But it made me think Smith's leaving was unexpected as they really tried to wrap up every major plot in 60 minutes.
I believe this is actually true in a way. He was always planning on leaving at this time but there was supposed to be 2 seasons and instead we ended up with one split season of 6 and 6 or whatever it was instead of two full seasons because of the way it all worked out. So his date came up but not the number of seasons they were expecting.

-I kinda wonder who the voice was they had saying "Doctor Who?" from the Time Lords. I feel like I should know this.
It sounded like the war commander from the 50th.

Out of sheer random boredom while surfing Netflix I popped on 'Rose' to revisit the start of the modern series and just happened to notice something:

In the Xmas special Clara is living in the same estate apartments as Rose and Jackie.
most of those estates look the same as stated above. The Cyberman Ship corridor/door was the same used for the ship in Night of the Doctor too.

The real mindfuck is that Clara's mother dies the same day "9" takes Rose. not sure if that was discussed earlier in the year, i forget if i posted the pic.

"We all change, when you think about it. We're all different people, all through our lives. And that's okay, that's good, you've got to keep moving so long as you remember all of the people that you used to be." - The 12th Doctor

Damn, such a profound message. And when I do think about it, it's true.

I will miss the 12th.

He'll always be the Eleventh to me, but yeah I really liked Matt Smith and hope the new guy does good.

Ya, it will be hard to tell until his first full episode. I accepted Matt Smith in the role very quickly after the 1st full episode he was in. It took me longer to accept Tennet's Doctor.

While Tennant is my favorite modern Doctor, I agree. Hopefully Capaldi gets an episode as bad ass as Eleventh Hour was and more specifically a scene like this:

Same here. I had my doubts about all 3 and was wrong about each of them. I think Capaldi is going to be one of the best ever, so lets hope my track record doesn't bite me in the ass.

Its not gone. And with how much shit was crammed into that christmas episode, I'm kinda glad they didn't bother with Valeyard.

Capaldi has to have something to do!

Capalldi's entrance seems to imply to me that he's gotten his brain reset back to Hartnell as well - since Hartnell didn't know how to pilot it for quite a while.

Somewhat makes sense that the reset button would work that way, no?

Time of the Doctor was a steaming pile of shit. Perhaps I had super high expectations due to the masterpiece that was day of the doctor.

Clara was annoying, for an impossible girl who was or will be in one timeline able to be a darlek and still remain in control, to some regular ditsy earth skank who is worried about a fake boyfriend for Christmas dinner, pure tripe.

Cyber men and daleks might as we'll be storm troopers at this point, they are absolutely no threat. Theft sieged trenzzerlore for what 600 years (300 x 2?) vs a tardis less doctor with no luck? Makes the tme war seem ludicrous, how can the entire darlek race be a threat when they are so easily thwarted with seemingly no effort in this episode.

So the time lords wanted to come back through the time crack, but wanted to make sure the doctor was there so it would be safe? Yet they are convinced enough that he is there to give him more regenerations but not enough to save them selves? Oh by the way to destroy the darleks all you have to do is have one single time lord regen? So pretty much any of them could have saved they day by dieing?

In dotd 13s eyes stemmed menacing and serious but in totd 13 seem led like a bumbly oaf, I guess it makes some sense for a hard reset but I hope it changes quickly, I want to see a hard ass 13 like we know he can be.

Also, what happened to the truth field at the end? He told not barnabuss he had a plan then told Clara he did not.

I am due for a rewatch as I am sure I missed some stuff (pro tip, don't watch Dr Who with your family over the holidays if they have never seems a n episode) but I'd much rather watch dotd for a 6th time.

It was the papal mainframe helping to hold off all the races, not just the doctor btw. A handful would sneak through to attempt to assassinate the doctor, with no luck. Finally, the daleks had enough reinforcements to take out most of the papal mainframe by themselves.

I agree they did downplay the strength of some of the doctor's biggest enemies. The angels could have been cut entirely, they had practically no role in the conflict. It was too much in too little time. It was as if they wrote it with a checklist 'ok, matt smith's final episode, did we acknowledge A, B and C plot points yet?'. There was no time for us to become invested in anything. Didn't care about the town, didn't care about Clara in this episode, etc..

I really hope Capaldi isn't reset back to Hartnell and not knowing how to fly the TARDIS at all. I'd get really frustrated with a dumb doctor. He can act silly and dumb, but secretly knowing everything is the best part about him.

I feel like you're reading far too much into Capaldi's line.

Do you know how to fly this thing is more of a joke than any sort of foreshadowing. It's a running theme with the doctor regenerating that he goes through a period of confusion, sometimes intense, as he adjusts.

It's the whole fish sticks and pudding thing.

Edit: He also lied through the truth field telling Clara that he wouldn't send her away again... then boom, sent her away.

And The Master could see through Perception Filters. Time Lords aren't so simple. They just play that way.

I didn't have any problem with it. As for Capaldi, yeah...lets wait for the first ep before we jump the gun on anything.

Its theory but it would make sense with the regen reset and picking a similar age actor though.

When's the series start anyhow?

Well to be fair, didn't he tell her he wouldn't send her away again when they were standing inside the TARDIS? Or am I mistaken? Truth field probably couldn't touch them in there.
