess chest runs for runes otherwise, Nightmare Andariel for SoJs, Mephie runs in 45-50 seconds a time giving 20-30 uniques an hour or Pindle was something stupid like 25 seconds.

Messing around with a bot farming after I was eventually done with D2 was fun. Wake up from bed every morning and checking what had been found overnight was like being a kid at Christmas. Once went away for five days left it running and it was still going running Pindle over and over when I got home. Chest full of stuff like Windforce and stupid high level runes. ><

Don't kid yourself, this is very much still around now in D3.

I think once they flesh out Nephalem Rifts, bounties will be something you do for leveling but not so much for farming, at least that's what I hope. Nephalem Rifts should have a boss every 3floors, a floor that is autosummoned when you kill enough mobs like currently(maybe 2) and a boss at the end that drops loot based on how many other bosses you've killed, with a bonus for the bosses summoned. That basically puts you into a situation where you actually clear them entirely, all 10 levels, and are rewarded with a lot more loot but you can skip some of the annoying bosses if you want to. Also increase chance to drop rifts keys in the rifts themselves so you can just permanently run them over and over. Alternatively they could be made shorter but with a boss on every level and maps generated to be bigger per level. Another way would be to have the charging bar to summon bosses reset once you've killed a boss, with a chest/boss at the end that gives rewards based on how many bars you've filled and how many bosses you've killed before as well as potentially time spent. This would favor killing the trash mobs and making balanced builds good at both clearing large amounts of mobs but also killing bosses quickly.

Anyway, they lifted NDA very early and the game has a lot of pretty cool shit, but it's pretty far from release state. Other than obvious assets issues(lots of PH items missing icons and models) they have A LOT of job to do on balancing, both classes and game systems. Imo currently loot drops too much(might be a beta thing though), like you should get legendaries often but at this point people are getting legendaries every 10minutes, kinda kills the point of it and devalues rares even further. Also they need to hit some legendaries with the nerf bat real hard, like the one that makes Ignore Pain permanent(well 60secs longer so it's longer than cd) or the one that makes shrines 1h duration(seriously wtf thought that was ok, shrines are OP as fuck and one hour is way too long). They might also want to reconsider how Crushing Blows work or whatever, I don't know but the barb that has 50%crushing blows already is basically doing torment VI farming np, it's not super fast but it seems a bit stupid you can do it that early.

Anyway they have a lot of things to do, plus I assume a lot of classes didn't get their pass yet, as they didn't get many changes at all.

I think they might have changed their philosophy regarding betas, HotS also had super early beta with a lot of changes and they were throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks.

Which is oldschool Blizzard, look at how many iterations of the armor/damage system WC3 went through.

I just started playing D3 again today. Somehow got convinced by a friend. My gear is obviously crap since I haven't played since 2 months after launch, but should I stick with shield barb or go DW or 2hander?

This is my guy.

Anyway, really surprised at the drop rate. Playing a few hours today, I found a storm shield (also someone was kind enough to give me the belt).

Shields are pretty much garbage for now. I rock a 2 hander but depending on your build you can DW or 2h. Drop rate hasn't really been fixed so you're just lucky.

Though not to discourage you, everything has been nerfed to oblivion so you can do a lot with a little now. You could make a lot of builds work, even with a shield.

Just remember if you plan to play the expansion, pretty much everything in this game will be worthless except levels. You could argue gold, but gold is (at least right now in the beta) easily obtained in the expansion.

I started up my barb again to play very sporadically so as to not have to get 100+ paragon levels all at once between March and the actual release date of RoS.

Thisis what I ended up with after spending a couple million on WW gear. It's still not great, I can do MP8 trash but I didn't balance vitality/life% well enough, and MP10 is still out of reach. At least I assume that's the biggest issue. I would need considerably more dps to do it efficiently too, mainly because items with IAS/crit/critdmg are ungodly expensive now. Legs should have been Inna's Temperance and boots Ice Climbers too, but again there was nothing cheap that was remotely decent at the time I was buying so I stuck with Immortal King's stuff. And my Skorn isn't terrible, but it really should have had life steal on it.

Do you just buy the recipes for the crafting stuff? I'm still leveling a bit on the side, albeit very slowly, just wondering what made crafting gear actually worth it, last time I played it was just trash. Mostly my plan is getting Paragon 50ish and a couple of classes to 60 and a Hellfire Ring(I'll just farm the machines in low mp then try to find someone to mp10 kill the ubers for me). But wondering. Also hesitating to buy gold with money, but can only drop 10euros minimum in blizzard bucks which sucks since 50millions is 1.5euro and I really don't think I need a lot more than that and no idea what I'd buy with the rest, maybe the expansion itself but probably won't be able to spend all the money right either so meh.

Yes, just buy the primary stat + 5 affix recipes for whichever slots you want.

I've been spending all my essences on gloves so far, no luck though.

Edit: Am I better off doing, say, a MP5 rares route rather than MP8 trash? I basically just do 1-2 Paragon levels a day and call it quits.

Ugh.

I just have... no desire to even lift a finger to check out the streams. They sucked the Diablo soul right out of the franchise, for me, permanently. I can only wish them the worst after how they defiled the legacy that *was* Diablo 2. I won't be buying the expansion, I won't be a part of their target demo, and I definitely won't be played twice.

As long as the Butterfly queen is still alive in the game, while Cain is dead, this entire re-working of gems, skills, blah - can fuck right the hell off.

Such a tragedy.
I'm playing the console version until March. Just started on PS3. sirsoloman
