You are 10 min too late. Also, the best part of the cutscene is clearly when Marius pulls out the soulstone and Tyrael fucking insta teleports to him and says "You FOOL, your actions here today have doomed this world." We know that is the case since Baal causes the destruction of the Worldstone.

Except explaining that is LITERALLY the whole story of Diablo3. Leah was Diablo's daughter through the possessed hero and the witch Adria. It was always his plan to return through her after all the lords of hell had been captured in the black soulstone.

Clearly Leah didn't know her part in it, but Azmodan figured it out at some point and it came up during one of her visions.

The best part about this is that this video was released almost a year before the game came out....and it essentially spoils the whole plot! There wasn't any context at the time, so noone could really tell, but Azmodan was quite literally talking TO Leah as Diablo since he knew what she was even if she didn't:



It has all the clues in the video too. Including the lords that have already fallen into Diablo's scheme, Baal and Mephisto.

Eh, that part's kinda self explained by the fact Diablo simply takes the form of his host, since he's contained inside the gem, so I don't think it's that bad in that regard. The fact it was obvious like 10mins in the story that the woman who was having "terrifying nightmares" or had "mysterious powers" was gonna be Diablo was a lot more annoying to me than the fact Diablo had tits. They literally ruin their twist like 10mins in or whatever, it's so fucking obvious you think "oh wait maybe there will be an actual twist and she is NOT diablo". But nope, disapointment, just like the rest of the story. Act1 disapointment is Cain, Act2 I honestly can't even remember what happens pretty sure it's just filler, Act3 it's the entire Azmodan shit which has to be some of the worst writing ever and Act4 is the floppy dick reveal that yes, the character that was obviously Diablo is in fact, Diablo. But with tits, *dun dun dun*.

I did kinda like act5 though cause they didn't try random shit, it goes like "oh this angel be crazy" and then you kill the crazy angel, it's simple, to the point and it reveals a fair bit of lore of the world(including a lot of Lillith teasers which is why a fan theory a long time ago was that D4 would be a prequel set during the early years of the war when Lillith is still there and the Nephalems are at full power) in the process.

I think ultimately that's what Diablo story should be about. Evil rises, time to fucking kill it. Another evil rises, let's kill that fucker too. Don't need escort missions and protecting companions and whatever. You meet people in town, they have stories about the evil shit they've seen, then you go kill said evil, on your own(or with mercs that's fine I guess). Story should mostly be about new evil awakening and then maybe Tyrael getting his ass beat so you can step in and show him "the true worth of mortals" again so you don't get nuked from orbit by the Heavens' Exterminatus device. And then you kill some more. And maybe it's revealed at the end that Lillith was pregnant before being banished, but what happened of her true Nephalem child? And bam expansion set, old blood Nephalem versus new school Nephalem.

I'll take Lilith's Summoning over any of the cutscene's presented here for artistry and drama, the last two minutes are the best Blizz Cinematics has ever done. As for telling a piece of lore for the game / franchise? Not sure, but I think the D2's cinematic edges out Tyreal's sacrifice slightly.

That is sorta what I want to see, an "evil" Nephalem that we as the MC need to deal with, since as far as I know, we've never had to do that before (outside of a "test").

Welcome to Blizzard, both old and new. To this day I have no idea why it takes them so long to develop their games. They always take twice as long as everyone else with not a whole lot of evidence as to why. Take Diablo 2. That thing came out in 2000 and was literally 3 or 4 acts (can't remember how many exactly). It was 3 or 4 areas or levels if you will. But it came out in 2000 after a couple of delays for just that... I get it their games were polished, sure, but not so much so that you could see justification for the extra time.

Now it's even worse as the games are less polished at this point for sure, due to the exodus of the old guard. If development started in 2016, there is no reason this shit can't be out by late 2020 or early 2021 with as simplistic as the engine looks (Isometric, no need to fully render things if it's not fully 3D). I'm no fan of Activision, but I can't say that I blame them for looking at Blizzard and going "WTF are you guys doing over there?" With that said I don't care either way on the art direction, but I do not get why in 2019 we still have to be forced with isometric view. I know that makes me a heretic but can't we at least have the option to opt into 3rd person view OR isometric? I dunno I love loot games and this is definitely one of the better franchises. I loved 3. it had flaws sure, but overall it was awesome. But this is just eh...

D1 Warrior, who was D2's dark wanderer, is now suddenly also, the never mentioned previously older son of King Loric, older brother to the prince,who was sacrificed by the Bishop, jamming the soulstone into him, making him Diablo.
This now, new Prince, also fucked Adria, who was 100% cool in the old games, but is suddenly now evil. Which sure. blood raven was the Rogue from D1. People being corrupted by the Evils is a very diablo thing.. but, nope she was always evil. just hiding. also, like 30 years younger..

Belial and Leah stupidity, is just annoying as well. yes, we know your Belial. it was obvious. not sure why we are going along with this. Also, yes this black soul stone is very obviously going to turn Leah into Diablo. why are we doing this? It just comes off as stupid, not desperate. As we can make a similar argument about the worldstone from D2.

which then, the Worldstone. Tyreal smashes it, not us. But its presented as a clear act of desperation. at the time of course, its left massively open ended at what that will mean. Frankly, I still don't know after playing d3.. Whatever it was, it was a let down.

dumb shit nephelim garbage. someone here mentioned it was far more interesting as humanity being just humans, fighting back against this just otherworldly nightmare. Player characters being superheroes and everyone else slubs that don't matter is bullshit.

I got Paragon 100 in D3 pre expac only for it to be quickly trivialized in value, then grinded up to Paragon like 800 in hopes they'd finally have some real build diversity to play with. Nope.

I thought it was really cool that the Dark Wanderer, Blood Raven and The Summoner were the heroes from the previous game.

Real missed opportunity not having the D2 heroes come back in a similar way.

I think something that was never really well established in game, or built upon was the natures of the Prime evils.
meph-hatred, Baal- Destruction, Diablo-terror.

Meph commands the undead who hate life, goatmen who hate the pure, etc.
Baal commands an army to unmake reality.
Diablo commands dreams, ghosts, illusions, imps, etc.
They don't really like each other, and barely work together to stay above the lesser evils, Belial, andariel, duriel, etc.

Diablo 1 and 2 is a big deal because they are working together. Even the lesser evils.
So as noted, in D3, they are back to working against each other.

I think a game where the armies of the Evils are more themed would be interesting. Baal with an army. While, the minions of Diablo, hunt you. haunt you, attack from shadows, etc.
With meth it would be easy as adding men corrupted by zealtory and hate. and just adding voices to the undead/goatmen to enforce the theme.

a mechanic of the evils fighting eachother might be interesting, but also them fighting makes them less scary.

iirc, I am pretty sure the Wizard is not the Summoner. thats just a fan theory, not really backed up by any in game, or companion material. iirc, the lore says the Wizard started the Iron Wolves(the wizard mercs) but did disappear later. and thats all we got on him.
and yeah, warrior-dark wanderer is fine. sticking the soulstone into his forehead was even shown... Retconning him to be the Prince however is dumb. as it changes everything about D1 and D2.

hey remember when you kill your dad in D1? oh wait. no the warrior is not related to him at all clearly.

My guess is Blizzard is going this route with the story again since they are tying to go back to their D1/D2 roots. If you noticed in the D4 cinematic that the summoner is much taller than the priest when he pulls him towards him, and it is said that Nephilim are giants in various bible scriptures. So, my money is that the guy in the trailer is probably the hero at the end of D3 or Rathma because he thinks angels and demons are assholes now and he can only turn to the one being who wanted the Nephilim to thrive.

I never understood why this kind of thing happens. There are effectively an infinite number of decent stories that could be told without immersion-breaking revisionist history. It certainly wasn't inherently required to move forward in D3.

I'm curious how Blizz will make Lilith be the "bad guy", considering her existing lore. If they set her up as wanting to cull the weak from humanity, and rule the rest while shutting Sanctuary off from Heaven / Hell, that would make a bit of sense? Then we would be sent to Hell to free the only "accessible" Angel: Inarius, in hopes of him once again banishing Lilith (which I doubt he could since he should be much, much weaker now).
