I do not think encryption / security is how you disappear from the surveillance tech. You protect yourself as you move about amongst it, but that is way, way different from disappearing, as in, no longer being a manipulable and predictable object within a surveillance system. You leave enough non-secured tracks in your life (online and off) to reasonably deduce anything of interest in what you've secured / encrypted anyway.
I am operating this is the topic of this thread:

I use Safe-in-cloud.
I host the file myself remotely and nothing is stored on "Their" stuff because there isn't an option. You do you is their motto and it comes with stuff like password generation, warnings for repeat passwords for different sites. They have a firefox addon and a desktop app as well as an app for Android.
I think it was a one time unlock for the android app but it was more a "Toss a beer my way" than a "Features are behind this" thing.

I see your point absolutely and agree with you.
Definitely good first steps is to delete any social media that can be linked to you, and only sign up for social media using burner emails and never post anything that can ever be traced back. Use services to delete your personal info online. VPN and blockers to obfuscate your online presence data. Use Privacy.com cards for online purchases so they can’t link the credit card back to you or your home address. I’ve read how even using a fake name and address (like an Amazon locker) in Amazon, but using your real credit card info, can leak personal information.
Somewhere here I posted about a book called Privacy that I’m reading through. The guy is a genius and outlines step by step how to literally disappear, like using mail relay addresses, securing all tech, faraday bags when he gets within five miles of his house so his cell never contacts a tower when he’s home. Only ever call using a VOIP number ever so no one has your real cell phone, how to get utilities turned on for a trust instead of an individual, etc. It’s amazing shit. Always sounds paranoid until we need the privacy.

Did not mean to step on IT toes. I'm not *that* stupid. Just saying, the project can't just involve security and digital anonymity.
So the goal is to leave as little tracks as possible -- digital or otherwise. That is a HUGE task.
But it gets smaller if you break it down into categories, right? Like let's say you do not want anyone to know what you buy. Just out of principle, say, I do not want CVS Hivemind to know I buy 2 for 1 oatmeal from them all the time, because drug stores always are dumping food product they are required by law to carry but do not really sell much of (see "how to live like a cheap piece of shit" -- I pop into Walgreen's, CVS and Rite Aid. You need those little cards.... hmmm).
I could dump the card, only pay cash. But the vids have plenty of footage of my car etcetc etc.
So for this limited task, I think you do a decent disappearing act if you:
1) hire on a neighbor kid to do store runs for you. have the kid get the cards.
2) pay it all in cash, naturally. If you trust the parent, the parent could be the go-between for the modest task as an added buffer.
3) do not give the kid or parent a cell phone number of course. Arrange another goddam method to contact the kid. Learn semaphore. shoot a flaming arrow into their front yard when you need eggs.
I do not think you could surveil this unless you were being watched closely. It's "safe house" protocol, too.
I'm willing to be proven wrong, but I don't see how encryption and security online keeps you from being tracked. Unless we are strictly interested in the content of electronic data. But then the data is only as secure as the person you share it with.

Just using the same IP as you once used to sign into certain services (google) is enough for them to track you with the ad/browser stuff. And that's not even to mention the possibility of state/other actors breaching your devices and it's like the gov is standing behind you watching everything you do. And then there's stuff like Venmo which if you attached your bank account, your actual bank account transaction history is captured.
You may be able to obfuscate your general presence from the internet, but not completely.

I kind of lead to that direction. See, what is the threat? I am ruling out some Pinochet/Pol Pot primal blood purge police state. I am assuming the status quo. Under current or near-term conditions, how many and what specific threats are we dealing with? In some cases obfuscation might take care of what you want to "protect."
Sorry I lack specific technical know-how like many do. I'm assuming we are also having a bit of fun here, speculating diff ways of disappearing from the digital tracking system, which is assembled not just on the current device I am using now, but doorbells, parking lot cameras, intersection traffic light cameras (see above Palantir), all able to be digested into single massive mega data package.

That's why this is so fascinating as well as scary. This has been assembled for a long, long time, this "surveillance machine" that basically could, I am guessing geographically pinpoint 90% of the population of the US in > 30 minutes.
