LOL, did you just get a chat ban? I can't see how mine was from reports when the game in question it was a teammate that was going crazy but does Valve have chat monitoring? Anyway, pretty hilarious at times having no way to talk and 4 latins going nuts over what you are doing.

Yeah, in between games tonight I was muted. I used to get muted sometimes and then somehow I wasn't for several months. No big deal since I usually play with people on mumble. It'll suck more for the team which is why the system makes no sense.

Right, that's why I said it's stupid earlier as it's more a detriment to the team than anything else as all you can do is ping. Or can they not even see your pings?

They can still see pings but you can only ping so much and it'll go on a short cooldown so you don't spam it.

So I just joined a game where somebody quit the game. after it was safe to leave I left as well. Queue right back up and get the same asshole on my team. This game has the worse MM ever. How do you get to queue up right after quitting a game?

maybe there was someone in the party he didn't want to be with. i know i leave when that happens.

even when a team chooses something crazy like 4/5 cores or picks medusa for ancient i will leave before first blood

They keep track of # of games since your last abandon, if you play enough games between leaves you get a freebie here and there, its not automatic punishment if your account has good enough standing before the abandon. Even if you leave like nu_11 says - it will count against your account - you may just not be punished for it depending on your history/total games played.

Its an exact number of games. Watch streamers that quit a lot of games (such as arteezy), they actualy count back to the last game they abandoned when they wanna abandon again.

for the folks who are solo queuing ranked games, how are things working out for you? i've given up any hopes of trying to break 3k at this point. i just get on a stretch of games where there are literally at least 2 feeders on my team. how am i suppose to make up for that dead weight? =/

I started at 2800, rose to 3100 dropped to 2600 in a week :/ Back up to ~2800 now.

I found the captains modes to be worse, invariably the captain is a moron or a player spams one hero name repeatedly (usually a poor one).

I found it's playing CD on the right day and time (prime time). Less variable in team mmr and worse case scenario is taking the cpt hat for myself. I got back to 4000 (about where I think I should be) that way. As soon as I play off hours though, bam, 3700 again.

Captains draft/mode in the 4000s is great if you are comfortable on a lot of heroes. There are vastly more English speakers (since the whole reason foreigners queue on US servers is they don't want to wait) and you can usually trust the captain to at least pick a lineup that has some thought behind it and can theoretically win. You also don't have to deal as much with professional rats or people who abuse the strongest heroes every game.

The biggest issue I tend to see is people coming over from AP and not being able to handle the role they are left with. If you only want to play in a particular role, please don't solo queue for a game mode where there is a good chance you won't be able to. Even if you do, for the love of god don't spend all game pouting about it.

The biggest problem I see is servers aren't region locked (player drops / excessive lag) and the queue needs to be split between solo and group (non-client coms) queue. They already split the mmr, might as well go all the way.

Communication wins games, if you insist on running non-client coms don't punish those outside your stack for it.

Depends, if people don't take time to chat, they usually watch the map and simple pinging can be enough. Some of my biggest stomps were with very little communication, everyone knew what to do.
