Poe doesn’t have a box value and adds insane amount of content each league.

D4 will have a box value bet on that and if you wanna know how deep their seasons will be look at d3.
PoE content is implemented so poorly. Unless you have played second one, figuring out what shit to do and what shit to avoid is hard. Doesn't help that the community is pretty bad. When I asked on their forums a while back, one guy told me to go search YouTube and no one else replied. They just thrust mechanics at you with no real explanation and it makes the game frustrating at best.

I would rather have to pay to play instead of getting shit thrown at the wall.

PoE is just a huge bloated mess to me. GGG needs to cut some of the fat off the game. Sometimes too much is not a good thing.

I do agree about the box price but as for how their seasons will be no one has played it so it's pointless to compare it to D3.

Don't disagree with the bloat in POE. In general POE is a game that is extremely hard to get into because of its complexity. You will need to do a fuckload of research, reading and watching videos to come close to being ok at the game.

The track record of blizzard for the past years strongly hints at diablo IV being another cash grab where people get fucked in the ass hard and a month later look bewildered at what just happened like the signs were not on the wall all along.

They're definitely looking at Immortal saying "well look how many people are willing to pay the box price 3 or 4 times"

Them getting into the mobile design arena will have some type of influence on the development of D4. Whether it's monetized similarly or not, doesn't matter-- people would be naive to believe that the executives that greenlit Immortal won't have any influence on this game.

Cheng already leaked in DM's that he can take an Immortal alpha tester and insert them into D4 testing. If he can move and shake things between Immortal and D4, then he's also able to influence the game in other ways. Cheng is also the former content patch lead on D3. Sure, he's not in control of the D4 project-- but it would seem there is some serious overlap and "respect" for him at Blizzard. Being able to move testers between games is a prime example of that relationship.

You must be referring to Raxxanterax correct?

Nonsense. Basically everyone who works at Blizzard in any technical capacity can invite whomever they want once it hits F&F alpha. I was in very early F&F alpha for WOTLK, SC2, Cata and D3 along with a ton of other people just because someone in our guild was a mid-level in-house QA person who eventually became QA lead for SC2. And once it went Beta, we each got 3-5 keys every couple weeks to give away.

Not relevant. The point is Cheng is sending personal invites to D4 testing. He's sticking his flat nose in.

God knows who is deferring to him on Diablo since he's a multi-decade lead on various fronts.

"D4" should never come out of Cheng's mouth. The utterance is an affront to the Diablo franchise.

Blizzard is feeling comfortable right now, and I'd guess they would be looking more toward Lost Ark in terms of how to monetize this game, over something like POE.

They won't leave money on the table. And you're a dense naive fuck if you think it's going to be POE, over something soft-win like Lost Ark's system.

D4 is Diablo's MMO debut. It's not going to draw from POE.

I mean it is relevant, a lot(every?) blizzard employee gets invites to give out. Back in the days, I got alpha F&F invites to vanilla/burning legion/wotlk because a friend worked in QA too, and that was just a random shmuck job that wasn't directly related to wow either. Every Blizzard employee gets invites, even whoever it is that's running Overwatch 2 now, and so obviously the Diablo Immortal guy also gets invites. It doesn't really mean he has any say in the actual game.

That said, he probably has a say in the monetization scheme to some extent, or at the very least whoever has the final say takes into account the Diablo Immortal numbers to shape their stuff around it. They are apparently keeping it as cosmetics only so they don't get blasted for the P2W thing and they know how much money they made in Overwatch doing just that, so it won't be too gamebreaking, nor it is surprising they're doing it since it was obvious they were gonna do it(iirc they already did that in China for D3?). Cosmetics+battlepass+box price is pretty scummy, but it is what it is in the current gamescape. What matters most imo is whether the game is made as a conduit to sell cosmetics or if it's made as a good game first and then they slapped ways on top to make additional money. Current blizzard would tend to gravitate towards the former.

You'll have to buy a whole reskin of the game to fix the color palette based on what we've seen so far.

There is great money in D4 cosmetics, I agree that much.

even blizzard is not that dumb to "leak" the heavy hitting MTX-s after the Immortal fiasco. They'll start with some easy cosmetic ones instead and then gradually add the real money makers. Or they might just add 78 different currencies like 2 weeks after launch without any prior indication.

The latter seems more likely - gotta pump those launch numbers, next FY revenues are somebody else's problem.

They should be discussing monetization tomorrow.

"This season design requires that all sources of character power come from playing the game, so you will not be able to pay for power in Diablo IV."

and

"The Season Pass has both free rewards (cosmetics, premium currency, and gameplay boosts) and paid rewards (cosmetics and premium currency only)."

We will see. "Premium currency", "Gameplay boost".

That gameplay boosts is questionsble. Hopefully it’s extra XP for alts.
