Oh my. I wasn't expecting much from the "Ask the Devs" initiative, but even my meager expectation seems to have been too high. And judging by the vitriol spilling into the thread one reply after another, I'm not alone in that regard!

Here's a link to the show:http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/top...5009644?page=1

Anyways, happy that the patch is hitting tomorrow! I look forward to gloriously blowing all of my saved up crafting materials, resulting in one shitty crafted item after another

I'm wondering what everyone is planning on crafting? I'll give shoulders a serious go as you only need to hit 2/5 with good rolls for a decent item. Gloves would be second, but that requires 3/5 all with good rolls to be useable.

Maybe bracers when they nerf the two piece nats set.

I'm in desperate need of an upgrade at shoulders so that is pretty much a no brainer. Amulets of course will be another hot item. And luckily I need an upgrade there as well.

Shoulder and amulet for me. You know shoulder itemization really sucks when the BIS is usually just one item...Vile Ward; and it's not even that great an item.

Amulet only because really good amulets currently cost hundreds of millions/billions, so maybe I'll get lucky!

For me gloves aren't a big priority, you can get main stat/cc/cd fairly cheaply, a little more if you throw in ias or vit.

Bracers.....can you even roll runspeed or attack speed? If not, lacunis with cc on it is still king.

Here's my thoughts on diablo in general

1. I think magic find is useless. 99.99% of rare items suck. Magic find just lets you find more items that suck. Near as I can tell, it doesn't factor at all into legendary drops.
2. gold find is pretty good (particularly when used with +radius). I checked my profile recently and I've picked up nearly 71mil. gold off the ground (and from quests). That's a pretty good amount. Having +20 radius definitely helps a lot with this though.
3. I'm not sure what to think about marquis gems.. I guess it's a good idea for those people with a shitload of gold, but I can't see too many people using them. I might consider the weapon.. maybe.. but it's pretty low on my wish list.
4. resists are overrated. I got all my resists up to over 1000 at one point and noticed no difference in the damage I was taking.. at all. I tried using a shield for a while also.. with equal results. You're much better off just focusing on damage and vitality.
5. I find +globe/potion to be pretty helpful. With my current gear, potions heal me for over 27k.
6. The biggest factor to getting xp is running speed. In mp0, everyone kills shit instantly. The factor to how much xp you get is how fast you can run when your not killing things (or even while you are killing things). I don't really like running through act 3 as fast as possible over and over and over. So, I'm pretty happy with the xp changes, as I might be able to get comparable xp doing different things.
7. I like hellfire ring type quests. Gives me something different to do. I wasn't really in a rush to get it so I didn't really care that much about the drop rates, but I haven't had very good luck. At MP5, I've averaged 1 drop for every 3 machines I've made (I've gotten 5 pieces in 15 machines at MP5). The first time I tried them solo, I did it at MP3 and got nothing. Aside from that, it seems like 50% of the time, I have to search the entirety act1/2 keywarden zones before finding the guy. The only time I seem to find them immediately is when I only have NV4.. which is annoying.
8. In over 500 hours played, I've only found 2 jewelry recipes.. I've found like 50 blacksmithing recipes.. never found a legendary recipe. So, I guess it's good that they are increasing the jeweler recipes!
9. I think the new archon crafting stuff sounds pretty good. Will be nice to actually have (potentially) something worthwhile to make at least, especially for new players. For very little gold they are guaranteed a 200+ primary stat item in 4 different slots, which is helpful.

That's it!

Cc lacunis are so far out of my price range it isn't funny. But I hit 4 slots of ias and 2 movement speed slots by using innas pants, so I could make the new bracers work. It depends on what/if they do something with set bonuses.

They've hinted at changing a few of them.

Ok, I guess I need help with gearing some more. I'm trying to farm keys on mp4/5 on my monk and just can't really do it. I die 1+ times on almost every elite. I don't think my dps is a big issue since on mp4 I still 2-3 shot white mobs, I just can't take any damage. I have 10m in gold right now, can I get significant gains for that on my monk or am I better off twinking my one of my other classes to farm keys?

Looking at your gear briefly, I would say you would be lucky to do MP4/5, your gear is more suited to MP0/1, your monk looks like mine when I first started out. A few things stand out:

1) You have no increased attack speed (IAS) items. The key for sweeping wind builds is too hit often and crit often, generating the largest number of tornadoes possible.
2) Get a cheap Echoing Fury (EF) for your main hand item. You can probably get a 1000 dps +dex with a socket for a few million gold. Most important is the + attacks per second stat - ideally you want +0.25 atk/sec, but that may be over budget for you unless you find a good deal, so get what you can. The reason that is important is because +atk/sec will apply also to your offhand weapon.
3) You have too much vitality. You can safely get around with 20k-30k hps, as long as you have enough lifesteal/loh (more on this later).
4) Looks like you went +fire resist, which I started out with also. You can find yourself some nice cheap items like Fire Walkers and Cindercoat.
5) Long term, the way to survive high level MPs is to increase your DPS high enough that it also increases your survivability through lifesteal (LS)and life on hit (LOH). By the time you get around 80k-100k dps, you should be able to almost never see your HP globe go down except to elites. Initially, you want to gear up with +LOH, because it's cheaper and more effective. Once you hit about 70k DPS, Lifesteal becomes the more valuable option. Also remember, Lifesteal works on the tornadoes you generate off of Sweeping Wind, but LOH won't.

So start shedding vitality, find some increased attack speed items, get yourself a decent EF, and work on more LOH before adding on LS. But imho, definitely focus first on getting IAS items and a nice EF.

I can't say Monks are my specialty but it seems like 44k sheet DPS is way too low to effectively farm higher MPs. Even if you can eventually grind down the elites and the keywarden it doesn't seem very efficient in terms of your time. Many of your slots you could upgrade pretty cheap and easy. Like your belt, helm, chest are all pretty sub-par and could be swapped out for less-than-perfect rolled legendaries.

I will respond by saying that grouping makes ring farming much much more enjoyable. Today I used 2 machines and made 2 rings and got 2 keys from the run. We ran MP8. It can take a while, but it makes all the difference to find the right groups. Once you do, friend them and just concentrate on making machines. My luck so far has been mediocre on the crafting part though. Did get one for my Warden though.

The crafting portion of this patch should at least add some variety. I mainly am looking forward to the gold pickup radius finally being increased just enough to where hopefully I do not have to have it on a piece of armor.

The default pickup radius is going from 1.5 to 3. It really isn't noticeable.

Just getting back into this. Dropped $5 in gold on the RMAH and bought a few pieces. Any comments/critiques on which slots I should focus on?

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/X...4/hero/1497371

I left the game with a celestial orb build, but would die at least once per pack with this gear at MP3. Same gear, but with this build (meteor/critical mass), and things are pretty stable now. I generally only die to multiple pulls or reflect packs on MP3.

Feel free to msg me in game if you want to play: Xaldren#1414

Thanks for the help guys. Bought an Echoing Fury, Fire Walkers, Inna's Hat (whatever it's called) and swapped out my gloves for some other ones I had that have no defense stats but nice offense. Did an MP4 Act II key run with only 1 pack that was a problem (Electric Reflect damage molten fast snakes). In bad news, it was my >9th< Act II key run, and 0 keys from that assmonkey so far. Got the other two fine >:l

Also got a bunch of bids out there that end tomorrow sometime so hopefully I get lucky there at least.

Someone link a fully geared monk please...

I put together this ghetto set with 14mil I had leftover before quitting:http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/a...0/hero/3006750

The advice above is interesting, but I don't know what pieces should be replaced and with what.
While being very far from being fully geared, I feel that I have made significant improvements since returning to the game.http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/b...93/hero/243416

Looking at your profile, it seems you are missing alot of attack speed. A general rule I tend to follow is do not let your attack speed drop below 2.0; of course the more the better. I also notice your accessories only have a single dps stat. Ideally, should look into getting accessories with at least 2 dps stats to start off with ie cc/ias or cc/cd. Worry about getting trifecta dps stats after you become rich. Also on the topic of accessories, do not neglect average damage stat on them. They offer a decent dps increase.

Since you are running the sweeping winds build, crit chance should be valued higher than crit damage when it comes to choosing gear; ideally around 35%ish cc would be a good point.

For your current gear, you have too much movement speed. MS on gear caps at 24%. The only way to go above that is with passives. What you can do is keep your lacuni and inna pants, and replace your boots with ice climbers with good rolls on the stats. Your weapons are pretty weak as well. Try to get an Echoing Fury with a socket and crit dmg or life steal, or ideally, all three, and a Won Khim Lau also with a socket and cd/ls.

One final note, if you don't mind breaking the inna 4 piece bonus, look for a mempo of twilight helm with ias and crit chance, and a witching hour belt. Though those are very pricey, they are essentially best in slot.

I never knew there was a cap on movement speed for gear. I am glad you posted that before I started working on the armor portion of my Wind Barbarian. Just to make sure, there is no IAS cap on gear is there?
