Something I wasn't totally clear on because of all the timey wimey nature of the show. Were they insinuating that the doctor not saving Davros is what caused the whole Dalek's to be created/time war etc?

We don't know yet. Perhaps what he does in the next episode is what creates Davros. It's the 40th anniversary of almost inarguably the greatest year of Doctor Who. I think this is just a "best of" that season because the Zygons are back and so is Sutekh supposedly. This is their Genesis of the Daleks. I think we will just a get a newly revived Davros in the end of the next ep but no major changes.

After that 10 minute prologue on Friday "The doctor's meditation", my DVR caught the beginning of another Who episode with capaldi that I didn't remember. I can't find any schedules online that go back in time. Anyone got any idea which episode it was? It started with a couple people on a ship being shot at by a large saucer (Dalek ship I think). The girl ended up in the tardis asking capaldi where the other guy was.

I think the "innocent" kid thing will just be an act and Davros will be evil even as a kid. It wouldn't half surprise me if he was intentionally going out and trying to convince folks he was a lost kid, only to lure them to their doom.

I do think the idea that Davros will manipulate the situation to allow him to discover how to cheat his death is very plausible. He knows the Doctor well enough to know what buttons to push, but knows in the end that the Doctor will allow his compassion weakness to try to find the "happy" solution.

That could be. Something did seem fishy about it. Like wtf is this random kid on a battlefield.

I think that was the insinuation. The Doctor left Davros to die in the hand field, but then Davros didn't die. So that's the Doctors regret. It's either that he didn't kill Davros or that he didn't save him. He regretted just freaking out and running away without making a choice, I guess.

And no doubt he'll shoot the hands or something and be all like, "Ok kid! Don't be evil now!"

It's best not to worry about time-related plot issues with Who and just go along with the story. The snake guy looking for the Doctor presumably had access to time travel, so if Davros really wanted to find the Doctor he would have had a pretty good idea when and where to look for him i.e. just after any of the many times Davros tried and failed to kill him. Then again, if Davros was looking for him, the Daleks seem to have already found him seeing as the axeman was a Dalek agent. And maybe the boy isn't a boy at all, but a decoy...

no. Davros challenged the Doctor to admit compassion was wrong. The Doctor DID the compassionate thing, and saved him.

Yeah, but the scene shows the Doctor in the mist, and then Davros saying "You said you were going to help me!" and then the ep starts with the sound of the Tardis turning on and Davros still in the field. And then the episode ends with Davros turning around and saying, "How did you do that? You were over on the other side".

That's just the way I read the entire thing, that the Doctor missed a step and just ran away without deciding to save or destroy. And Davros, remembering that moment, tells the Doctor to admit that it WOULD have been better to kill the young boy (That's even what the clip with Tom Baker was about, a very pointed reference). So the doctor goes back to the field and says, "EXTERMINATE!!!" But of course he's not going to shoot little Boy Davros in the face. He'll do something else.

Which will wind up creating Davros and the Daleks anyway, because that's how the show works.

I don't know which episode they pulled that Tom Baker clip from, but I bet if you watched that story arc -- I will bet you that this story arc will rely on it and lean on it pretty heavily. In a tonal way, not a plot way.

And you've got the Master in the mix too. Who at this point is basically "Bad Kirk". In their Dr. Who way they're tackling a moral dilemma and an ethical question, and it's one that they've tackled before. But I don't think you're gonna see a revisit of Tennant playing Space Jesus or Smith raising his Coalition of the Willing to stand vigilant against the Great Evil. I think you're gonna see Capaldi written more sternly, like Baker sometimes was.

At least I hope so. Because I really do think it's time, and they've been moving that direction. Not "gritty, HARDCORE! Daaaaark and eeeeedgyyyy" like American bullshit. But more like Grimms Fairy tales instead of British-Disney fairy tales (Amelia Pond! <3 ).

Yeah it was called Genesis of the Daleks. Starts with the Time Lords hijacking the transmat and sending him to Skaro. They order him to either stop or delay the creation of the Daleks. He steps on a landmine too a few minutes later. It was Davros first ep and still holds up well today.

Davros also had some assistant in that episode who looked like a nazi. Wish they'd reuse that character someday he scared the shit out of me as a kid.

i would say this was a fantastic episode, but that prolonged rockstar scene, really irritated me. i was like "fuck yooooooouuu!", but then it eventually ended and it was back to being awesome. i was wondering why the doctor didnt just toss a bunch of old clothes at those handmines to grab and the kid could just walk the fuck out of there? i guess shooting them with a gun was the best they could come up with. oh and yeah, i dont think davros is dying, i mean he died many times and is still chugging along. it was all just a ruse. just like blowing up the tardis, no way you can blow something like that up indoors, specially something that has a power source equal to the Earth's Sun. i also like the snake dude's movement, very snakelike, similarly like the shissar(?) in Luclin.

In rewatching the Genesis of the Dalek episode, Sarah Jane's line about them eventually fighting with bows and arrows kind of makes that scene in the opener a nice Easter-egg

Pretty good conclusion. The Doctor's 'chair' had me laughing. Missy is just all sorts of awesome.

I liked the bit with the Dalek armor interpreting different thoughts in different ways than expected. I was thrown off slightly by the Doctor being surprised at the Dalek seeking mercy, though. Then I remembered the Dalek that was screaming mercy was saying it to River Song previously.

I really thought they were going to wrap Clara in that episode. They got her inside the Dalek, all they needed was a time vortex and they could have put her back in the first episode she appeared in with Smith, where she was an insane dalek.

Was predicting that was going to happen since we know she's leaving this season - was shocked when it got undone - I really wonder if there's something that's going to loop within the season back to it so she ends how she began - since they've liked doing that with companions.

Didn't think in that way. But, I do think this was their means to explain it.
They got her genetic sample, and/or Doctor regeneration.
