Well I did very medicore in my predictions:

-Got NP
-Picked Odd instead of DC (Odd failed badly)
-Picked SG (they came in 2nd)
-Got Team Secret (easiest pick)
-Picked Mouz (they came in 2nd)
-Picked Na'Vi (holy shit this was bad in retrospect, Vega was my 2nd thought, Empire I didn't really think was a possibility)
-Picked LGD for 1st and IG.V for third (they were swapped)
-Got LGD.FY
-Picked Faceless for 1st (they fucking let me down)
-Picked TNC for 2nd (they got first)
-Picked Clutch for 3rd (fucking Execration)

Sooooo, 3 out of 12 with a couple that were close. This is why I don't bet IRL.

You have to feel bad for Team Freedom though. They had the same 8-1 record that pushed TNC/Secret/NP direct to TI, but they lost what was probably the most important game of those players lives in the Bo1 tiebreaker vs NP. The only reason they didn't go straight to TI is cause they dropped one game in the Round Robin to Team Fucking IxMike88.... the shame.

Clock got destroyed, SK nerfed too, but NS got only a slap on the wrist imo. Lina is also noticeably weaker, puck still seems to be in prime shape for TI. Ench might make a comeback in pushing lineups, since the heal is no slouch anymore.

The 2017 – 2018 Competitive Season | Dota 2
http://blog.dota2.com/2017/07/the-2017-2018-competitive-season/
In just six weeks, a new world champion will emerge from Seattle, and for the Aegis bearers and fallen challengers alike, resurgent dreams of success in the upcoming year will already begin to take hold. But the road to The International 2018 will chart a different course through the coming competitive season.

In the past year, we’ve had two Valve Majors shape the competitive landscape leading to The International. However, for the next year we will be taking a more organic approach to growing the competitive ecosystem, working more closely with third-party tournaments. Instead of the previous Major system, we will be selecting many third-party tournaments to directly sponsor. Additionally, players competing in these tournaments will earn Qualifying Points which will be the sole factor in determining invites to The International 2018.

There will be two tiers of tournaments that we sponsor: Majors and Minors. Majors must have a minimum prize pool of $500k, and will receive an additional $500k towards the prize pool from us. Minors must have a minimum prize pool of $150k, and will receive an additional $150k towards their prize pool. In order to ensure a baseline level of competitiveness, and to support teams from different regions around the world, both Majors and Minors will be required to have at least one qualifier from each of the six primary regions (NA, SA, SEA, CN, EU, and CIS). In addition, Majors and Minors must have a LAN finals component to their tournament in order to accommodate teams from the different regions. We will directly manage the schedule of Majors and Minors to help avoid collisions during the year.

Qualifying Points will be awarded based on the total prize pool of a tournament, and whether the tournament is a Major or a Minor, with Majors giving more points per prize pool dollar. The total points per tournament will also partially scale based on the time of year, with tournaments closer to The International awarding additional points. Qualifying Points will be granted based on placing high in Majors and Minors and will accumulate on individual players. Roster lock seasons will still exist, and players switching teams during the approved periods will retain their Qualifying Points. In order to allow for teams recruiting new entrants to the competitive landscape and to facilitate sometimes necessary roster changes between lock periods, only the top 3 point earners on a team will contribute towards a team’s effective total Qualifying Points.

To help teams and fans keep track of standings throughout the year, a leaderboard of individual player Qualifying Points and team Qualifying Point Rankings will be available for everyone to follow along with as teams fight their way towards next year’s International. Best of luck to the teams competing in August, and we look forward to the upcoming season once a champion is crowned.

I really think that is good news. It'd be better if they were doing a little more than $500k, like maybe $1M minimum still, and allowing those tournaments to get back in the compendium / chest game. But really I think this is how the system should have been set up from the start. DAC, Starladder, Epicenter, etc... were so well established it just seemed natural for Valve to partner with them and make an official system. Hopefully this helps the community, seems like a good step.

The pools are lower than the Majors, but it also means more tournaments overall, so consistency would be rewarded.

Seems pretty good, solves both the third party tournament issue and the teams not knowing who is going to TI. The one potential issue particularly in the first year is that teams now need to attend every LAN they can to accrue points. Further, it gives power over TI invites to third parties who as they hold control over invites, a perfect example would be the Chinese tournaments like MDL 6-chinese teams and 1 representative from each of the other regions.

Valve still has to approve your tournament, so I don't think that shit would fly, even more so because they scrapped the EU qualifier. I wonder if attending every single LAN is even viable, since odds are a good placement will do much more. However I predict we will see the crazy qualifier weeks of old, since every tournament has to run them, presumably for every tournament. Another thing: direct invites might very well be a thing of the past, since you want your qualifiers to be watched and teams like EG can't completely bet that a few good placements and a tons of ignored qualifiers will get them through, but that is up to the concrete implementation of the rules.

They might step in if its egregious but its very subjective its often been subject to debate who should have been invited to Valve events and for a n organizer to sell tickets they will need to ensure they have local favourites.

Its an interesting thought, major teams may not have the leverage to tell tournaments invite or GTFO when they need the points for a TI invite. I imagine the big teams are strategic with minors but attempt to attend every major (unless they are monthly...) but I still imagine 6-months in some top tier team (EG, OG, etc.) will suddenly realize they have half the points of a Team NP that attended every tournament.

I mean, it won't last long if points are handed out just for showing up and it outnumbers placing highly in major tournaments. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it'll take a year or so to work out the kinks but I think this is way better in the long run.

Those LD,Lumi, Merlini casts are awsome. I am watching LFY vs VG and they are shitting on Lich non stop and making stupid jokes. They just having fun and I really like it.

Now they are roleplaying the Lich lore.
