I have the marksmanship cure skills on my wayfarer. I am only level 6 right now, but these skills have proven very useful in the last couple of fights. I keep the wayfarer in mid range between my mage and my knight tank/madora. She uses the spider to draw damage away from the melee characters, plinks away with her bow, throws heals out when needed and runs up to cure cripple/disease/poison.

My knight started with a point in 2hander, but now uses 1 handed and a shield. Block is at 20% right now, which really increases the amount of abuse he can take. Coupled with his bandage skill he is great at keeping things busy. He has thick skin, picture of health and opportunist and focuses on constitution and +hp gear.

Madora is focusing on strength and speed in terms of gear bonuses. She gets things done and is the primary damage dealer by far.

Jahan does lots of CC and guaranteed dmg that wont miss. Also throws out a heal or two.

I am sure the party could be doing a lot more damage, but it is very hard to put anyone down for good. I think I have only had to use one resurrection scroll so far and I just knocked out pontious.

Just got lvl 5 crafting on Jahan and it's pretty nice. As mentioned before you can make spellbooks but you can start using Tormented Souls and Elemental Essences.

Tormented Souls + Weapon = 2STR and DEX boost on the weapon, doesn't stack.
Armor + Ruby = 20% resist for Fire/Air/Water/Earth, doesn't stack.
Elemental Essence + Armor or Shield = 10% resist boost on used essence, doesn't stack but you can use 4 different elemented for at 10% boost across the spectrum.
Elemental Essence or Vial of Poison + Weapon = Small 12 to 19 damage boost of used essence/poison. Each Weapon can have 2 extra damage boosters so if a weapon already has bonus earth damage you can only add 1 more kind of elemental damage. Just be aware that zombies can heal from poisons and so can fire mobs from fire etc.

Plate Scraps can be used on armor but it's a small armor buff like 6AC. Can use Pearls on armor to raise their value before selling. No idea if there's a tormented souls equivalent that boosts INT for casters.

Can't get my rogues or rangers to perform as well as my two-handed tanks. I've got four different playthroughs going (only really continuing with two of them) and it's the same situation in each one: if I've brought a bow or dagger character, they suck. If I haven't, the game is so much easier. 1h+shield fighters are alright but shields don't really seem good enough to compensate for the loss of damage, nor is the added survivability from blocking really needed because the big threats are spells and environmental damage. If something hits hard, I just cast Fortify.
No experience with Rangers in this game yet, but if you are finding rogues under-powered you might be going about them wrong. Mobs don't turn around on your turn (well sometimes; this is a little buggy but it is EXTREMELY rare that they turn around on your turn) which means your rogue can basically always backstab, with 100% chance to hit and what seems like a much higher chance to critical as well on top of the native 2X multiplier. My rogue probably kills 3 times as many mobs as my 2 handed knight does and he is using an artifact level weapon vs. my rogues green rapier.

Unlike some of the others above, I use pretty much all scoundrel skills, though she is also my archer and has some of that kit as well for barrel busting etc. They are, however, pretty damn squishy so positioning is pretty key, but once you are used to setting them up for success they will utterly melt most foes.

Really? That makes sense actually as to why it is so rare as I 'think' it is 100% hit chance without being under negative mods from curse etc. Good catch Caliane!

Just started this and hit a problem with the Fabulous Five quest.

I joined the F5 guild, got the quest to kill Arhu's robot. Ive done so, returned to town, Mendius is gone and guides online tell me to speak with the Mayor but he doesnt have any dialogue options related to the quest. Arhu acknowledges that Ive killed it when I speak with him but the Mayor isnt cooperating. Anyone else have this issue or know a workaround? Im assuming I missed something or didnt speak to someone before killing it

its not 100% chance to hit though. heartless trait is even +20% chance to hit on backstabs.

But you do likely still have a very high hit chance on your rogue from dex, and scoundrel iirc.

I didnt join them. but "completed" the quest by talking to the survivor who joined the Legionaries. He is in the prison under the Legion offices. Dunno if that will help you, but worth mentioning I think.

I gave that a try and the guard did talk to me and I received exp but my Journal didnt update and the Mayor still has nothing for me. Quest is not flagged as complete. Im ocd enough about quest logs that Im tempted to start over...

My Ranger was so horrific and useless that I re-started my main game. Rangers suck. Their best starting ability (Richochet) has a retardely long cooldown; they have LOS issues that don't plague spell-casters; their overall damage is incredibly low compared to both melee and casters; and they have zero effective utility; they are squishy. I felt like I was playing with 3 characters and 1 gimp. I am playing on Hard so maybe the effectiveness is not as marked on Normal - but for Hard you really need all your characters to be, well, not shitty.

Rangers. Ugh - what a letdown.

(P.S. Mob Rangers are awesome because they seem to come with an infinite supply of freezing, exploding arrows. I suppose if that was true for your Ranger too they might be better...)

I started knight/ranger - and my ranger seems to miss alot unless really close, but my knight kinda kicks ass, so i guess since im roughly an hour in this is a good time to restart and pick something else other than ranger.

I rolled a Knight and witch first time playing. Pretty fun/easy combo but once I got the companions (as mentioned in this thread) that were basically the same classes I rerolled. Going with Rogue and Wizard this time....almost back to where I was the first game. Game is pretty damn fun despite the bugs. Traits are very cool but should be a bit easier to understand and plan out. F5 and F8 keys are getting a heavy work out.

I, for one, have not had any issues with my ranger-like character. I suppose it depends how you play it and what you intend to get from it.
My ranger is not just ranged DPS. Its a scoundrel, pick pocket, sneaker, lock picker, barterer, scroll and elemental arrow collector, etc... Several battles where my tank was bogged down or status locked fighting 2+ mobs, my ranger was key in keeping others mobs knocked down, stunned, poisoned, etc... And if ever in real danger, had three get out of jail free skills like Invisibility, Cloak and Dagger, etc...

To each their own.

Edit: Remember, later in the game you will be able to respec your characters. So if you are anywhere close to completing the first map, I'd suggest not re-doing all of it and simply wait till then.

I did the same thing. Dropped the ranger and restarted with a rogue and cleric instead. Rogue is so fun to haste/invis then backstab right from the get-go. Ranger was so underwhelming I didn't even want to play him anymore once I reached the first town. Having much more fun this time (if that's even possible...this game is great!) and looking forward to getting my 2 companions to round out the classes I have at my disposal.

Are clerics beasts all the way through the main story? Mine uses a 2hander and mows mobs down. I also opted to take both the minor heal spell and the instant heal at creation so not only does she do great dps, she can take a beating (of course this is all against mobs before/in the first town so I'm sure it gets harder).

Yeah same way i use my ranger , barter/id/repairer and use the other 3 for laying down the law..hell even my wizard tends to just buff now with fire/earth spells while my air/water does heals/cc and my 2 hander wrecks shit with those op aoe attacks. Although her phoenix dive does no damage but it plants me right in the middle of packs and just whirl away. Im fine with that really , also i keep tons of special arrows for even more cc. Fun game , really enjoying it.

Has the game been patched already? Larian games usually are horribly buggy and I don't want to buy it if it's still pretty rough.
