Ugh... It was watchable but that's all. Science fiction, when it is topical and poignant yet still not paper thin (eg., "1984" "Level 7"...) is important and fun. Yet somehow this show is neither. Not for lack of acting talent and budget, that's for sure. This episode looked and sounded great. It was not a particularly highbrow concept. "Damn kids spent too much time on the internet, dang it!").
The Doctor's reason for being there is never explained. In fact, he kinda/could have/should have just spun the Tardis back a little bit and prevented the whole disaster, regardless of the circumstances of Dot. It doesn't matter-- it was not a brilliant or original trope. It was not well fleshed out at all. We are given an anti-hero protagonist that we are supposed to hate from the beginning. No redemption for the character is possible in the episode. No conflict in the story. No resolution to the plot. Just someone pretty for us, as audience to hate. Good thing for that (no spoilers) ending. We needed that to disdain her...

Best part of the damn show is the closing credits theme. They shouldn't even play the preview over it.

I cringed. Multiple times. It is really sad because there was a really good episode, with really good characters, in there (once again). It is all somewhere beneath the over-the-top, rub-it-in-you-face like you would a dog to his own piss, gay-ness.
This episode had good characters, it had a solid plot, it had a recognizable setting, new, itriguing villains with new conflicts-- but YET AGAIN, it had to be desecrated in order to wave homosexuality like a bonfire on a beach!!! Or, more analogously, like the northern lights, or an exploding supernova?!? The banner-waving added NOTHING to the story! You can have heteroosexual and homosexual and pansexual characters in a story, but none of those MAKE a story. When that happens, it has another name (wait for it...).
This was terrible!!! Not for the plot, not because of the visuals, not for what they are doing to the fifty plus years of the Doctor's character(s); but beause this season consistently derails potentially solid and poignant narratives and stories over and over and over again! Even if you are trying, ever-so-desperately, to enjoy the underlying science fiction; it is impossible. It's like having a fog horn blown in your ear at uneven intervals while trying to be mindful.
I can't win. if I like the show, and the basic DNA of Doctor Who, then I am a total ass-hole for continuing to watch it. Further, if I am invested in the incredible amount of talent and budget and story-telling (and a generation or two of what really IS at it's heart a cheesy show with predominantly solid sci-fi plots), then, yet again, I AM AN ASS-HOLE for putting up with it being desecrated.
I am wasting my time on what has become nothing less than shiny PROPAGANDA!
BBC is being raped and sodomized over and over and over again by RTD. This is no longer a television show. Even though there are (quite literally) thousands of people working their asses off to give it high production values and standards. There are some very smart people making this season appear beautiful. But this is the complete ANTITHESIS of what Doctor Who IS!
This is blatant propaganda. I am pissed. And no one can "out" these facts and/or criticize or critique the show. That would be bigotry!
I actually feel emparthy for the hard workers at BBC who make this show happen, because I am assuming that a large preponderance of them (set-workers, lighting personnel, digital arts technicians, etc etc etc) have no idea that the end-product is being co-opted into brain-warping bullshit.

what the bloody hell were you expecting? this show was to be cancelled after The Dawktah left the show, but it was rezzed by Disney and they rezzed it for a reason. Disney only does "MESSAGE" based entertainment for the last 5 years. how did you not notice until today? you get the DIsney quality production, but you have to watch beloved IPs become gay and lame. things were so much better when the baddie was a guy in a rolling trashcan with toilet plunger and egg whisk for limbs.

Its the same reason they won't take the older episodes and put them on Disney either, it doesn't pander enough. Even Captain Jack Harkness got cancelled and had to be outgayed by Rogue.

the actor who played Capn Jack was really an incredible person. he may have been queerer than a three dollar bill, but he had presence and wasnt a flaming faggot twirling around in a pretty dress. i wouldnt have watched every episode of Torchwood if i did.

At one convention I learned that if you ever see a scene with him that doesn't show the bottom half of the actors .... his dick is out. Especially if it's a scene with someone else. The gayness is the only reason he got away with it for so long. He'd slap his dick on a costar's shoulder while she was in makeup. They'd freak out OMG A DICK. Wait, he's gay, that means it's funny. I respect the way he played the game. I always wondered if he was just pretending to be gay to get away with that shit.

Incoherent plot, villian is killed by attaching a rope to his dog collar and the TARDIS so that the opening credits can kill him, every choice is conflict free woke boredom, unearned overly triumpant ending.

Trying so hard to be different yet the best it can pull off is pandering to a Tom Baker era villain and being derivative?
And did we really need MORE of the doctor crying, when he clearly doesn't give a shit about people dying all around him?
And what did all the "high stakes" of the set-up amount to? A hot mess with a lot of unexplained foreshadowing. It's not even worth it to type all the stupidity.
Painful.
