I've been doing Act1 keyfarming but kind of going out of my way to itemfarm as well. I think I'm out of my mind because it is pretty good drops and XP. I'm clearing Whimsy as well which seems like extraordinarily good XP rate since there are hordes of those flowers all over the place.

If any of you diehard D3 boys want to come over to the good team playing Path of Exile, drop me a PM and I'll help you out with advice and some twink loots.

D3 needs to die a painful death now.

Fuck off, seriously. If one more motherfucking person posts about how people should quit D3 and start playing Path of Exile in this thread I'm going to start bombing the PoE thread with non stop posts about Diablo 3.

Yeah, we get it, Path of Exile exists, because we aren't fucking blind and we can see the goddamn Path of Exile thread that has been here since the beginning. We don't need somebody coming in and injecting a 'HURR DURR you should quit this game and come play PoE' into every fucking conversation.

*edit*

Added some more profanity.

I concur. It would be terrific if PoE players could keep the PoE talk in the PoE thread - Nothing against the game whatsoever, in fact I'm glad there's a game providing what some people found D3 to be missing

I tried Path of Exile. In my honest opinion, I just didn't like it as much as D3. it feels cheaper and less polished. the animations are jerky, the minimap sucks, garbage loot filling the screen makes it impossible to see or click on anything, and I'm not into e-peen ladders and races. It has good points: the skill system, the variety of builds, the ability to re-roll sockets/stats/affixes, diving into maps instead of farming the same area over and over, etc. But I still like the feel of Diablo 3 better. Just wish there was more variety of things to do.

So, I played this weekend for the first time in 4 months. Killed Diablo in Inferno mode on my Barb with some build I half assed on my own where all I do his spam Cleave. I have a bunch of random gear, mostly STR/VIT, so I started to farm Act3 and even without a MF set, I end up with 40+ rares. Problem is I have zero clue what is worthless and what is worth selling for any class but my own, and barely my own. For all I know I have vendored valuable items.

Is there a web-site or some rules of thumb that can be used to determine what is crap and what might have value on the AH. And by value I mean stuff that will actually sell if priced correctly. 99% of the items on the AH seem to be insanely priced, which makes it tough for me after a long layoff to learn prices since idiots posting items for 100+ million gold that are worthless dominate the market and overwhelm the few items that actually are valuable.

Even a site that lists best in slot items or max values per slot would be useful.

Unless you're starting out from scratch, in which case you might as well pick up everything and vendor it, then there's a great deal of rares (not to mention blues) that you can safely ignore and not waste inventory space or identifying time on altogether. For example, while you can ignore rare two-handers (since the legendary Skorn blows them out of the water 9 times out of ten), you should always be picking up rings and amulets. I typically pick up gloves, wrists, shoulders and 1h weapons too, as long as they've got an ilvl above 60. Some of those might be a waste of effort along with two-handers, but I've gotten lucky a few times with those slots, so I've stuck to looting them.

When it comes to pricetagging your stuff, there are two things to take into consideration from the get go; 1) take a moment to right-click and quickly browse the estimated value of items with similar stats already on the AH, 2) if it's a so-called 'Trifecta' or 'Quadfecta', meaning it's got 3-4 of the highly coveted rolls (mainstat, +critical hit chance, +critical hit damage, +attack speed), then you're pretty much set. For example, the difference in price between a ring or an amulet having two or three of the aforementioned rolls can be measured in by millions in double or even tripple digits, at least on the European region AH. Simply put, if you've got a trifecta item or better, then it's worth something to someone.

Unless you're trying to move something like that, or one of the highly sought after legendaries with a half-decent roll like a Mempo, Echoing Fury or Witching Hour etc., chances are your auction won't sell until you put it on a firesale, that's been my experience with the European AH these past 3-4 weeks at least. The market is beyond FUBAR with some players wielding market dictating bankrolls and a lot of douches thinking they've hit a jackpot just because they scored some above average item, both making for a less than stellar experience for the average Joe who just wants to sell off some stuff and put gold towards some future upgrade. When you try to sell your stuff, figure out for yourself if you've got the patience to fish for the right buyer to come along or just need to move the item as fast as possible, and then price accordingly. For example, I recently picked up an amulet (STR, VIT, CritChance, CritDam and some junk rolls) which I determined to be in the 100m range taking the availability and price of similar items on the AH; I started with a buyout price of 125m, but after a couple of days of relisting after it didn't sell, usually shaving off about 5 million each time, it finally sold overnight at the buyout of 110m. It would probably have moved faster if I had started out below 100m, but since I wasn't in any immediate need of cashflow, it paid off to relist a few times.

Finally, you can take a look at the gear that the highest ranked players are using, to form somewhat of an idea of what's end-game, ie. check out diabloheroes.com or diabloprogress.com - furthermore, I recommend checking out diablofans.com for rough pricechecks and other information, which might be valuable for you since - per your post - you've been out of the game for some time. If all else fails, post a screenshot of your item in this thread, and I'm sure you'll end up with some suggestions.

Hope that helps some!

Here is another thing to try if you are just starting out again... find someone who plays your class and streams on Twitch. Follow them and watch them.

Some of these guys have billions of gold and they will randomly go to the auction house and build a set for 10 or 20 or 30 million and just raffle it off to someone in the channel for free.

One of the guys I was watching in the background while I was playing yesterday was doing a four hour Legendary competition with 3 other guys... whoever gets the most in the four hours wins. This guy won and gave away all 13 that he found and 100 million gold to people in his channel. He is EU so I didn't get anything but still... some of these guys can be really generous.

I've ever seen other people come into a streamers channel and give shit away to people who want it as well.

When you first come back to the game after 7 months and have no idea what the fuck is going on... I started watching so I could learn the best methods for the new builds. Then when I saw people giving shit away I just leave it on in the background if I'm playing.

Well, at least you're not reposting questions that have been answered multiple times already.
Who is that directed at? I don't really blame people for reposting questions, especially when you consider that the thread is clogged with unnecessary posts, that tell people to stop playing the game and pick up something else. The useless OP doesn't help, either. As long as people put some effort into their questions, I for one don't mind answering.

Path to Exile feels like a cheap indie knockoff that tries to repeat the D2 magic while purposefully ignoring any improvements to the genre that have come since. The only systems it adds are ripoffs of other games. Paper doll and pathetically tiny inventory a direct copy of D2. Stupid fucking shared loot shit that requires ninja fast clicking mid fight or you lose your shit. FF7 materia to slot skills. Ridiculously convoluted passive skill tree based off of FF10 with over a thousand fucking nodes, 900 of which are "+% something". No respecs so making any significant changes requires starting over, oh boy. People actually think its a good thing that when some skills get changed or nerfed that their well mapped out build becomes shit and its time to go get 100 levels again. And then round it off with clunky animations and wimpy effects.

There are lots of reasons to hate D3, but most of those are tied into the genre as a whole - such as spending hundreds of hours mowing the lawn to get the right drop you need. See my post above. Hell, most of the people who vehemently hate D3 (yet play everything in the genre) are the ones that hated it from the first screenshot. "Its not a indiscernible muddy pixelated mess like D2! FUCK THAT WOW GAYNESS" And the crux of it is, people hate Diablo 3 because WoW exists. Everything Blizzard touches is ruined in the eyes of these retarded nerds because WoW. First Starcraft 2 screenshots? OMG TOO COLORFUL FUCKING WOW FAGS. People who had played POE for less than five minutes were pissing themselves with praise for its four shades of brown starting area.

The reason I started to hate D3 was how fucking horrid it is to play a game for hours without getting anything for it because the RNG is worse than the giant roulette ripoff wheel in Vegas. But that's the whole genre. They also misjudged their audience entirely by making inferno a ball-crushing hard mode requiring hundreds of hours of gear farming just to progress to the next tier. In reality people want to beat the game with minimum effort and then spend hundreds of hours farming loot so they can beat the game faster so they can get more loot more quickly. And a few patches later that's what D3 is.

With all the improvements made (mostly MP, drop rates and legendary improvements) if you don't enjoy Diablo3 in it's current form you don't actually like the genre as much as you claim. Shame Inferno sucked so badly at release which soured a ton of people from giving it another shot.

Or you love the genre, but realize that D3 is not designed for a multitude of replays like the genre is SUPPOSED to be designed. I realize you're one of the people who brushes it off as "hey it just takes 3 seconds to skip the quest/cutscene/exposition you get thrown into every 5 minutes", but for many people that type of thing is a deal-breaker for this genre, and makes it very hard to enjoy. Not to mention the poor "randomization" of maps and other things that add up to poor "Diablo" genre design.

They've made some good improvements, and have probably come about as far as they can without an entire design rehaul that *might* be possible with an expansion. But your assertion is silly.

-edit- I'll add that I loved the game for a single playthrough. If they had had any design foresight or... aptitude at all, they would have included a toggle to swap the game to "farm replay mode" and I'd have been playing it constantly until this day.

I brush it off because I can enjoy a game despite it's flaws. Diablo2 had plenty of them. PoE has plenty of them. Diablo3 has plenty of them. I guess I just whine far less than your average gamer.

Your statement also reinforces you haven't actually played the game much at least recently. Most runs these days feature exactly zero cutscenes or dialog skips. Sometimes you run into an aspect of Azmodan talking shit to you. Thats about it. Hunting bosses to cause dialog and cutscenes is now seen as pretty inefficient play so most people avoid it. The key hunting and NV mesh actually makes having to exit out to skip acts make sense. It would be silly be to be able to stack to 5 in Act1 then just skip to Oasis then to Stonefort to get all your keys. Would trivialize the entire process.

As has been said many times before, if you were turned off before 1.04 or 1.06 or were hitting a brick wall in Inferno Act 2 without spending hundreds of millions on the AH (while Act 1 was wtf easy), try the game again. You might be surprised.

I for one am enjoying myself immensely again.
