I was ok with the River's parents things, because it sort of cemented them as being the Doctor's family, which made it much more tragic when he lost them all.

Some of the more interesting sub characters are the weaker ones..I agree with that.

Maybe they'll move back to using the companions for short story arcs instead of using them for companions. I seem to remember that the older ones really didn't last very many shows. Not really. They'd come and go pretty quickly. Romana, K-9, and Teegan lasted a really long time... but other than that they were in and out in less than 12 episodes. Or so it felt to younger me. You'd start to get to like one and pop! away they go, back to their lives. From what I remember, at least. Which isn't a lot.

They need to bring someone like Romana v1 back. You can Godmode another Timelord and be fine with it. Like they do with Missy. While I liked Bad Wolf, Doctor Donna, and Impossible Girl you can't just keep raising the bar like that and -not- have it require a complete reset at some point sooner rather than later.

The grandeur should be with The Doctor. His companions should basically be hobbits. Whatever troubles they have, while serious in a real world practical way, are not the timey-wimey fate of the universe meta troubles that The Doctor faces. I say that, but I did like Bad Wolf, Doctor Donna, and Impossible Girl. I just don't see that you can keep that up forever. The seasonal or multi-seasonal arc is The Doctor tackling a Doctor problem. The individual episode arcs are The Doctor helping with his companions problems, and the cleverness is in how the big and the small feed one another. Stuff like that.

I am in the middle of season 7. Clara just started, Jenna Coleman definitely is pleasant on the eyes.

Did the Master just tickle a Dalek's balls? Words I'd never thought I'd need to think about...

Yeah, really digging the feel of this new season so far. I know its been asked a bunch but are these the first episodes actually written FOR Capaldi? I knew I heard some of last season was still originally intended for Smith but I wasn't sure. Off to a good start, either way.

Not only was that scene awesome. It was the Doctor as a Dalek. Instead of being inside the tank, twisted and deformed he's outside of it playing the guitar being the Doctor.

Clara was you Chris. She kept asking why.

Solid opener. Missy tagging along is fun, so I hope we see plenty of her this season ;p

I'll give The Master a pass but how is Davros still alive, how many times have they done this "Davros is alive but defeated in some sort of isolated space station"? It's at least the 3rd. Not even a "oh you survived" this time.

Why does Davros have a snake guy doing his bidding when he is famous for building the Daleks? Why the cameos of places we never gave a shit about because they were built up to nothing like Shadow Proclaimation? Why fuck up the timeline of some sort of medieval fighting arena? This all seemed like stupid filler.

How is Skaro's past now not time locked? Why is being there so shocking when they have been there loads of times including it being in ruins a few seasons ago and the planet has been destroyed and reintroduced several times. Pretty sure they had normal land mines there too because the 4th Doctor fucking stepped on a land mine on Skaro.

Did they sell enough toys of the new Daleks to abandon them now? Seems like every Dalek episode has tons of classic models for nostalgia now even though their own storyline should have killed them all off.

Why are The Doctor and The Master now best friends when The Master is still a crazy murderer? I know they had some sort of weird relationship but remember all the nasty stuff she did JUST LAST EPISODE!?

Just a little continuity please, they have tons of time if they tone down the ridiculous shark jumping shit... re using all those old clips must have made them realise that they need continuity for that to work in the first place?

If you watched the final ep of last season, it was really obvious that Missy Teleported away instead of got disintegrated. They were 2 different color visual effects.

And for the other stuff, yes you're right, but I think they're just doing a soft reset.

I get the feeling that Capaldi is gonna be a little bit more like Tom Baker. The Doctor does some truly crazy shit off camera.

And The Master/Doctor dynamic of friendship has been there since Tennant. In the pre-hiatus series they were just straight up rivals. But then in the pre-hiatus Time Lords were also just the British Royal Navy with super powers. Remember that whole tiny Tennant in the monkey cage thing and the "I still believe that I can save my friend"?

It would not at all surprise me if the next doctor, or the one after, regenerates INTO the Master. Just because trolololols. (I don't think they actually would). I think that's an ancient fan-theory itself.

I remember the Tennant/Master thing and this seems nothing like that, Capaldi seemed way too jovial/handwavy of it whereas Tennant took it super serious and it was a big deal that he wanted The Master to travel with him.

To be fair, if Capaldi was truly ready to die, why would he really fight that hard if The Master choose to tag along? "Fuck it, I'm dying anyways...." in other words.

The ironic thing, though, is the Doctor is also a mass murderer, although not psychopathic (he does have empathy/remorse).

My first thought when I read that post too. But that's the issue. Too many old vs new fans. The Master has more than once jumped to the Doctor's side, especially in The Five Doctors where he flat out stated he wouldn't let the Doctor die, and the very idea was abhorrent to him. There's another post up above where someone speculates whether Missy is redeemable or not. There's no such thing as redemption with the Master, he doesn't want it. Hence the name. I think it was Simm's Master in fact that said it's his right to impose his will upon the Universe as a Time Lord. Besides which, I think she answered that question much better when Clara accused her of being good so she vaporized a couple folks.
